Yep. If someone goves you such a good deal, you need to show goodwill back. $1,000 would have been the right thing to do. And you still can: make a video on which you return to the guy's house to give him an extra $150. You get the content, you'll make money with the video, and he gets the bonus he deserves!

@@shrooms8475 That’s what I meant as well, but it’s an overwhelming task to do that kind of selling in bulk unless u get buyers who buy in “lots” like he did. Otherwise u get stuck selling again and again. Garage sales can be fun 3 or 4 times, but then too much work for all that u get out of it. I give it all away cheap, but this guy has a garage full of collectibles that should be on eBay. Just 10 items sell for more than he makes in 2 hours. Anyway, at least he was getting paid customers.

@dawnieb.7394
@dawnieb.7394 2 жыл бұрын
@@leeartlee915 that's an exaggeration. It's unfair to categorize ALL resellers in this way. Plus, you forget it's a free market. No one is holding a gun to anyone's head forcing them to sell high-end items at garage sales for way less than they're worth. If someone chooses to do that, it's their choice and their right. There's also no shame in a reseller trying to save themselves some money on a deal, because the seller can always say no! There are many, MANY people out there who are happy to sell items to resellers for less than the items are worth, knowing full well that the resellers are going to try to flip the items for more. It's really not so horrible. ETA: It's also not like the seller asked for $5,000 and the buyer counteroffered $500. Now THAT would be pathetic. Just like when you have a garage sale and you're selling a $30 appliance for $3.00 and someone comes along and says "Would you take $1.00?"
@leeartlee915
@leeartlee915 2 жыл бұрын
@@dawnieb.7394 I mean of course I’m exaggerating. All Yankees fans aren’t the worst… but most are. But that little “free market” thing you bandied about, that is the biggest load of horse shit you can pin your argument on. The free market, while a wonderful thing in many ways, does not absolve a litany of individuals from not being horrible, shady, bottom dwelling, parasites. The two can co-exist. You can have a free market AND people who do shitty things within that free market. Of course I’m engaging in hyperbole but the reality is that I don’t have a lot of respect for resellers. Like I said in my above comment, I think of them a lot like those gross af used car salesmen: legally allowed, sure, but someone I would avoid at all cost.

It's business, not charity. There is no virtue in overpaying for something if the seller is willing to sell it at your price. Additionally; the buyer doesn't know how quickly he will be able to sell it, or if he will be able to sell it at all. That merchandise could be sitting dormant for a long time before you sell it. You have no way to know that at the point of sale. This is where the time value of money comes into play. Unfortunately; schools don't teach those financial basics anymore. There may also be some damage that is not readily visible on some of the pieces.

@@arcthelab7 again I don’t argue that this isn’t a great negotiation tactic because after all it’s the most common one. A seller throws out a number the buyer low balls and they settle somewhere in the middle. Perfectly normal. Again my point is that he valued all these things at over 4,000 after he purchased it. Spending 1000 would have been like 3 percent less profitable. Which is nothing. But to the guy selling the 1000 would have been 20% more which he probably needed. You can say businesses is just business and what’s wrong when the guy agreed to the price himself. That’s not the point. It’s easy to haggle a person that is down and needs the money. That’s the issue, taking advantage of a person in need to get the best deal possible. He doesn’t owe that guy anything but I guess I would have just showed some more sympathy. This guy just showed his character or lack there of.

@@aprcuulestdude9076 oh my word! You all are assuming so much!! Not sure why this bothers me so much. Lol! But look, that kind of collectible stuff is way overpriced and is only worth something to a few collectors. Plus, the buyer is not finished when he pays for the items. He's got to get them home, catalog them, takes credible photos of each, upload each item to the sites he uses to sell. Then he had to carefully wrap and ship to each buyer. That's a bunch of trips to the post office. Did you also listen to the whole video where he said that a couple of them did have damage. Also, did you hear the seller say he absolutely did not want to fool with them and was hoping someone would come buy them all AND he said he hoped he tripled his money. He was incredibly grateful to get them out of his garage. Most people go to yard sales to pick up items for a couple of bucks. Very few spend 850.00 at a yard sale. Yard sales are supposed to be used items for pennies on the dollar.

You guys are talking about he should of gave him 1000, no it’s a yard sale. He did not make 10 grand he mad 3000 and sold 650.00, most people wouldn’t even buy them at yard sales. So I think he offered him a fair price

I agree. The man selling the items didn't pay for any of it, his deceased sister did. He made a profit also, who knows if he has to pay off outstanding bills in her name, then sell the house not sure if she still owed a balance, etc. Let alone funeral costs.

I know it's business but knowing how much it's worth a fair price to pay would have been $1000. I don't kmow but it just did not sit well with me especially since the guy was so nice. My husband buys car parts for classic cars and on multiple occasions has paid more than the selling price because he says the part(s) are worth way more.

The problem is that you never know if the time and effort of selling 60+ figures is going to actually make a profit. On the fly, at the actual yard sale, you have to decide immediately....and keep in mind the seller is getting Cash-in-Hand instantly....no work of posting, taking pics, writing descriptions, boxing, shipping, and having to wait maybe weeks/months for an item to sell....etc., etc. Plus with potential depreciation, and yes these items are technically "used" and the boxes are not mint new...on and on. The overhead of having to sell stuff afterward can sometimes creep up and bite you on the rear-end if you do not account for all of those variables. The bottom line is, there are lots of moving parts -- and the seller is happy to get rid of the boxes, free up storage space, and have fast cash. The buyer is happy to have a chance to put in more work, time, effort to potentially turn a profit. Everyone walks away feeling satisfied.

The collector mentality often doesn't make sense to others. A lot of those figurines were never taken out of the packaging. Collectors often collect things and just having it in their collection is enough. They have no need to open it up and look at it or display it.

To all those criticizing them for taking advantage of the seller: Check out @11:00. The seller is fully aware that they're going to make a huge profit, and he seems to be fine with that. Getting rid of the stuff without too much hassle seems to be a priority for him. On top of that, it's not rocket science to check the prices of the items you're about to sell. Even older adults are computer literate, and the seller definitely did some research.
