Thanks Blue Collar Garage for this very informative video. Soon I’ll do this job on my ‘12 Chrysler 200 Touring convertible. I’m going to use the Dorman upgrade kit and also will be installing the Baxter Performance adapter to convert to a Wix spin on filter. For those that are reading this the Baxter adapter is designed to prevent initial dry starts which occur because the canister filter area drains down within minutes and takes a few seconds for oil to get to the critical overhead cam area during starts.

Thanks, great video. Used it to change the oil cooler (due to leak) and spark plugs on 3.6ltr 2015 Dodge Journey/Fiat Freemont in Australia. Appreciated. Tip: Fuel injector clips were tricky to get off, need to use a small hooked spike to press it in from underneath to release the read locking clip. Patience and Torque wrench made this project successful. Took 10 hours total.

Thank you very much for the time and effort you put into this video. I have the same problem. I noticed recently my alternator went bad and I just changed it. I also noticed oil on top of the transmission on my dodge grand caravan, it's pretty much the same engine you have. The last time I changed the alternator I found a lot of dry oil on top of it but I didn't pay much attention to it. I think the oil cooler housing is busted and I'm ready to change it. Do you think this cooling housing is the reason the alternator keeps going bad? I really appreciate the video and I hope you can get back to me as soon as possible with your thoughts on this. Also what do you think about the oil cooling housing that's all aluminum instead of the plastic one?
@BLUECOLLARGARAGE Жыл бұрын
I have seen alternators go bad due to oil leaking on them and making them fail early. A lot of Hondas had this problem due to the vetc solenoid being mounted above the alternator and those gaskets were prone to failure soaking the alternator in oil. That could be the issue with yours as well. As far as the aluminum this is the second one I have installed with no issues also put one on my daughters 2016 Chrysler 300 which I did a video on as well. If you plan on keeping the vehicle I would do the aluminum upgrade but if you plan on getting rid of it the plastic one will work just fine.

@@chefkarimassaf268 if that’s the original belt and tensioner you may want to consider replacing them but just because it has a little squeak doesn’t mean it’s bad the squeak could also be the tensioner or idler pulley bearing. Really when you do these jobs you should be able to buy a plastic parts as a kit which would be great. Dorman are you listening. Like you buy rear drum brakes and can buy the kit with all new springs and such. You can spray wd 40 on those coil clips and injector parts and such helps taking them apart without breaking them. Just a little on each of them helps lube them so they come apart in hope you don't break that plastic clips.

Is the aluminum oil filter housing better than the plastic ones?
@BLUECOLLARGARAGE5 ай бұрын
Yes because the plastic one goes through so many heat and cool cycles the plastic starts to become weak over time. Plus with the plastic ones a lot of these lube shops end up out the oil filter cap on to tight and end up cracking the plastic housing causing leaks. Mopar hasn’t switched to the aluminum because it’s a good money maker for them very common issue on these engines.

@BLUECOLLARGARAGE Жыл бұрын
Are they just replacing it with the same plastic housing? Also who does your oil changes? The reason I ask is because most shops or quick lube places will over tighten the oil filter cap thus leading to cracking the housing. The other problem is when they install the new housing if the main oring isnt lubed up enough it can get caught up or pinched leading to a leak. It’s a very poor design by dodge especially where it’s mounted and how much heat and cool cycles it goes through being plastic. That is why I try to update it to the all aluminum housing.
