It is amazing what you can find in car boots and in charity shops these days as there is always a gem hiding .

Why did the auctioneer mention it was brought for a fiver at the booty by a youngster ..Totally devalues the item talking it down like that I buy at booty and sell at Fairs etc but I would never say I only paid a quid for that mate it would undermine my sales position
@DavidHarperAntiquesАй бұрын
Because it’s part of the story. We’d already made a video about it (there’s a link in this video description) A genuine buyer of these things would not be put off by the car boot connection. It makes zero difference. Thanks for commenting and contributing though, it’s much appreciated. Cheers

Funny to read some of the comments. The item brought what it was worth. Ming bronzes aren't as valuable as some expect and this had damage. It reached the top end of your estimate which I thought was realistic. A good result for a £5 boot buy.

@DavidHarperAntiquesАй бұрын
Can you imagine if I’d said that... that’s an altogether different channel !
@OneHoboАй бұрын
I feel the price achieved at auction is down to the skill of the individual auctioneer, take that Scotish lady Anita Manning is it ? She really whips the buyers up into a bidding frenzy by softly announcing the items making the public feel they are lucky to have been there for an opportunity to bid on the item and then pays fierce attention to the back and forth in the room wheedling every last penny for an item, a truly magnificent auctioneer who’d sell sand to the Arabs at a profit 😮
@DavidHarperAntiques29 күн бұрын
@@OneHobo True, but you also need to make the world aware that the piece is going for sale…this one sold to a Chinese buyer living in America!
