17:00 That flag can sometimes be quite contentious tbh "The red hand of Ulster" - "The Red Hand of Ulster (Irish: Lámh Dhearg Uladh) is a symbol used in heraldry to denote the Irish province of Ulster in particular", also : The Red Hand of Ulster is the official seal of the O'Neill family. It is believed to originate from a mythical tale wherein two chieftains were racing across a stretch of water in a bid to be the first to reach the land and claim it as his own. Realising his foe would touch the land first, one chieftain cut off his hand and threw it onto the shore, thereby claiming the land before his adversary reached it. The Red Hand is one of the only emblems in Northern Ireland used by both communities in Northern Ireland although it is more associated with the Protestant community. Catholics see it as representing the nine counties of Ulster while Protestants see it as representing the six counties of Northern Ireland. The Red Hand of Ulster appears on many murals and flags.

(UK) KEEP CLEAR Would, if used in the USA, be written: CLEAR KEEP Thankfully for Ethan & Angela, very few messages are painted on British roads - and only a tiny fraction use more than one line of text. This is one of the strangest things I found driving in the USA - so much text to have to read everywhere, not just painted on the road, but also on signs where in Europe we would replace most or all of that text with one symbol.

I've seen a lot US traffic stops, and UK and US police are totally different on traffic stops. US police seem to think they're deep in enemy territory in the middle of a warzone about to get killed. UK police are pretty chilled in comparison, and being a tourist will benefit you. 7:36 is a (yellow) box junction, do not enter unless the exit is clear (or will obviously be clear by the time you get to the other side). If you're turning right, you can stop in a box junction if you're prevented from turning right due to oncoming traffic because once their light turns red you'll have time to turn before the other directions lights turn green... It's basically an element of road design to stop people flooding through the lights and then jamming up the junction. They're painted in yellow paint so it stands out from the white road markings. In general, everyone forgets how to drive or what road markings/signs mean in car parks. They're looking for a space, looking for something they just bought, raging about the poor service, or just doing something other than focusing on driving.

When turning right on a junction, once you are on the junction you still have right of way even if the lights turn green for traffic coming the other way, the rule is the green light does not mean go but procede if it is safe to do so.
@dontaskme70042 жыл бұрын
@@peterbrown1012 Although the vast majority of people just think "but my light is green" which leads to problems. Just like "my sign says I have priority" even when all there is on the other side of the width restriction is a queue of cars back to the width restriction, so now by taking the priority they're stopped in the middle of the restriction... Some people are in such a rush to be stopped on the spot with nowhere to go 20 feet further forward rather than be stopped on the spot with nowhere to go 20 feet further back just so they can feel closer to where they want to be or to claim some sense of entitlement. A simple rule I got from my grand dad is "allow the vehicle ahead to complete it's maneuver before attempting yours" which seems to solve most problems, but not enough drivers apply it.

It does not matter if it's a box junction with yellow paint. It's a traffic offence to enter any junction if your exit is not clear. They but boxes on the main junctions with high traffic but it's the same law for all junctions. You must not enter unless your exit is clear. Blocking the flow of traffic is an offence no matter what is painted on the road.

@@Cobalt-Jester But no one pays attention (even police and councils) unless it's a marked box junction (where you get a fine)... The yellow checkered crossing is something most Brits dont fully understand It means you cannot enter the yellow box unless you know you can exist it. Eg.. if the traffic the other side of the crossing is jammed..you cannot enter the box even if your light is green. You have to wait for traffic ahead to move so you can get across without jamming the intersection. Incase the lights change and then you are blockibf the traffic lanes going cross perpendicular. There is one exception...if you are turning right (across traffic). Then you can enter the yellow box (whilst indicting right) and wait for an opening in on-coming traffic to make your right turn safely. But it basically means 'do NOT jam up this intersection'

The first time I drove one and came to a stop at a traffic, I put it in neutral, pulled the handbrake and the engine turned off! Very confusing. When I took my driving test, when it was much more simple. Today you have to pass a written theory test, hazard perception and practical parts. By the way, I don't know if you have checked at all, but in June in the UK, because of the latitude, it is light about 17-18 hours a day (and longer in Scotland), many visitors are shocked how light it is in the evenings here. @ around 8:08, that's in Huthwaite, been down that road many times on my way to the shooting range I go to. Drivers around there are as you say "Crazy" and I have had situations where I have had random drivers cut me up and break check me for no good reason. Thankfully, Break Checking is now a specific offence in the Highway code, which incidentally is MANDATORY, it is not optional like many UK drivers seem to think and treat it only as guidance. The clue is in the wording, "You Must" and "You Must Not" are used often and the highway code is backed up with the various laws like the Road Traffic Act and the Highways Acts. Note that new changes of late, pedestrians crossing a junction have priority, crossing a road no priority, many people misunderstood the new changes to literally mean that they can safely step out in to the road with no consequences when the reality is that its a very specific use, a junction is a road that feeds off a main A or B class road on to a C or unclassified road. So when turning off a main road on to a side road, be ware that anyone wanting to cross, you have to stop and give way. If you get rear ended, its a no fault claim in insurance terms as you are not legally at fault if another driver behind you fails to pay attention and they are at fault but in many cases, they will verbally attack you on who is at fault. Been in that situation where I got hit by a driver trying to force themselves on to the main road when traffic came to a stand still and I got hit, they tried to blame me for something that they did. So any hire car you have should come with dash cam and rear camera. When traveling, avoid the M6 Toll, M25 also has a toll bridge if venturing around the UK and finally, never assume that because a petrol station (gas station) exists that it has the fuel, some rural garages run out, so filling up at petrol stations when you are going off the beaten track is advisable and forget the main motorway service stations, traveling 3 or 4 miles off the motorway towards a major town will bring you to cheaper fuel, closer to town you get the cheaper it will be. If you have the budget and option, go hybrid.

