Thank you for this video. I just took my HL out. You gave me to courage and knowledge I needed to get it done. But I'm only half, or less complete.

Do you have a part number for the headliner you used. Mine is gray to. So many to choose from. Thx

Hello, unfortunately I don't have an exact number for the material I used. I honestly don't remember there ever being one and had to take a shot in the dark and hoped I got close. Here is the liner I used, it looks like they just call it Light Gray now. Double check your measurements before you order as different companies offer different sizing options even if they all say van, quad cab etc. I've used both Heads Up and Headliner Magic brand fabric both with good results. Hope that helps you out some. Thanks for watching! headlinermagic.net/products/lt-gray-headliner-ceiling-repair-fabric-material-for-dodge-dakota?variant=39430998392910

it looks very easy. but you should show the video of how you took the glass out. That's the hard part..
@ScanMan79 Жыл бұрын
Well you watch the video I do say that the windows seal is already broken loose and that's what I was redoing the window. Yes most newer vehicles require a special tool to make the job easy, but they are not strictly required.

Very impressive thank you. I'm about to tear out the headliner my 2008. Here's a note, it's a third brake light leaks, the gasket is not available separately. So I made one out of rubber, and stopped leaking.

Kinda disappointed but nice video, I am scraping a Dakota & want to take the back glass out but it’s glued in so we’ll I was hoping to learn a trick. Lol I took the headliner out of mine too it mostly takes time and patience with attention to detail anyone interested should go for it. Thanks for your time & it looks like you helped a lot of people. I’m off to search my problem.

Yeah the rear glass requires a special cord tool that used a cord (called zip line) that wraps around the outside of the window and them passes into the interior to what is basically a suction cup pulley that mounts to the glass and you use a ratchet to pull the cord around the pully and force it to cut the seal. VERY expensive, From what I've found $500 - $800 for the tool. Scrap yards around me wont even mess with them and you have to find a glass installer that will. The glass is hard to find too especially if it's heated and tinted, which makes it that much more of a shame. I've seen some use a long razor blade from the inside and get it done but it's a nightmare to do. No way to get it from the outside because you'll end up gouging and cutting the black plastic that is molded to the glass. Here's a link to the type of tool required. I'm not affiliated in any way. Just a quick ebay search there are a few different brands out there... hptps://www.ebay.com/itm/133154254539?epid=25036938888&hash=item1f009caecb:g:yQYAAOSwrg5gI8i4&mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&campid=5338147484&toolid=11800&mkevt=1 Good luck! @@ScanMan79 Thanks for answering & I’ve found the same results. I got the truck for the transmission & engine and was just wanting to get all I can off it. LOL I’ve taken the whole thing apart so far except the glass front & back. I’m more hopeful for the front it looks like you can make your own tool there (fingers crossed). I’m gonna try making my own for just the rope saw for the front they want $70! You are definitely the real deal thanks for sharing your knowledge.

So all need is a razer blade to take out the window?
@ScanMan793 жыл бұрын
Not exactly. It CAN be done with only a razor, but it's very difficult and near impossible to do without damaging the plastic molding around the window and/or the paint. They make a rope tool that cuts the urethane around the window without damaging the window or paint. It's very expensive. Just to name one so you can see what I'm referring to would be the WRD Spider S3. Not recommending this brand or anything just using as a reference. If this isn't something you've done before and can't afford the proper tools, I would highly recommend paying someone to do it. It will likely cost less to have someone do it than it will to buy the tool and glass. Mine was already coming apart so that's why I only needed to use a razor for my project. I hope that helps. Thanks for watching!

You replaced the headliner with a 3/16th thick headliner, why? I'm looking into replacing my headliner in my 2004 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab and the headliner it has is not 3/16ths thick and from the looks from your video yours wasn't either. Is there a thinner headliner that I could use that is closer to stock?
@ScanMan792 жыл бұрын
The 3/16" was as close as I could get to factory that was still a higher quality fabric. There are thinner options but I only found cheaper lower quality in those options that others said failed within a couple years. That said it looks dramatic because on mine the foam was all deteriorated and had no "sponginess" left in it. It's not something you really notice once it's installed and the tiny bit of extra thickness of the new foam also helps make the interior a little quieter as a bonus. It doesn't cause any issue with visors or hand holds etc. I didn't want to have to redo it again so I opted for a higher quality fabric. We still have this truck and it's holding up perfectly even with several 100+ degree days and no garage. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!

Is it possible to take the headliner out without taking out the back window?
@ScanMan796 жыл бұрын
Yes, you will just have to work with it to get it around the seats and out the door. Just be careful not to bend it any more than absolutely necessary as the backer board will lose its rigidity and possibly break. Just take your time and be careful and you should be fine. Thanks for watching!
@scottpace87946 жыл бұрын
Take out front seats takes 15 mins. Headliner comes right out rear door
@jimbennett18346 жыл бұрын
Did you have to remove any rubber around the doors?
@ScanMan796 жыл бұрын
No, all these were in good condition.
@blueboy75597 жыл бұрын
i think people keeping the window down it get to much air blowing arould makes that happen on headliner
@ScanMan797 жыл бұрын
Yeah I agree with that for older vehicles like this. Once that foam backing starts to deteriorate it doesn't take much to start breaking it loose. Once it starts there's no stopping it. Thanks for watching.
