My dad special ordered a triple black 76 Cordoba, the Charger SE's brother, brand new. He couldn't find 1 that 'checked enough boxes' in the dealership's inventory in the entire Chicagoland area. He wanted leather. He wanted a/c, non tilt 3 spoke wheel, he wanted the electric rear defogger, 4 speaker am/fm but not power antenna, he wanted manual windows and locks,.. but most of all, he wanted to factory P code 400 non ELB with dual exhausts and hd suspension. So a $5400 based price car turned into a $7800.00 car by the time he was done with it. He also ordered the rare factory tach. The factory screwed 2 things up on the order, which I guess was fairly common in the 70s.. It did not have the 3.21 rear gear in it, but 2.71, and also, even though he ordered it with the dual sport outside remote mirrors, his had the smaller round chromed units on it instead, albeit they were both remote controlled. After waiting 4 months for the car, he settled for it. Despite his best efforts, he couldn't keep the rust monster out of it, and by late 88 the car was in very poor condition. The 400 and 727 non lock up trans were fine though, and in late 89 he sold it to a guy that just wanted it for the drivetrain, for $300.00... Nice to see an original example of the last of the Mopar Bs!

Growing up my mom got a Cordoba traded a '73 Charger SE with a 440 for that polished turd, basically the same car as that Charger, with a 360. It it was gutless and chugged gas, she got rid of it after year, it was the last domestic car she ever bought. I was young but apparently the 440 in the charger was a '69 440 six pack with a "race" cam and headers so my uncle claims. The old photo's confirm it was orange and had the six pack with headers. As to how it got into what would have been a year old car at the time, apparently it was a car dealers son's car in NC that got into trouble running from the law. The engine was from his first car that he totaled, a '69 Charger. I heard of crazier stories, but the photos suggest it could be some truth to it.

My parents bought a brand new 76 Charger SE after my dad totaled a 75 Coronet Brougham. It was silver with red velour interior, the paint started to peel within a few years. After my mom had an accident in the car in 1980 (it was repaired), early in 1981 they traded it in for a 79 Cordoba in light blue metallic, dark blue "Corinthian" leather and power everything but the antenna that ALSO started peeling a few years later. Chrysler didn't seem to be alone with the peeling metallic paint, used to see other brands in the day also having problems with metallic paint.

That's the best Cougar ever made. The Charger is sweet too. Love the powerful 360 motor. I could burn rubber with the one I had and got a whopping speeding ticket. It wasn't a Charger tho. It was an '89 Dodge extended van. Very fast with power to spare. Great engine 360, also the 318 was just as good

Looking at the engine of the Charger... I used to work at a Dodge dealer 1977-78. I remember the engine compartments being a lot more crowded. Now, I know that '75 was the first year of catalysts and unleaded fuel, but is it possible that US cars had more stringent emissions requirements than Canadian (or Mexican) models?
