Welcome to my hometown. I wondered how you got lost on that gravel road, until you said you were on a loop trail. It’s a good thing you missed the other four loops branching off the Sheltowee through that section 😁 And I haven’t hiked the Sheltowee south of Cave Run in 15-20 years because of the mud.

Just hiked the first 108 or so miles last year down to Heidelberg. Filmed them for my KZbin channel. Enjoyed seeming some the same scenery I'd hiked before. I'd love it if you could give me some pointers on what I may have done good, bad, or ugly with my filming. Thanks.

Were you using the trekking pole when you slipped in mud?
@JupiterHikes5 жыл бұрын
Yea, it came outa nowhere! Sneakily hiding under the thinnest veil of dead leaves, lay the mud, and soon to be me as well.

@@JupiterHikes WTF People slip and fall using trekking crutches all the time--maybe because they were paying attention to where their crutches were rather than their feet. I always carry ONE. Use is less the 1% of the time. Most times, take it out and try to twill it like a majorette baton.

Hey Jupiter, I don’t think I ever caught your reply but what did you not like about your shoes?
@JupiterHikes5 жыл бұрын
Hey sorry I thought I did respond! Somewhere there was a big thread about shoes. So here's the deal. Shoes are probably the most important thing in hiking right? Yet they are complicated, highly personal, and wildly misunderstood. So lately I've been on a mission to learn more, and try more instead of being complacent or just going with the heard. These shoes, Altra shoes, are basically founded on and their biggest selling point being that they are wide. or at least that's what I have heard for years. "They're wide, you walk more naturally, and your toes splay properly preventing all sorts of problems." These shoes are not very wide, and feel very tight on the sides squishing my feet and toes. Unlike my last shoes which are extremely wide and comfortable, just extremely minimal. Even trying 2 sizes up, they still weren't wide enough. So anything else aside that's why I wouldn't buy this specific model again. But more personally I felt that even though they have a larger stack height than what I've been using it didn't feel like that. Maybe materials used idk. For the future I'll keep looking, but one thing, I will continue training in very minimal shoes but am transitioning to a larger stack for bigger hikes.
