ohtani’s homer last night made me cry …because I knew we had a chance to win that game…it was the critical turning point to give us hope …& there is nothing greater than just a bit of hope in this universe

I hope some people will take some solace in the fact that despite the fact the bullpen was used quite a bit for the Dodgers, the Padre's bullpen not only has had less rest this week, but also were used just as much. And they have less depth. So it's not like they came out of this any better, and their pitching also showed cracks. Considering the final score, you can objectively say they showed more signs of wear.

Great win (heart palpitations notwithstanding)! btw, the RISP might not have been good, but the glass-half-full perspective is it was better than having no RISP.

Compare it to the other team, and you might feel better about it. Game is hard, bullpens are both good.

The 3 in 4 win rate in 5 game series for who wins game 1 isn’t so much about game 1 as it is teams who already have momentum which carries into game 1. We have this though, thankfully, putting us more likely into the 3 winners category than the 1 loser. The most notable difference in this game was that the last 2 years the team was hanging its heads all game, especially after seeing a bad start. We got the bad start again but the heads were held high, led by Shohei, and this stuff is contagious both ways. MVP is often given to the best player, not the most valuable necessarily, but Shohei is both.

Lets not forget we won Game 1 two years ago vs those guys too only to lose the next 3 games. Can not let up one bit.

@@jackhammer891 Do you really think anyone let's us forget? Different feeling that game too. I saw that win as a trap win in 22. They scored and then the offense disappeared that whole game and the rest of the series.

Don’t get your hopes up so much Jeff in 2022 the Dodgers also won the first NLDS game against the Padres and looked lousy the rest of the series. Don’t forget Darvish has a 1.7 era against the Dodgers or somewhere around those numbers. Darvish is a Dodgers killer -let’s not forget. Then Michael King 👀😱
@ryanc98763 ай бұрын
@@bench-clearingbrawl7737 This game was very different from the G1 of the 22 NLDS. Because after they scored, they looked completely flat in that win. They kept threatening last night. Like the G1 win of 22 left me with an uncomfortable feeling despite the win. This didn't feel that way at all. And Darvish is barely back from the IL. So if you're a doomer-fan, don't start quitting yet. If you're not a Dodger fan, well then good luck trying that scare tactic elsewhere.
@bench-clearingbrawl77373 ай бұрын
Darvish didn’t just comeback from the IL he came back from administrative leave. There’s nothing wrong with his arm. He’s a Dodgers killer don’t forget that. Second I’m not a boomer doomer fan -I’m a couch baseball analyst first and a Dodger fan second

@@bench-clearingbrawl7737 I don't forget that he's been good. I don't forget that he's also struggled. I don't think anyone is thinking this will be easy, so I don't get the point in trying to feed the worrywarts.

Darvish by the way, has an ERA of over 5 over his last 7 starts. The goal here is to get him for at least 3 in 5 and to have Jack giver up less than this, then we’ll duel with their pen again with a lead.
@bench-clearingbrawl77373 ай бұрын
Darvish has a ERA of like almost 4 against the league -but against the Dodgers he has it at around 1.75. He’s basically a Dodger killer.

I did see a Bed Dave move though, the call at the plate where Danny waived off the challenge but somehow got overruled. This was bizarre actually and while you do get two challenges we should not be throwing them away when the phone call comes back as a no like this.

1 for 8 with RISP but that 1 was a 3 run homer. This stat isn’t as meaningful as people think. It’s more about how many opportunities you have with runners on base, but the only thing that really counts is the number of runs.
@jrm22543 ай бұрын
Ya hopefully the lineup can do a better job of moving runners over & passing the baton.
@ryanc98763 ай бұрын
@@jrm2254 More runs is always better. So yes, better hitting in RISP will be better. But as long as they get the runs across, doesn't matter if they sac or score on errors or wild pitches or pass balls or whatever non-hitting method it is. A run is a run, and a win is a win.
@a.j.carisse4393 ай бұрын
I’m not too worried about how many innings we get from Jack in spite of the bullpen usage today, this is more a thing in the regular season sand you’re worried a lot more about quality over quantity. We need Jack to pitch well, period, and with the off day coming up the pen will be fine regardless. I don’t want to see Kopech pitching with the game on the line right now until he can show us he can be relied on more than what we just saw. He was simply awful and the last outing is the most meaningful. I’d feel more comfortable with Henriquez in these spots after seeing this mess. Hiuge game tomorrow, we win and we’re only 1 wi away, we don’t and we have to win 2 of 3 with 2 of them on the road and not being in a good spot at all for game 5 if is needed. We need to light up Darvish and if we can do that we’re in good shape.
@a.j.carisse4393 ай бұрын
I don’t think it was all that bad of a move leaving Trienen in to close the game, sure his pitch count was uncomfortably high but this is where you need to factor in experience and confidence. Sure, we needed to hold oiur breath but it worked out. Inn order to qualify as Bad Dave it has to be a bad move, not one you could make a decent argument for.
@a.j.carisse4393 ай бұрын
Prior to the game we saw the 4 talking heads predict the series winner, and only Dontrelle picked the Dodgers and they said that’s only because he worke for them. This is and will br, by all accounts, a close matchup, and the surprising thing was just how these people and other media commentators are so in favor of the Padres. I heard references to the Padres being the best team in MLB the second half, and this at least doesn’t look at the whole season as these fools tend to do, but half a season ago is still too far out to be meaningful. In the final stretch, the only part that matters, both teams have been close, with the Dodgers actually being a tad better and especially in our taking that last series from them. The most notable this is how much better the Dodgters’ offense has been over the last while, averaging about 6 runs a game, 2 runs against game better than the Padres over the last month. Dodger fans know how good the offense has been lately, and it should not be a surprise that our offense was 2 runs better than theirs today as well. Good pitching beats good hitting, but great hitting like the team has been doing can beat good pitching, Cease is one of the best in the game and we saw what happened to him. Throughout this time this has been the trend more often than not, our getting to good pitching like this. This is still a close matchup though but the biggest difference between this year and the last 2 is we’re hitting the cover off the ball. We also have Ohtani. I’m feeling good this time!

Playoff series aren’t so hard to figure out if you are looking at the right stuff. Take the other DS series. The Mets have been the better team lately and the Phillies are only .500 over the last month with a 5 ERA. Advantage Mets. The Dodgers may end up being the first and only bye team to win a series as I don’t see the Phillies doing it. Here’s hoping. I’d take the Mets in AA 7 game series any time.
