Doering family heads to South Dakota: Custer State Park, Mt. Rushmore, Badlands & Crazy Horse! 2020

Our family headed to South Dakota this September. We had crazy weather that went form 96 degrees to a snow storm and 32 degrees. The multiple visits to Custer to see the buffalo was our favorite activity but also loved heading out on ATV's, staying in our cute little cabin, seeing the famous sites including Wall Drug and most of all just surviving the car ride! We had taken all the big boys to the Dakotas before Audrey came into our family and wanted to show her the sites and some of our American history. Virtual school provided a unique opportunity to see the sites and still "attend" school. I am so glad we went!

The temperature range you cite reminds me of Arizona, where I lived for 16 years. If you live in Phoenix, you can have 90 degrees in, say, February, and then take a 3 hour drive North to Flagstaff and you've got snow and freezing temperature.

Two things jumped out about this vacation video... how miserable the young man looked... most of the time...John??? 16/17ish... exactly like I would have been at that age, and was... on a Fam vacation!!! missing my mates... wondering if the lifeguard at the pool was flirting with the girl/ young woman I have a CRUSH on...??? But much more than that... Audrey... how LUCKY, and PRIVELIGED her life is.... and where it might have been otherwise... and I watch a lot of adoption videos... and YES, Audrey... Hit It Out Of The Park!!!!!! and that being said... Audrey got nothing less... and more importantly... nothing more than what she deserved..... LOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.. and all children deserve that.............

You hit the nail on the head! John was 18 in that video. He is our youngest son and has trouble with social situations. This is his look most of the time anymore. We were planning on going somewhere special for his HS graduation and with COVID it was cancelled so he was not as excited to come along. Not sure he was old enough to leave alone quite yet, still lacking a bit of maturity. We are very blessed to have Audrey in our lives. WE are the ones who are so very lucky to have been given the gift of this child. I know someone has some amazing plans for her in the future and we can't wait to see what is in store. She just announced that she would love to try for an Ivy League school. I can't even imagine but who knows with that kid! Have a great Sunday and enjoy the Super Bowl!
