So good to see a shop full of used equipment and repurposed furniture. As a poor excuse for a self-taught woodworker, I'm encouraged. My tablesaw is a 1970's era Craftsman with no safety features. Couldn't even put a riving knife on it if I wanted to. Was a "gift" from my father-in-law, who i can only assume is trying to kill me...I'm a girldad to two myself, and some of my happiest times are working with them on projects. Keep it up, sir.
@worstworkshop11 ай бұрын
I've had three old Craftsman table saws. None have riving knives, but at least the one I'm using now can have a splitter. My first one couldn't even have one of those.
@kcarson427511 ай бұрын
@worstworkshop I think the microjig splitter system will work for mine. That old thing has been put through it. At one point, the power switch must have failed so someone threw a light switch on the side for power.. Ah, the joys of used tools... Stay cool. Should be better in DFW now. I'm in San Antonio and it's been tolerable these past couple of weeks. Hope you can enjoy the holidays.

My kids had already grown up and moved out before I started woodworking, so I was forced to get one of those gator lift things. When they were little I was able to have them as cheap labor so the "Dad! There are NAILS in the BOARD!" "Then don't pick it up by that part" had me on the floor rolling, especially since I've actually used the "don't pick it up by that part" reply. Just priceless.

I ended up unsubscribing to 731 because he turned into a shill machine. I get it. He's not the first person I unsubscribed to for the same reason. Full time on You Tube requires users to generate content consistently. Multiple woodworkers have talked about how project videos take longer to film/produce and get fewer clicks.

Pocket hole jigs work for all kinds of stuff and are way cleaner. I have done what you did before. I have a nice one now. I didn't starting out. The little single one he listed it the bomb for fixing furniture. Mostly legs. Especially heavy things that have little wooden feet poorly attached that someone has just "slid" on the carpet ripping it off. A well places block and a few pocket screws with some glue is a good thing. Been there and done that.

I'm 65 started in construction at 15 , back then there were no sliding miter saws actually there werent to our knowledge beveled miter saws , we had plain old miter saws (electric) hammers hand planes chisels tape measures angle squares framing squares speed squares hand saws and we built multi million dollar homes track housing and custom homes , I BY NO MEANS AM i SAYING THESE NEW TOOLS ARENT SWEEET cause they are , but they do nothing today we werent doing in the mid 70s and doing it as nice and much nicer actually , but I agree whole heartedly with your assessments here, i like and watch a few of the people you have shown here, they seem like good guys and I am not calling any of them sellouts but they either get alot of free tools tooling machinery etc. and they do no better than anyone I grew up with USING FAR LESS tools the key here I think is thattheir viewer base is more aligned with the newer know nothing yet carpenters and their teaching modern easier to use methods than the old style methods of using your actual skills and knowledge, By that I aint saying certain tools machines cnc etc arent sweet but they takeaway the knowledge and part of the skill, this may seem mean or cruel and is not at all meant or intended that way, but sponsorship is exactly that no way will i pay woodpecker pricing cause I dont need them doing my brainwork for me

I do watch 731 but when I go to look at the prices of items he recommends, I too am wondering who he is actually targeting for these videos. I'm a Dewalt fanboy and so I bought the 90 degree drill attachment based on his recommendation. Not overly impressed - I'm guessing he didn't enjoy sticking his big paw into a tight space to use this thing. To use this ANYWHERE be prepared to support it (BOTH DIRECTIONALLY AND ROTATIONALLY) at the 90 deg bend , otherwise it will not work. Yep, I bought the spring loaded punch as well. As you say, it can be done cheaper and more accurately with many things much cheaper. As regards the GATOR LIFT - damn, I don't have kids (cute kids!). Very enjoyable video - subscribed!😂

You had me smiling the whole video. That was fun I love 731 WoodWorks and I love your channel also. I’m an officer like Mr 731 was and we don’t necessarily get to smile that much in our line of work. It’s great to sit down and watch the girls and yours lite hearted videos. Keep up the great work.

Hahahha this was a great video, I watch those videos too. And I dont think hes generally wrong about tools, but I watch one of the videos, add the things I would like to the cart, look at the $300 cart. Go you know I get that down, I will take out the things I dont really need. Next thing I know the cart is empty ready for me to watch the next video. But in fairness some of the stuff in the those kind of videos could be handy and I would like/use. Just alot of times I go Id rather go buy some cool wood and make something instead lol

4:47 Hell no! I may not be one for fishing, but if I catch a fish, I ain't letting that thing go! (Unless it's undersized. A fish is not worth the jail time!)

Not sure there's any other option. If you're married, and your wife gives you a hard time, tell her I said so. Then remind her how expensive medical care is.

@@worstworkshop Oh, there will be a price, of that you can be sure. The question is when, and will she be subtle about it. Full disclosure: I've gotten that look from my now-grown daughter when she was about Little Bit's age.

2:11 to be fair, I’m pretty sure the kids are more expensive than the gator lift, so don’t go that route if you don’t already have kids in stock in your shop 😂😂

The kids are easily the best tool in the shop - when they choose to be there. They may not have a lot of great uses, but... come on... they're awesome. :)

Mine is the 1 tool I only manage to locate when I don’t really need it. But sometimes it’s nice to use a drill when you only need a screwdriver, you know?

Love the channel, down to Earth and totally relatable. Yet another awesome video. I fully agree with you on each of those tools 731 listed. I could disagree on the the pocket hole jig, especially if you have joinery skills in your pocket. It is better to save the money and spend it on the kids, they're expensive and get more expensive as they get older. Full disclosure: I really enjoy my Kreg pocket hole system. I think my first, single-holed, Kreg pocket hole jig was $15, but that was many years ago. I used it till I could save up for a bigger kit.

Here's my real thoughts. If you're a hobbyist, you should do what's fun. If that's pocket holes, awesome. If not, cool. I've never had a good jig, so I'm kind of ambivalent, but I do enjoy traditional joinery.
