This is a brief description of how to refurbish the parking brake actuator levers inside the rear wheel hub on the 2004 and similar Dodge Dakota.

I was hoping that mine would be that easy but with 02 it goes into the bottom of the drum. I made the mistake of using my e-break when fixing the gearshift to stop rolling off ramp now I got a nasty little squeak when driving slow coming to a stop.

Done that and replaced the pads and it still dosen't work is there a way to adjust them so they work? Also replaced the drums / rotors and the cables are working but E-breaks are not

I believe there’s an adjuster at the bottom of the drum area that will snug the pads out to meet the drum.

I’m sorry, I’m not sure. One way to see if they’re close is for you to research if both years take the same parts. You could use rockauto.com for that research or even go to your favorite parts store. If those years take the same parts then it should be the same process.

I got a 2000 dodge Dakota v6 3.9l 2wd rear brakes are drum. The parking brake has failed at DMV for 3 years in a row. The regular brakes work fine(or so i thought). I've applied regular brakes AND hit the gas a good bit and the truck does not move. :) But, the parking brake sucks balls. Last year I mashed the pkng brake down to floor and it held barely enough to pass. Yesterday I tested it and it failed worse than ever. I'm gonna take rear brake components apart and lube all properly. I'll let y'all know what happens and I may post some a vid of my experience.

@@SuperBondageslut I realized that while it seemed the regular brakes worked fine, dmv results have shown irregular braking at each tire. Whoever owned truck b4 me put the brake components at the rear brake together incorrectly. I fixed them and now they're exactly how my manual shows. What a difference!! improved parking brake, it doesnt move at all. :) And truck passes brake tests at dmv(it's commercial so it gets a FULL test there). I now do all my brake work! Lines, components, etc. I now trust me. thank to KZbin help.

I have a 94 dodge Dakota and my e-brake release was rigged up with bailing wire so I am replacing that and the e-brake system cause that was the sketchiest sh!t I have seen.

But does your parking brake cable go into the the back of your axle area like this does? This truck also has rear disc, but the parking brake here is inside the “hat” of the rotor.
