Does The Fender Duo Sonic Sound Like A Stratocaster Or Telecaster?

Hi folks, another first on the channel checking out a duo sonic. I was curious as to wether it kind of sounded like a strat so did the comparison - I dont think it sounds similar personally but the middle does sound quite tele-esk.
I know this guitar could be used for all sorts, but personally i do still see it as a great younger/smaller persons guitar. And i always say buying a quality guitar for a kid is far better then chancing a cheaper one. Gives them a solid instrument and gives the parent/buyer a safer investment resale wise too.

I think it has it's own unique sound. I love a short scale guitar, means my stubby fingers don't have to stretch quite as far 🙂

I got into short scales due to a hand injury in 2018, but I wish I had got a duo sonic years ages ago! I love the tone of it, I’d always wanted a Fender, just not a strat or a Tele.

@@itsmeoli3705same. Had two wrist two elbow surgeries, I have done a lot of things to my existing guitars to make them more ergonomic, but tell you what that duo sonic shotscale I bought on sale that sat in my living room as a show piece it just plays so easy as is. I did swap the pick guard put a mini hum bucker and a tele pick up. The dual sonic pick ups did some nice I just needed something different for a project

I always felt this guitar had its own thing going. I first saw one of these in 90’s. I saw a picture of Liz Phair with one as a kid and I was totally enamored but it. I finally bought one two years ago. I don’t have the biggest hands in the world so the neck was a dream come true.

Because of the accessible price, in the early 90s when they did the Duo Sonic reboot I bought one and I loved everything about it-but I was just using it as a intermediary to get to a strat. In 2016 I went to a Guitar show in the last 10 mins of the last day and got a outstanding deal on the new Offset Duo-Sonic. The price tag was $399 but he threw $250 at me and it was a no-brainer… there it sat in my living room, on a stand hang tags on it, for the last six years… Until this year, I saw a hot rodded Duo Sonic video; Duos are not known to be a popular mod platform; however, I found a cool custom pick guard for a mini humbucker / firebird pickup and a Tele neck pickup, now the duo is all I play!

I have a warmoth jagstang with duo-sonic pickups I bought on a whim cuz the price was good and was absolutely blown away by how it sounded--very quacky and sharp on the bridge pup and very full and warm on the neck pup. I was never interested in these guitars until I tried it and now I think they're one of the most underrated models along with mustangs

I would totally use this for some super angry punk, or just a cool, light thing to plink around on! The smaller scale length could make for slightly more creative playing in some scenarios I imagine

For the duo sonic...you need an amp capable of a strong bass signal...otherwise you end up with pure tin. That being said. I miss mine like hell...it is such a fun guitar.

When my kids were about 7 and 9 I got them a Danelectro Dano Pro to learn on. It was about £150 at the time (15 years ago). Watching your video reminded me of that guitar. Different pickups (lipsticks) and different body construction, but the same vibe. Fun guitars. One of my sons went the drummer route, the other still plays guitar

Had mine for about 4 years now. Came as a "Fender Special Edition" with stock HS pickups instead of SS, which was the normal spec for the Capri Orange with maple neck. Low action, plays great. Good looking, fun guitar. The pickups feel a little on the weak side compared to my others but that may be the short scale. Got mine for $499 new. Not sure the they are worth the $840 price tag for the new player series. Both made in Mexico with same specs from what i can tell. Good vid, thanks.

@@Paul-D they need to turn your mad skills into a pedal so the rest of us can get that tone too lol. It sounds awesome and now I have to get one. I already have 2 strats ... u think I could get them to sound like that by wiring up a bridge + neck position?
@Paul-D
@Paul-D Жыл бұрын
A hall of fame reverb pedal or something with a few different reverb types would do it 😁 Hmmm i dont think a strat would sound like it a tele on the other hand would be more similar in middle position

To me it sounds like a weak version of a Tele. Perhaps the short scale made it sounded too flabby due to the lower string tension.
