This series really helped me on mine. Thank you for taking the time to make it!

Thanks for watching, did you press the bearing on the main shaft before or after the shaft went into the case?

@@groutaone Mine is a GM 4x4, so my main is slightly thinner and longer than the Dodge. The early GM also have centrifugal lockout hub made into 1-2 synchro that keeps you from downshifting to 2nd or 1st over set speeds. I dont know if that makes any difference, but I was able to install the bearing with mainshaft out. The countershaft had to have one installed and another once in the case like yours... A couple things on the chevy nv4500 I wish I had known about: the aftermarket one-piece countershaft is machined for a thicker snapring on 5th gear side, luckily the aftermarket small parts kit thats available had it! The aftermarket input shaft to bearing is a .003 interference press fit, making it extremely tight. Will have to cool one and heat the other. Also, my aftermarket mainshaft measured 1.525 where 5th gear rides, the new 5th gear is 1.520 making it a .005 interference fit. 500 degrees will only get you to 1.522 on the gear, still impossible to fit. Will have to hone .0025 out of the inner splines to even have a chance at be heat/pressed on. I suspect the aftermarket anticipated re-use of worn shaft or gear so they ran their tolerances on the tight side. When using both new, the tolerance stack up is to great...Or maybe the chineseum expands on the trip over (;

Rick Sanchez when installing the main shaft rear bearing did is it suppose to make the reverse gear not turn but on turn with the shaft I also have the Chevy NV4500

Thank you for posting this 3 part rebuild. I have a clanging noise in all gears when accelerating and decelerating. Now I suspect a loose end cap causing severe back lash. Either on the main or counter shaft. Also got an oil leak on the input shaft of the T case. Any thoughts? Is the oil leak maybe related to a loose end cap? 1995 Cummins.

When installing the main shaft rear bearing do you press it on all the way against the washer? And is the reverse gear suppose to spin when you press the bearing on or spin with the shaft?

So you're telling him in the comments that on the Dodge 4500 I should press the bearing on BEFORE I install the main shaft?
@groutaone6 жыл бұрын
I think if the bearing has to be removed to get the shaft out, then likely the bearing will have to go on after the shaft is in
