Do the same test with A6000s swapped with grip.

Nice test man. It makes sense after seeing the results. The battery is contributing a good amount of heat to the camera body when in it. But with the grip, it moves that away from the sensor/camera internals. So it's not so much the sensor that gets too hot with the a6000 line, but the battery maybe? Very interesting and has my head going.

I´ve never had a single overheating issue with my A6k. Maybe it´s because when i´m recording, i pull the LCD from the body and that maybe that helps a lot to dissipate the heat behind the sensor on the back of the camera.

There is a dummy battery and power unit that can be used instead of the standard battery. Once model supplies power from the AC wall outlet and another supplies power by plugging it into a power bank/pack via USB. This eliminated the heat generated by the standard battery inside the battery compartment. Just sayin' Chuck : +)

Well, that's mainly because the battery also heats while being discharged, creating another heat source alongside the sensor and processor. The battery grip solve this issue putting away the battery heat and leaving only 2 sources instead of 3.

William Bond I never use filters. I used to, but not anymore. You spend $800 on a lens and then you put a $20 piece of glass on the end that affects all of your photos...? That's just my opinion though, I'm sure there are "experts" on KZbin that can give you another opinion.

Awesome videos. Been subscribed for a while now, if I am in the market for anything a6000 this is the channel I trust! Love every upload! Quick video idea for you: the 18-105 G lens vs. 55-210 kit lens. I currently own the 16-50, 55-210 and the 35mm prime (thanks to you, best purchase ever the lens is incredible), but am thinking about trying to sell off both the two kits lenses and pick up the G lens. It would cover down at the wide range but I am curious to see how it stacks up against the 55-210 at the longer range as it costs a fraction of the price.

Really nice video. I want to try this because by high bitrate videos camera heats up in room temp. and of course in summertemp in Crete. Only MP4 recording seems to have no problem. The video of this camera is awesome especially in low light but overheating can become a serious problem with longtime recording. With my nex F3 have no problem but the video is neither smooth nor so gut in low light compared to a 6000.

Hi, I am considering to purchase A6000 and I plan to shoot timelapse with it. Does this overheating issue also occur when you shoot timelapse ? Could you try to do an autofocus test some time? I have a SELP18105G on an a6000, and I've noticed it seems to miss focus pretty constantly. I recently bought a SEL35f18, and when I compared the two, it seemed like the prime nailed focus much more frequently. In tests, I had them at the same aperture, and the 35 still got focus consistently, whereas the G was off. I'm really curious as to why and it it's just me. Could you do some autofocus tests (my specific lenses if you can) and maybe a video on the best focus settings to use?

hello. I'm interested in buying the sony A6000 but just an hour ago came to find out about the overheating issue. I don't have the budget for a better model in the series, and I don't want to add bulk with a grip.. Would you say that 30 minutes of record time is about the maximum it can reach in an average environment? I plan to travel with it.. I don't have plans for long record times like for concerts or interviews, just for private video making and photo taking. I really like its size and features.

Ive only had one time where it has overheated on me and caused issues - that was shooting video for a wedding in 100+ F heat. If you are traveling and shooting, it wont be an issue. Take some spare batteries, as you swap them it cools down the camera quite a bit.

And if you don't mind to get the lens as close as possible (you might not want that) will be the E 30 mm F3.5 Macro SEL30M35.

Juan Madrigal You'd have to get a canon 70d for it to compete with the A6000. Both are good cameras, both can create beautiful videos. Try both in a store, and then buy the one that feels more intuitive. If you are looking at a T6i or older, take the Sony.

Yes, it is. And no, I didnt - too much bulk. Small size makes life easier when traveling and shooting.

This test is good.....but you need to do it on the same camera. Some A6000 and A6300's have longer record times just because of the luck of the draw. I had seen several tests with five A6300's. One got hot at 27 minutes one at the 29:59 mark and the others got hot at 39 minutes...some just got warm ..but not enough to shut down. So the cameras are different from one another. The battery grips are great though.

Yup. It's well known that there can be significant variation within the a6000 and a6300 model lines in the time it takes to overheat. Do a KZbin search for the test that Max Yuryev and Jordan Drake from The Camera Store TV did. So now you need to swap the battery grip over to the other camera and run the entire test again.

Kimchii inSLC manfrotto 290 light, or manfrotto compact advanced, I got both and I'd say go with 290 light, it's a great tripod.

Thank you so much. I went to look for them on Amazon. Is the 290 XTA better than the light?? The XTA with 3-way head look pretty good and it's only $155, I might get this.

Kimchii inSLC That seems like a solid choice aswell, I don't know about the 3-way ballhead but the one on the Light is easy to carry while travelling and works for shooting videos aswell. I'd say go with the XTA if weight isn't a big issue, 5.6 pounds vs 4.1 on the light. But check what ballhead you really need with it.

Le sKateur Du dimanche Battery generate heat under heavy use. With the batterygrip the batterys are not in the Camera so the heat doesnt get transfered into the Body of the Camera.

They heat up because they are not intended for RECORDING! Max recording time is about 30 minutes, if then before they start heating up. If you want to record, buy a video camera. geeez peeps, c'mon.

That is good. I personally would like to see more data points that indicate this is a consistent and reproducible behavior. My grip is on the way so I will report my findings.

Yep but it is the more likely shooting scenario. Everybody knows that it helps I doubt that anybody will shoot with closed screen. My point is to try to overheat the camera with the grip too in order to see how much is actually the difference. PS also I have some bad experience with Meike grips in the past. They sometimes drain power when you are not using the camera... can you try this too?

How many times has this "test" been done? Once I guess? IF so this would be nonsens. Something like this should be done several times to have a somewhat robust result. Second: At least there must be cross change with the grip - obvious. In THAT case the discussion about the setting is obsolet too. Measuring heat by "feeling" is not the best way. There are a lot of possibilities to measure heat, in a cheap way. > Question is: What is overheating??? I guess - due to the video - the LiIon akku. A LiIon Akku MUST (!) be kept in a temp range below ~ 70 degrees C. Is there is high current running the "battery" gets hot. IF all this is real (probably) - I would just get a second battery. All grip user would need them anyway. By changing the battery @ overheating the issue is probably "solved" also.
