My 2001 explorer sport 2wd open diff with all terrains does amazing in light mud like this too. What size tires are on your explorer?

I’ve got an 02 Explorer sport lifted 3 inches all around with 32 inch all terrains. I’ve never gotten stuck anywhere. It handles bumps very well and it has enough power to take it where you want it. I love it. Matter of fact, me and some friends are going mud riding again tomorrow.

My 2002 is completely stock and surprised the shit out of me one day. We went camping and we went down a dirt road that was at least a mile long and it had a pretty steep hill. It rained pretty hard the day before and my Explorer made it up and down the road with no problems, and not to mention the hill had a deep crack in it filled with rocks. Ford are amazing.

Y'all got the same performance on 4 wheel but obviously the explorer beats the Dakota in 2 wheel because of better weight distribution. My Dakota has the v6 magnum and it does pretty much the same performance as this v8

When off roading, always choose the line with the least resistance. Going through a deep hole can get you stuck in a situation where going around the hole keeps you up high enough to stay level instead of climbing out of a deep hole. And you dont always know how deep a water filled hole will drop you. If you're resting on the frame than it was to deep and your wheels will simply spin over air while the weight of your truck is resting on the frame.

Awesome video!! I stumbled upon it when I searched for a 2003 For Explorer Sport video because I am getting one this weekend. Just like mudding/off roading and wanted to see how it did. I won't take mine off road or anything extreme like this. Anyways nice video man.

so the lesson here is that a limited slip does in fact help a lot off road, least for light duty stuff if not rock crawling or serious hardcore trail riding
@sirtubemaster
@sirtubemaster 8 жыл бұрын
+runeshark22 Actually, I recently rebuilt my clutch pack for my LSD. I did some research and used carbon fiber clutch pads and added one more to each side...this allows the LSD to lock up tighter and sooner. In certain conditions it has been all i needed to get over a specific obstacle when on some gnarly trails. Not a locker but does damn good! thanks for watching & taking time out to comment

sirtubemaster which differential did you use? that's for a ford 8.8 i assume? I just need more traction than my open diff allows
@sirtubemaster
@sirtubemaster 8 жыл бұрын
runeshark22 I have the original 8.8 LSD 3.73 geared differential. I used the Summit Racing carbon fiber clutch pack. I kept the two best of the older one and realigned the clutch to SfSfSfSf where the original was something like FsFssFssF or something similar. IT LOCKS up really well with this pattern.

Not trying to be rude but they aren't off roading.. I got an 03 Dakota on 35s and drive through stuff like this just to make it less clean. And the Dakota has a huge disadvantage against the explorer. Dakota has open diff, no weight over rear wheels along with more power equals less traction, and an A/T vs M/T tire.. I'd say the Dakota did awesome!!

@@sirtubemaster you're thinking of being offroad is true, unpaved and unmarked is considered "offroad" and considering the capability of both rigs it's a good little testing ground. Not saying anything bad about the video at all. It was fun to watch, just was saying it would have been better if they were equal in capabilities.

Jason Brandley They are great! solid and I amaze people all the time even Jeepers who laugh at me wheeling my rig are amazed at the capabilities. Pending your intentions for future you may want to think ahead about the rear-end. I have limited slip so if i want to lock her up i have to change it out to an open carrier. BUT i upgraded the clutch packs to a tighter pattern s-f-s-f-s-f verses traditional f-ss-f-ss-f and got amazing performance..locks up quicker and can stay in 2WD longer where others are in 4WD

***** just about every Explorer I've ever run into has a factory LSD rear. Both my 91 and 95 have one. it's rare that I see one that doesn't. e.g. factory towing package automatically added an LSD to the build sheet. the factory LSD is unstoppable if you rebuild the clutch pack with a couple extra discs.

wow that dakota sucks horribly compared to the explorer. You would think the v8 might have helped the dakota, but it sure didn't. maybe better tires would help both of you, but I think the explorer is still gonna kill that dakota

I would of thought same thing! I have better clearance in my X than his Dakota and I am more heavy in the back..my tires are NOT mud tires but aggressive all terrains from Tread Wright and I like them LOTS! @gobbly1337
@gobbly1337 9 жыл бұрын
Ford Mustang There's not much weight in the back of the Dakota, and I suspect that is making a big difference. If you watch the explorer it moves through a lot of that on momentum, the Dakota seems to crap out at the end. With some weight in back I think it would do better.
@sirtubemaster
@sirtubemaster 9 жыл бұрын
gobbly1337 While i agree that the weight in the back of the Dakota was an issue...i have to challenge you on the momentum comment. The ONLY spot i used a little momentum was 8:08 all else was slow speed and crawled through it and was barely using the gas pedal. This specific Dakota sucked balls at off road....no articulation and I out wheeled that Dakota in 2WD where he needed 4WD lol I have seen other Dakota's off road and they do very well.

lmfao what you going to courses with lil kids and power wheels for?its all about the driver and tires......ive won money ,S.U.VS and a lot of right to talk shit ......just by hearing ford drivers say............that truck aint making it through that!!!!!!!!half the time i only take the cash ,cause trouble starts if you actually take the vehicle.Ive also got a 2003 with a 4.7 into it........its a beast and its favorite thing to do is run around in wet plowed fields lol.I dont support ford cause they were one of five companies sued for their contributions to the nazi war effort,payments and awards to henry ford by hitler,and ford was success full is sueing the american s for bombing their three ford werke factories in belgium,france and germany........my grand father was killed in the war and its a good chance it was by a german soldier brought to the battlefield in a ford werke truck........ford was then told to build bombers or be considered enemy for his antisemitism and the news paper outlet he had to boast about it...............................ford is a fraud ,its shit,,,,always has been and always will be........get yourself a durango rt or srt

how is that proof ford is better then dodge...in all reality the Ford almost never did the same thing. ..mud hole dodge slows n almost stops then guns it ford slowly drives through THAT PROVES MOMENTUM IS KEY FOR N I T GETTING STUCK OR SLIGHTLY STUCK. .. also ford has more weight on rear axel then dodge so yeah more weight equals better traction throw a couple sandbags in the back of that Dodge Dakota and it would do better than the Ford Explorer did in 2wd ...plus ford explore not really explore much in those car like ride