Hi. The yellow lines are a “box junction”. It means you must not enter it unless your exit is clear (or you’re turning right) - see the Highway Code, Rule 174 :)

Yellow box with the checkered lines, don't enter unless your exit is clear. The only time you can stop in a Yellow box is if you are turning right.

American drivers are actually mental, they seem to all value haste over anything else. My wife and I drove from OH to TX and I thought I was going to die many times. She's American though, she didn't flinch at all.

In Australia, motorcycles can only lane filter to the front of the queue when approaching a red light but not on the outside and not just generally riding on a road.

The yellow cross hatching is at junctions and you only enter if you can exit, not meant to stop in the box . Helps to keep the junction clear.

I'm not sure if it's the same in Britain but in my country you have to get your car checked once a year in order to be allowed on the road. Some of the rust buckets driving around in the States would never pass the inspection. Scary stuff. You can take the kids to Europe when they're older and can enjoy it more AND won't need to much constant supervision.

Once you get used to single lane traffic on most roads then you will be fine. We have dual carriageways that are two lanes and motorways 3/4 lanes. But most roads are single lane. The hardest part of navigating is working out which lane you need to be in on roundabouts or main roads. Usually written on the ground as well as signage. We have a small number of roads that is only one track for both directions and have passing points (more in the countryside than towns) and beware the one way streets lol.

Hi Folks, Hope we don't see you in pt.3! I can vouch for traffic stops in the U.S being very different from the U.K, Travelling from New Jersey to Las Vegas in '89 got stopped twice once in Pennsylvania & in Utah both times it was get out slowly, hands on roof etc they got all our luggage out of vehicle and went through everything they were friendly enough but you were left under no illusion not to make any sudden moves in fact I had to ask for one of them to grab my cigarettes from glovebox, a few weeks earlier a British tourist had been shot by U.S police for reaching into glovebox for cigarettes, We had an instant cash fine of $142 for speeding which I'm sure went straight in their back pockets. On another note if Ethan is determined to wear his Oliver Twist hat travelling to the U.K they've introduced a Dicken's tax for Non-UK citizens at Heathrow Just Sayin' Best Wishes Jim, Surrey, U.K X

I think the right move is to slow down and yell from the car 'I have dashcam footage of it, want me to pull over?' and then if the cop says yes, they aren't surprised at your presence. But yeah alternatively, keep going, call non-emergency police services and let them know you saw the incident, where you saw it, and that you have dashcam footage. Or I guess upload it online :P

The yellow check is called a yellow box junction. You follow the white lines but it is basically saying you dont want to stop in the box if the traffic backs up even if you have a green light you have to wait so as you dont block the junction

Hi Ethan & Angela, At: 17:30 regarding the Books on the Giant’s Causeway in Northern Ireland, Me and some friends took a trip in the 90’s from Birmingham, UK to Northern Ireland and also popped over to Donegal in Ireland itself, Me & a friend went to try & find the Giant’s Causeway and we did find some stones / steps that matched those that you see in Pictures & Movies etc but I reckon that we didn’t go far enough as I believe we missed what we went there to see, Hopefully I’ll get chance to go back to see if I can find the main attraction so to speak, I might upload the original footage to my Channel when I dig it out, I never delete any of my footage and that includes footage that I’ve collected from my Dashcams which goes back to 2012,I think I’ve got in excess of 30TB’s of footage although it may be more than that, I would not drive if I didn’t have a Dashcam and too me they are essential, Wish I’d found your Channel sooner! Anthony, Birmingham, UK 🙂🇬🇧🇺🇸

The yellow cross hatch means you can only enter the box if your exit is clear. The car that two wheeled is on the road around the corner from me, a lot of accidents happen there I assume because people dont realise it's a traffic circle and not a roundabout and there are 2 lanes for a few hundred metres where the right lane is right turn only and the left lane is straight on only but no signage or lane markings apart from painted arrows on the road to let you know that so people are always swerving into the correct lane at the last second. It also doesn't help that from the traffic circle 2 of the roads are 30mph limit and 2 are 40 mph limit.

I had to rewind one of the first ones where the car with dash cam went past on the left. The other car had stopped in the road for no reason. There was a red light but that was for the other side of the barrier. You do occasionally get drivers stopping at red lights that aren't for them.

In the uk when the lights go amber people usually start going so when that motorcycle cut in front of that car and the car knocked the bike over it’s probably because the car had already started driving and the motorcycle cut him up to late.
