Dodge Dakota Rear Disc Brake Conversion Replacement

In this video we replace the rear brake calipers, rotors, and pads on the Dakota. I also painted them blue to match the front calipers! The truck originally came with drum brakes from the factory, but at some point in its life it got a disc brake conversion done to it! Definitely a nice performance upgrade!

I bought the conversion kit from SSBC, but it doesn't appear to be exactly like what you have. We have not been able to connect the parking brake cable, do you have pictures or video of that? TIA

Probably because you have the calipers switched. The bleeders should be above the brake lines. Try switching them around.

Did you ever figure out what was causing your new caliper to stick? I'm asking because I just installed this exact kit on my Dakota and one of them is stuck closed, while the other doesn't want to move. These are brand new, so I have no idea what's going on with them. I'm definitely no stranger to brakes and everything appears to be properly aligned and hooked up.

The caliper itself wasn’t sticking or hanging up. I found out that the tabs on the back side of the caliper were rubbing against the lip of the rotor. The friction was causing the heat. I used a small handheld belt sander to file down some of the caliper casting to provide enough clearance and it’s been fine ever since

You may want to change the brake hose it may have collapse I hade that happen to me good luck

I actually did replace that already off camera, it’s still hanging up for some reason. Gonna check the E-brake cable next and go from there.. also a chance it could be an axel bearing but not 100% sure.. thanks for watching!

I'd check all your wheel hub bearings. Could be the problem.

What make/model are the replacement rotors from?

I actually just ordered front rotors and used them on the rear, since it had the disc brake conversion done on it. The calipers don’t grip the entire rotor, but that’s how the ones I replaced were as well.. hope that helps. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for conversion info On the thunderbird part, but the fast forward doesn't help me because you don't give the details verbally or normal speed video. That's why you have low count follows. Most likely better for more experienced mechanics.

There is nothing safe about the way that block is put under the axle. Its only strong when placed with the hole up
