I like Teo, but he didn't really take a pay cut last year. The Dodgers actually paid above market value to sign him for 1 year. He ended up outperforming that contract this year, but he is 32yo and a negative defender. If the Dodgers sign Teo for his current value for 3 or 4 years, I don't think it will end well. We already have the best hitter in the game at DH. Lets trade for Crochet and Robert, convince Roki to come to the champs, and we'll still have the money to get an elite ace. I think that's the dream scenario for me.

I saw both the Gibby and Freeman homeruns. Pros for Freeman (that differ from Gibson): 1) It was a grandslam. 2) It was on the 1st pitch of the at bat. Pros for Gibson (that differ from Freeman): 1) A homerun was needed for the win/ Freeman only needed a single to knock in two so he didn't have the pressure of needing a homerun to go ahead. 2) Gibson had 2 bad legs and hadn't played prior to that at bat or after that at bat in the series. 3) The count went to the iconic 3 balls/ 2 strikes. The at bat itself was iconic beyond the end result. He took a little walk away from the plate when it was 3 and 2 and said to himself "backdoor slider" because a scout had told him that was the go to pitch that Eckersley used to put someone away in a situation where an out was needed. 4) Eckersley was the scariest closer out there. Nestor Cortes isn't even a closer or nearly as good of a pitcher. 5) The Dodgers were huge underdogs against the Oakland A's and that win made them believe they could beat them. The Dodgers were favored against the Yankees. To me it goes to Gibson but it doesn't have anything to do with the two balls hit. Freeman did all he could do and the outcome was perfect but the circumstances of being the underdog, facing the toughest closer, having 2 bad legs, needing the homerun to take the lead, the 3 balls and 2 strikes count, and how scouting came into play for Gibson to be sitting on that nasty backdoor slider makes the Gibby homerun more iconic IMO.

If you’re playing moneyball, adding Soto makes sense. I don’t know if he really fits in our dugout but I love watching this guy play, he stares down pitchers like he’s playing a century ago and it’s just fun. If Soto shocks the world and signs a mostly deferred contract, the Dodgers could sign Adames and Hernandez. They could have a line up of: Betts, Soto, Ohtani, Freeman, Hernandez, Adames, Muncy, Smith and Edmans. They could shuffle based on who is pitching against them. Imagine the pitches that Muncy, Smith and Edman will see at the bottom of the order. They would be able to use Dalton Rushing and Keke' Hernandez to pinch hit and give quality off days to their stars and keep them fresh for the playoffs. Depending on how well Smith and Muncy play, the Dodgers could have a complete infield and battery at the all star game.

If Soto were to sign a mostly deferred contract, he'd be beloved in L.A. That would allow them to sign Hernandez and maybe Adames as well. You'd have Will Smith and Tommy Edmans as your 8th and ninth hitters. Now, imagine Dalton Rushing as your back up catcher, right field platooner, pinch hitter and fill-in DH. Add that to Ohtani as both a front line starter and a full time DH. Oh, and Dustin May as a starting pitcher skills player as your closer.

I honestly have to shake my head about all the anti-Soto rants. A few short years ago every Dodger fan I know, was hoping he would come to LA, when Trea Turner abd Max came here. He goes to two teams, the Padres, who we despise, the Yankees, who Dodgers fans don't like and Sito is suddenly a cancer. Freddie, Mookie and Teo are all past 30, so if they can get him for a contract they can live with, I can certainly live with it. If they get Roki for a couple cheap years, sign Teo and Soto. Juan Soto is a phenomenal player, the man is a special talent but playing for a pay day and not loyalty is unfair to an organization. I believe that the dodgers should focus on Teoscar, the man played spectacular and helped the dodgers win a World Series title.
