So my tan wire is supposed to have 12v? I have nothing at the tan wire. Is my tan wire to the cpm shorted or open circuit?
@homemechanic46142 жыл бұрын
PCM voltage between terminal number 3 and 2 (middle which is ground) should be 5v. First disconnect the PCM connector from camshaft position sensor connector, then test it with ignition key ON. I don't remember which wire was tan but I think terminal 3 that is positive and middle is dark negative (ground) . It is not common that PCM wire disconnected.

Good video !!! Do you know if that sensor (cam s.) Will also not allow the fuel pump to work?
@homemechanic46142 жыл бұрын
No, as my knowledge the fuel pump and Cam sensor is completely different units. They are not sharing any circuit. If fuel pump not working first look for fuel injection system relay and fuses and circuit for battery voltage. Then check the fuel pump itself lastly ( because you need to remove gas tank).

I noticed that your Tach isn't working. Could possibly be a bad Crank Sensor?
@homemechanic46143 жыл бұрын
Yes you right , I didn't notice it. Both tachometer and speedometer on this 97 Dakota sometimes get stuck specially after long time (weeks) not drive it, and need to tap with finger on it to get work. I forgot to do it in this video. Problem was faulty camshaft position sensor as i got P0340 code. After replacing it with good one engine started working normal.

Mine is missing in cylinder 2. Changed everything but this pick up sensor. Hopefully that’s my issue

Would be nice if you showed where this part is located on the motor.

Behind of the throttle body , down. Rear of the engine. It is not in easy to reach place but it is possible to work on it. It is distributor like old 80s vehicles but computer controlled distributor that never need adjustment, but if this sensor fails engine will not start and you will get DTS code.

Is the good sensor on left or right?
@homemechanic4614 Жыл бұрын
Good sensor is the one on the left with the red plastic shield.

Hello, I have a Dodge Dakota 1998 2.5 L. It has been a complete nightmare trying to fix this same problem. Yesterday my truck engine turn off and left me in the middle of the road. This is like a cancer for this trucks. Is their a difference between the Camshaft Position Sensor and the Crank Shaft Position Sensor ? Which of them should I Change in my truck ? Your video has been a lot of help. Bogota, COLOMBIA. Thanks.
@homemechanic46143 жыл бұрын
Yes they are different in shape. the crankshaft position sensor is smaller piece located on down the engine on the beginning of the transmission case. If you got P0340 code then you should check camshaft position sensor wiring and itself as I showed in this video. If you have bad crankshaft position sensor, you should get P0320 code. I saw that camshaft position sensor go bad more often in these trucks.

@@homemechanic4614 do you think I have the same problem because my 93 Dodge Dakota Sport will crank one day and not the next
@bobpaulino47142 жыл бұрын
@@terryjackson9293 a crank/ no crank has more to do with neutral safety switch, ignition switch, starter relay, or starter. If it cranks but won't start then, depending on if it's a no spark situation it could be camshaft sensor/ pickup coil, crankshaft sensor, coil, etc.

Que falla pensabas, falta de chispa o de inyección?
@homemechanic46142 жыл бұрын
both ignition (spark) and injector were good, the problem was faulty cam shaft position sensor (also called distributor pickup coil) that PCM not detect any signal to distribute the power to the spark plugs.
@chavodel84312 жыл бұрын
Falta de chispa ⚡️
@IvanRamirez-yt5qp Жыл бұрын
No ay chispas en esta falla así se entiende no pasaba chispa alas bujías y pulso de inyecion si ay bomba de gasolina si ay pero chispa no cuando es el cam sensor

Where you getting a no bus signal where there milage is?
@homemechanic46143 жыл бұрын
No " no bus signal" . Engine pcm recognizes the all components of instrumental panel. Only P0340 code. As I heard "no bus signal" error message more popular on the later models (1998-2003)
