Great comparison! I chose a Duo-Sonic HS as my fist electric guitar some months ago and I totally love how versatile it is and it’s also super easy to pickup and play. They are truly underrated.

The old one sounds super original and authentic, more fuller sound, the new one sounds similar but like lower fidelity

I love my 61 Duo Sonic, plays and sounds amazing! Recorded it’s somewhere between a Strat and Tele but has its own thing. Kinda like it’s own aftertaste lol. Nice video guys!

IN late 1963, the only color options in the standard Duo Sonic and Musicmaster was Olympic White and Red Mahogany. The Olympic White finishes did well and aged nicely, however, the Red Mahogany was crap. Hard to find an original in Red Mahogany. I have a '63 in Red Mahogany that was horrible when I got it. I decided to refinish it. I did it in Red Mahogany, however, used a sanding sealer before applying the color. As a bassist, I don't play it worth a darn, but have friends who can. @@FUSIONpresents I got mine up in northeastern Montana about 22 years ago. Sort of a sad story, as a kid (about 21) was looking for drug money (I'm pretty sure) approached me at a gig and offered to sell it to me for $100. I didn't know squat about the Fender 3/4 size back then but figured, what the heck. It had been his father's guitar since '63, and his dad had played it quite regularly in a bands over the years on weekends in local area bars and clubs up until his death in 2000. It hangs, on display, in my home studio/office.

@@FUSIONpresentsYes, I did, and so far I like it very much. I got it on Amazon, and had to fool with it to get it set up to my liking, but it’s really nice and I like the action, shorter scale and excellent tone. It’s a good guitar.

Are you comparing an old guitar with new pickups to a new guitar with stock pickups?

To our best knowledge everything was all stock on both of those.

Does the 63 have the original pickups ?? I though Duo Sonic did not have exposed polepieces that had full enclosed pickup covers. So did you replace the original pickups with hotter strat pickups ??

Great video - a nice comparison between the two. I love the sound of the 63 Duo sonic: what are the pickups? I have a 2019 Duo sonic identical to the one here, I love it (I have very small hands) but I find the pickups a little thin and harsh so I'm tempted to change them

Tbh, AJ has no idea what they were! Apparently they were a random selection from a guitar tech he knew. He recommends that a good set to try are the Fender Fat 60s!

I have a very odd question: "what si the sound difference between a Fender PLayer Duo Sonic SS and a Fender player Mustang (2021 both)?? they are really really close..same scale, same pick ups, almost twin shapes.....so??

Weird, normally the Mustang at least has a wiggly vibrato bridge. But in this case it doesn’t, so it looks like Fender made the same guitar twice with different names. - Aridonis
