People tend to hate on KZbin mechanics. While there are a lot of bad ones out there, not all of them fall in that space; You definitely set yourself apart from that impression. I've watched, rewatched and wrenched while watching section by section each phase of removal/install. Although my replacement went to shit for reasons out of my control (i.e. stripped bolt holes from previous replacement job, oil/coolant flooded valley, rewired/sensor replacement, etc), this walk through was the only thing that kept me on track. I cant thank you enough

I checked the cooler 2 years ago. It did not leak at the time. I replaced the seals since I had them on hand. I just replaced the filter cap because one of the 4 tabs holding the bypassing valve was broken. The old cap is still available to function, but I like to replace it. I have been concerning the cooler failure. For a 8-year-old caravan, I am still not able to make a decision to pick the Mopar one or after market one with aluminum housing if the time comes to replace the cooler because the Mopar one is $225+tax CAD with sensors and Dorman will be over $300 CAD without sensors.

These video series for Chrysler 300 are gold!! I did myself the replacement and upgrade of the oil cooler, thermostat/coolant pipe and led headlights almost two weeks ago. I saw the oil cooler replacement video several times, the process looks more intimidating in video than in person. I took the opportunity to replace the coolant reseirvoir since the antifreeze was drained. One thing that happened to me is that the A/C did not work after finishing the work, I needed to replace the fuse 12 A/C clutch. My car is a Chrysler 300 2015, these videos were very helpful. I am planning to replace my coils and spark plugs in the next months. Thank you so much!!!

I’m going to be doing this job carefully myself on my ‘12 Chrysler 200 Touring convertible because I don’t want to take chances with someone else’s workmanship or pay the Chrysler stealership a huge amount of money that I can’t afford. Goddamn Chrysler for making this part out of plastic! For whoever reads this comment there is another improvement offered by Baxter Performance that converts the Pentastar engines to a spin on filter. This helps eliminate momentary dry starts by keeping oil available to the cam areas which over time can cause wear with each starting of this otherwise well designed engine.

Quick question, I did this last summer. If I recall, there was coolant in that valley, as well as oil. I'm chasing a p06de and Im trying to find a coolant leak. I know the coolant is leaking from the smell of coolant when Im running. Did you have the coolant pool at all?
@BLUECOLLARGARAGE10 ай бұрын
No I didn’t have any coolant pooling up. Did you check the thermostat housing and coolant pipe coming off that? Those are two common areas that leak. Can you take a flashlight and see if any coolant is pooling up under the intake? As for the p06de I believe that is an oil pressure issue. Does it have any running issues and how many miles are on it? Hoping it’s not an oil pump issue. I’m wanting if it’s an issue with the pressure sending unit and if the coolant smell has something to do with it to where the coolant corroded the oil pressure sending unit connector. Do you have any way of testing your oil pressure?
@DarkMessiah49910 ай бұрын
@@BLUECOLLARGARAGE 170k. I replaced the plastic thermostat housing with an aluminum one. I put dye in the cooling system and the only bright spot I saw was on the bolt coming up out of it. No evidence anywhere else beside the smell, coolant loss, and coolant temp going up towards 260. The reason I got here is I got the p06de code, and went ahead and just put it an oil cooler I had rather than just change the pressure sensor. It runs fine. But the check engine light was driving me insane (I'm weird like that. I was working thru a checklist for that code. Last July I got an oil change and the problem cleared up. I check the oil and yet the tech said I had been down more than a quart and a half, despite the dipstick always reading over filled. I guess I'll do an oil change and see if the code clears. I'm curious if there's an issue with checking the oil level. But excluding that, it's gonna be the pump itself, which includes the solenoid. I appreciate you taking all the time to answer. Oh, and other than the car's gauge, I don't have the means to verify the exact oil pressure.

Can that oil go dripping all the way down to the engine where the transmission is located ?
@BLUECOLLARGARAGE Жыл бұрын
Yes especially while parking on an incline like a driveway. The cooler is located in the valley of the engine and the oil slowly works its way towards the back of the engine leaking down the transmission bell housing making it look like the transmission is leaking.

Follow up question and concern I had a shop replace the oil filter housing last week, car ran fine for 30 miles, my wife parked the car, next day it wouldn’t start, turned over, never started. Heavy fuel odors. Any ideas? Thanks
@BLUECOLLARGARAGE Жыл бұрын
I’m wondering if they didn’t get the fuel line that feeds the injectors all the way clicked in. It’s in the video at 43:41 or I wonder if they reused the plenum gaskets on the lower intake instead of replacing with new. Is there anyway you can take off the engine cover and reach around the back of the intake and find that fuel line and just give it a pull to see if it comes loose?
@Cowboy340 Жыл бұрын
Thank you for the heads up. After reviewing your video again I contacted the shop and had the car towed to them. Yes, the fuel line clamp you mentioned to be aware of had not locked in place well enough therefore it was leaking badly. They discovered that to be the problem as well. Pick it up tomorrow. I really want to thank you for the time you take to communicate with your followers. How’s your daughters military career going in Alaska? Hopefully well. Does her Chrysler get her from A to B safely up there? Again, thank you Merry Christmas to you and your Family

@@Cowboy340 No problem I’m glad to hear they got it figured out. My daughter is doing good even though her 300 was AWD she sold it not to long ago and bought a Subaru lol. Same to you hope you have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Excellent job brother. You definitely give people the will to start the job. Wish I had you around for the rocker arm fix on this engine aka “ticking”.
@BLUECOLLARGARAGE Жыл бұрын
Luckily the ones I have worked on haven’t had the infamous rocker arm tick yet but I’m sure it’s just a matter of time and I’ll end up doing a video on one lol.

Do i really need to drain all that coolant for the oil filter housing?
@BLUECOLLARGARAGE9 ай бұрын
You don’t have to drain it all the way but you want to drain at least a 1/4 of it. If not it will make a pretty big mess when you pull the coolant line of the cooler.

I definitely over torqued a bolt on the housing unit and idk if I stripped it but we will see I hope I don’t leak

I noticed the black puddle the other day. I’m just wondering why the aluminum replacement part seems to be cheaper than the plastic one?
@BLUECOLLARGARAGE Жыл бұрын
Yeah not really sure why that is and I don’t know why Mopar hasn’t come out with a aluminum replacement. Probably so they can continue to make money off of this knowing the plastic one will eventually fail.

Did Chrysler fix the oil cooler design in the newer 2021+ models? Or do they still use plastic ?
@BLUECOLLARGARAGE10 ай бұрын
Pretty sure they still use plastic. I seriously think Chrysler does this on purpose just so you bring it back to the dealership to be repaired so they make more money and try to up sell you on other things at the same time.
@soiceyboy3310 ай бұрын
@@BLUECOLLARGARAGE that’s terrible. This is exactly why people think American cars are junk. They would rather keep their service department busy than improve their reputation and increase sales in the future smh

Hello, do you have to drain the oil also? When you change the filter housing?

Is it worth buying new sensors when doing this project or is it okay to use the existing ones? And if so, would that require any new programming with new sensors?
