Kept getting a code thrown and would throw it into limp mode

Before changing this part try disconnecting the negative battery wire and turn the key ....this should reset the TCM (Transmission Control Module) ....which is a computer.....What do we do to our home computer when it has a problem? we re-boot it.....so try this first .....good luck......... P.S. this re-boot worked for me on a Dodge Dakota 2002 with the same problem....

I had already down that and pulled the fuse for wiping the memory. I have a video on it. the problem I had became more constant till I had to replace the part.

My overdrive light in my transmission temperature gauge comes on when I first start off I can go for my are about 5 miles or 10 then it just clicks off then it runs fine for a while to shut it off and started back up what should I do

I have an 03 Ram. Every few minutes it goes into limp mode. This has been going on for over a year and no mechanics have been able to figure it out. I found a TCM at a salvage yard so I'm going to try that. If not then I'll try replacing the shift solenoid. The strange thing is it seems to shift fine and I'm not getting any codes that are transmission related.

@@snipperman64 I replaced the TCM but it didn't change anything. Next month when its warmer outside I'll replace the shift solenoid, hopefully that will be the problem.

I’ve have studied this similar problem with mine and what I’ve found are two reasons it does this. First fluid has to be checked that it’s at the correct level “only when in neutral” in park it gives a false reading, secondly the trans cooler is possibly clogged. I haven’t done any of these things yet but I’m going to this this now

You can get replacements, Auto-zone is BSing you. Replacements Average from $169.99 to $299.99 (the $299.99 is from the DEALER), I just replaced one in a Durango yesterday. It was ordered from a Local Auto Parts Store Friday morning, delivered 8 am Monday, Price was $199.99! Auto Zone tried to tell us the Same thing, they tell everyone, "We'll rebuild it for you" then they swap your part with a Re-manned part from their warehouse, charge you THREE times what the part actually costs for "Rebuild" of your part. (which they didn't really rebuild they just sent out to their supplier to be rebuilt later on.) Next time they tell you that MARK your old part with a Dremel or a Scribe, before you give it to them, Guarantee you the part you receive won't have your Marks on it. (how do I Know? I am an A.S.E. Certified Master Tech, but I did work of Auto-Zone for a few months between jobs!)

I only paid like 200 for the part anyway isn't that the same as a used replacement one you mentioned? Or you saying 200 for a brand new one? Cuz I couldn't find it online otherwise for very cheap

Have found the TCM's on line for as little as $169.00 Depending on the Model. That's the wrong year and engine though this was for an 03 Hemi 5.7

Evil Plman Also, that is ONLY ONE site, there are several, Google it, What the Dealer told us at work is, the Big differences with the TCM's is V-8 or V-6, Rear Wheel Drive or 4WD. Look around, you can find them

My Ram shifts from first to second but when it goes to shift into third the engine revs and the transmission doesn't engage. Could this modual be the reason?

potentially, if your transmission is in good health then you might wanna look into the TCM

@@richporter6034 easy way to tell us to reset the tcm if that doesn’t work maybe try a filter change and then a flush if that doesn’t work

I am having the same issue!! I replaced valve body and shift solenoid and nothing worked. the very beginning when the problem happened it would do it intermittently and now it does it constantly.

@@badillo280 I figured out the TCM is located in the pcm on the front left, there’s some manuals that will tell you which one to disconnect. I bought a pcm online and it fixed my problem

Getting confuse, some call it the truck computer some call it the tramission control module. I search but nowhere it's say where the location of it. My van can't shift into 2 but it does once in a while.

I believe some years put the TMC inside of the PMC. Mine is an 03 and they are seprate.

Thanks,The ford 1993 econoline weird. I brought car cleaner and clean up the tran and clean inside the connection as someone told me a good possibility. Still but had it shifting ok for 2 days but without even stopping I've lost it again yesterday, sensor or chip LOL. If anybody need a ucu don't buy from flagship one. They are giving me a hard time to replace one that didn't work ,didn't start. But happy to know now, it not a bad tran. Chip or sensor

Check for corrosion at the TCM and PCM if not then possibly one of the control modules is bad. I replaced my TCM on mine and it had about 170k and after that it was perfectly fine. Never had any other issues come up before I sold it.
