This is a video of my test of the remote start on my 2009 Dodge Ram 1500.. After hours of troubleshooting it comes down to this.

My husband’s fob was going nuts... starting randomly, locking, unlocking, honking horn, etc. This was a quick, easy fix for the problem and saved us lots of money!!! Thank you!!!

Thanks for info. I luckily didn't have to go to replacement (yet). After disassembly I cleaned gold contacts with alcohol, re-set the contact discs in the rubber section (no glue), carefully set the circuit board assembly over the rubber base, pressed together, inserted new 2032 battery, and so far it is operating as it should. As you mentioned there are little nubs in the rubber portion, and they appear to be all that is needed to keep the contact discs in their proper position.

It is an ongoing problem with Dodge Ram . They wanted $200.00 + to replace a wire for my headlight . I bought the wire an replaced the wire in 30 min. in my yard ,I am not a mechanic by trade. They told me it would take 2 hours because the grill had to come off.. My key is another problem the service dept at Chrysler took the key apart an did not show me how the battery was opened up. I now have it opened an will go an buy a battery today . An Not from Dodge. I thank you all for your videos what a great help .

WOW! saved me a ton of money and headache...thanks. You don't have to order new Fob's though. I cut a tiny piece of pencil eraser about 1mm x1mm x1mm and placed it in the hole where the contact is to give it better contact. If you make it too big it will activate the button without touching it, keep cutting it down until it doesn't automaticallly start. Worked 1st try after the size was right.

I have a 2012 and it was getting to the point where it was hard to unlock my doors with the key fob button. This was the only function that was affected . When opening up the remote I was able to see gold tabs on the circuit board that make a connection when you press the button on the... back side of the rubber boot there are metal disc that touch on to the goal tabs on the circuit board. All I had to do was use a little Brasso with a paper towel and gently wipe the gold tabs. Apparently they was slightly corroded or had some type of crud on them. Now they are clean and shiny. Now it functions like new.

Hi, this is gold for me, thanks for te video. something similar happens to me, but when I open the remote to clean the connectors, they move, I mean they get out of position, is this normal, aren't they fixed? only the two rubber strips that go on each side of the connectors retain them?
@ak4710914 жыл бұрын
If you use soap and water and steel wool you can clean the connector who connect to the motherboard and they will work again does what I use when mine stop doing contact and it works perfect

Is the piece you're using to contact the two copper areas a type of terminal spade? I can't get my fob to do this; however, it is showing power to the circuit board with a multimeter.
@mybobbleheads6 жыл бұрын
Yes it is. you can use any piece of metal to lay across the center and outer rings so as to make contact (complete the circuit) . You may have an open circuit elsewhere in your remote or the chip may be fried and then it will not work.
@enew252__6 жыл бұрын
When you're referring to the chip, are you meaning the transmitter that you talk about in your 4th video? Also, thank you for the timely reply, really trying to sort this out on this Saturday. I have a replacement rubber cover, on its way as well.
@mybobbleheads6 жыл бұрын
Yes, the transmitter is the chip that I am referring to. As you can see in my painful attempt to do it on a budget, the earlier attempts were short lived (1-2 months each) due to the transmitter not working well (transmitting signals) anymore. I am still using the remote from video 4 and other than a couple recent cold weather issues it has been flawless for 8 months

Did your new Fobik come with a new chip or dealer?
@mybobbleheads6 жыл бұрын
this is the one I ordered in video 4 and it came with chip, complete but it will still need programming from dealer, takes about 1/2 hour www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00CUL4V2A/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I tested my circuit board the way you did with a metal lead, and I got zero response; even with a new battery.
@mybobbleheads2 жыл бұрын
that's too bad. I am not sure how to help you at this stage. Do you have control of anything with your fob? Can you lock and unlock?
@rbshort1512 жыл бұрын
Use volt meter to measure at the contact button if nothing check resistance from battery to battery holder sometimes you have to bend the battery contacts so they dig in the battery . Mine is still acting up that's the stuff I tried . I'm beginning to think it's a intermittent signal .
