Oh man I miss old vln, just look how many different cars were participating back then. nowadays the is not even half as much variety in field. This is kinda sad and one reason why I slowly start to dislike gt3, because everywhere I look there are gt3s and gt4, in every damn endurance series. To all you porsche fan boys. What the porsche was doing is called blocking. Its actually a move than can get yoy deducted points for aggressive driving. You must allow the faster car to go ahead in order to avoid accidents. At 27:24 you see a perfect example of this where the porsche was overtaken and should of fallen back but instead pushed and forced them both off grid. Thats an aggressive manuever that could of cost them both because of a stupid decision on the porsches part. Sorry guys. You need to watch more racing if yoy dont understand this. The viper was dominant in and out of the turns and the porsches knew it. You even watch the viper give up position to a audi v10 before that near accident. Its called goooood sportsmanship people. Not good defensive driving on the porsche part. It was dumb driving. And aggressive.

Were they (porsche 714 and viper) really direct oponent in this race? I'm not so sure. Somehow viper start at back of grid, but you can easily see that it is much faster. Other cars just let him pass, becouse they all knew that viper would pass them soon on later and fighting is pointless. 714 Porsche driver didn't. He defend hard and causing viper lost a lot of time behind him with no reason. Finally Viper passed that porsche like all other and go ahead - so defending didn't make any sense for porsche driver. Maybe that was racing for leading the race, don't know. If yes, i can understand why porsche was so much agressive. For me it looks like there are other cars in front and porsche driver was just arrogant and selfish, dind't care about viper. Do you know, what is the name of porsche driver? Also i think viper's driver could do a little better driving. He should make more space for himself, attack in the middle of the corner, maybe even make turn with late apex, make perfect corner exit with best possible speed and catch porsche just when straight begins. Unfortunately in corners he stays too far or just behind porsche's bumper and his exit speed was to slow, so he can't catch porsche on the straight.

I don't have a Porsche and I don't know about reputation, this kind of judgement is irrelevant. however, 714 is doing an amazing job, obviously the best Porsche in the video. We can see that he is playing limits to try upset the Viper, it works. The viper takes a lot of wrong decision in order to pass him. The porsche has also been helped a lot by incoming traffic that was blocking path for Viper. Great drive 714 as well as Vipy boy

End of the day it is a race, the reason he was so hard to pass, and the couple times the viper did pass he got back in front right away is because he is a good driver, not because he is faster. And since its a race, you dont get first by letting everyone pass you thats faster, if that was the case the same car would win everytime and races would be very boring to watch. This is one of the few drivers who actually gave the viper a challenge so my hats out to him

@@todd3570 like the viper driver knew where he would be at every part. He knew when to back off because the Porsche driver was following the race line. He wasn't doing anything to purposely cause a accident. While I think after a couple min where the guys still on his ass and everytime traffic causes him to fall behind then he's instantly caught up again ya you should let him pass and if your faster then you pass him again, like the r8 for example, but also, not sure on the time stamp, but at a certain point there's 4 of them all head to head, like a couple feet apart blowing through corners no one wanting to let anyone pass, is the best part of this video. Would of been such a rush and for me the true fun in racing.. just watching it put a smile on my face must of been fun for the drivers. Hold on I will find the time stamp

Wow! I didn't know that these Vipers could perform like this. Who ever is driving this car is good! Man that Porsche put up one hell of a fight. The Porsche was a lot better on the long straight against the Viper then I expected. I always tell my friends "Big engines only have a advantage on the start and on a slow roll. Or medium speed roll. This race had me on the edge of my seat. Them R8's didn't do as well as I thought. Or are those R10's?

big engine does not automatically make a driver fast. A real race car driver late on the brakes, early on the throttle and quick in the curves would have not allowed the average Cup Carrera with at least over a 100 HP lesser power playing with him. How was the R8 passing him on a hairpin where it's not easy to overtake....and somebody should explain what slipstream means on a racetrack to this Sunday driver!!!

Dan Reidy this is the part of racing the casual and intermediate fan doesn’t get. Cars like Viper, Vette have a natural advantage as race cars against most other Marques because of engine size and even tire size. If they left the big engines cars unrestricted it would wipe the floor with the competition. That’s why racing santioning organizations come up with rules and restrictions to make the racing as fair as possible. Case in point, the street Viper is much more powerful than this viper and would destroy the race Viper on any straightaway because it’s heavily restricted on the air inlet. So it cannot make full power. It’s most likely tire size restricted as well as rpm restricted. You can see it still makes good torque down low in low to mid acceleration. If that restricted was not there, this would not be a race. The Porsche’s and bimmers are restricted too but not as heavily. Good race. Shocked me to see them allow the Viper enough freedom to eat.

Its apparently obvious that there are a lot of Viper haters. I'm not a big fan of Viper. You can see what I drive in my avatar. I have a 1987 Porsche 911. But it looks like the Viper won the race. And you can't argue about a piece of equipment that gets the job done. The Porsche and the Viper were evenly matched. That viper could not catch him on the long straight. But the Porsche couldn't pull away too much. It did seem like it had just a little bit more gear at the top. If the Viper had one more gear. It would of had a advantage on the long straight. Awesome driving to both of these guys. Great race!

Every race car has a rev-limiter or it will blow the motor up. My point is the Viper could have probably gone faster if he had a better set up i.e., less down force which creates drag and taller gearing -- it's a trade off so high down force gets you through the corners faster but slows you down on the straights...

Maybe this setup was fast enough for qualy, but race is another story? You need to pass other cars and that is always easier to do on the straight. Also we don't know nothing about stability of that with lower downforce setup, sometimes it could be little dangerous or risky.

Disagree, the dodge is very poor in the corners and this circuit has many of them, they had to compromise top end speed for the corners. They test many set ups in the practice sessions and then go with the best one for the race. You just watched one clip and produce an opinion from nothing. Whereas, the team of engineers come up with the perfect set up, not through opinion but through hours of practising and years of racing on this circuit.

Really nice ride! Hell of a fight against the Frikadelli Porsche. And even if he looks ridiculously fast in this video compared to the others: this wasn't the top cars he was fighting with. Qualifying place 14 with a gap of 17 seconds to top Porsche. Starting from pitlane and finishing 9th overall is a very good result though.

I know nobody cares, but as German who owns a Gen. 4 Viper and worked as engine dyno operator in the development I just HAVE to correct most of you narrow minded people: Yes, German engines are way more (technologically) advanced than Americans but that doesn't mean they have to be better in all aspects ... When it comes to racing there are two ways to go: high RPM (making horsepower with short gears and high revs) or torque (huge displacement, long gears) - the result is very similar and the physics at play, too! There is a nice comparison of NASCAR engines versus F1 engines - the material and know-how isn't that different ... 'oldschool V8 OHV-enginges' can be as high-end (speaking of forces and rotating masses) as a bespoken 10k+ RPM V12-engines. The Viper is an hommage to the Cobra and is pure oldschool (steel frame, double wishbone suspension, front-mid mounted engine, no electronics but anti-lock brakes and manual), but so is Porsche (rear engine, high revving flat six, lightweight) - please respect both of those worlds! He loved the whole concept of lightweight and turbocharged rear mounted engines with low center of gravity and so on. We had so many good humored discussions and shared deep respect for each others mindset - there simply were to different ways but one common goal ... Don't be a dumb fanboy without knowledge, but be aware of your 'enemy' and respect him - at the end he's just like you :-)
