Does Anyone Else Remember Hoops & Yoyo, Hallmark’s Cartoon Mascots?

Hoops and Yo-yo were a big hyperfixation of mine ever since I was a little kid. I used to go on their website every single day and play with the E-Cards and watch the videos, spending hours and hours laughing on there. My parents surprised me one day out of the blue with little plushies of Hoops, Yo-Yo, and Piddles!! I made a little playhouse out of a shoebox and I still have it!! I am very saddened that most of the e-cards are lost. I loved them so much. This is about to get very sad, but the reason I stumbled on this video was because I found a card that my dad wrote for me right before he passed, and it was Hoops and Yo-yo. The voice box was broken, so I never got to hear what it was supposed to say. I miss him a lot, and I miss Hoops and Yo-yo, too.

i thought i was the only one hyperfixated on them for a long time, but it seems like quite a few people were also really into them, honestly it's sweet how something as simple as greeting card mascots who were meant to be just that, mascots, with no deeper story or even really that many specific personality traits, could end up being beloved and missed by so many people.

Close friend of Bob here, he told me that the way he got fired was pretty out of the blue. On June 5th 2015, He was handed the pink slip, told to pack his stuff and was given a time period to leave. His Daughter created the H&Y comeback account in hopes to get Hallmark’s attention but to no avail. At that point, you are definitely right when you said that Hallmark wants nothing to do with Hoops and Yoyo. To this day, Bob still reposts his memories of Hoops and Yoyo on his Facebook timeline and it pains me to see it because he genuinely loved creating hoops and yoyo content in his time at Hallmark and to have his career stripped away like that sucks.

That’s too bad, I hope there’s a way Hallmark can be more aware of this for Bob to get the rights and stuff to the characters back so he and Mike can bring them back better than ever again, (as Hallmark really don’t do much with them anymore anyways despite owning the rights to them still since this happened, the one I go to they only sell the cards of them and that’s about it now), there must be a way for Bob to bring them back despite that, I hope it happens again one day…

@@princesspeachfan100 Hallmark is a huge and careless company so unfortunately I doubt they’ll ever let the rights go that easily despite not doing anything with h&y. It’s only a matter of time and the efforts of the internet to get their attention, but that has already been tried back in 2015 with no good result. Sorry if I come across as discouraging but it’s the hard truth. At this point, if you ever want to see anymore h&y content in the future, cross your fingers and hope that a dedicated animator on KZbin magically comes forward with fan animations (h&y are easy to animate too lol) and Hopefully it involves the creators’ volunteered voice work or recycled voice clips from their old official content and from there, it’ll probably get Hallmark’s attention depending on how successful the animations are.

@@lalam209 That would be great honestly, I don't know, maybe because of that, I would think there would be some way for Bob and Mike to bring them back in a way maybe like that, like thier own stuff with them without Hallmark being involved (as they really don't seemed to care about them anyways), or...? I saw some fan animation of Hoops, (the person did REALLY good), and so far it seems Hallmark doesn't even care to copyright it or anything. XD

@@connorbeith3232 Adair? He makes christmas ornaments and pop up cards/crafts for the company and I’m assuming that’s hallmark’s current priority atm thus why I believe they kept him there. But what does boggle my mind is the fact Hallmark got rid of the guy behind these iconic duo that made them millions. Truly an infuriating end of an era.

A lot of Hoops and Yoyo stuff is lost media now. I have no clue how we could retrieve it since a lot of it was flash based, but I think it's worth trying to find again. Thank you for recovering the eCards! That's actually a huge portion of the media that I thought was lost. There's still more web content and games that need to be found as well, but once again, I have no idea where to start other than getting in contact with the creators themselves.

Although I think Bob (the voice of Yo-Yo), is more out there (since I seen he had some social media accounts), than Mike (The voice of Hoops),is. XD (I’m not entirely sure if they respond to fan comments much, but if it’s possible, you can try getting in touch with one of them. :)

I wanted to come back and say something. I got into the show Bluey this year, and I got an advent calendar with figures inside. Since it's Christmas, I figured, let me bring out my figures of Hoops and Yoyo and take a picture with them and the Heeler sisters. I posted it to a Bluey FB group, and almost everybody commented about their old memories being unlocked about this silly cat and rabbit. I feel pretty good about it. XD

I loved this reprisal. I was/am an avid H&Y fan, have merch, and was their fan of the month back in 2008. I loved their voices and the rest of their goofiness. That said, I was.... *cough* 43 at time. I regret nothing. I still have my plushies and mug. My nieces and nephews LOVED getting their cards. I was so sad to see the web site go YEET. I REMEMBER THEM!!!! I loved them when I was a kid and only just remembered them randomly a couple years ago (funnily enough, with the waffle song). I'm 22 and I've been riding on nostalgia ever since. I saved all my childhood cards, but now I have a tiny book with figurines, plushies, a talking button, and a mini statue (which I found at a goodwill on my birthday!). My mom also bought me their special and pajamas for Christmas.

I miss hoops and yoyo. When I used to have aol and dialup on my desktop computer which I dont have anymore, I saved the website as a favorite, and I checked in every now and then to see what kind of antics these two characters were up to. They were cute and hilarious. RIP hoops and yoyo ⚰⚰😔

Hoops and Yoyo hold a special place in my heart. My dad was in Iraq for 8 years, a huge chunk of my childhood. He was able to call once a week with a patchy signal that would only last a few minutes. We didn’t have texting or social media, but we could email each other. Being a kid, I didn’t have much to talk about, but we could always make each other smile through hoops and yoyo e-cards. We would exchange hoops and yoyo cards for holidays and gave each other little knick knacks from the hallmark store. I remember a little “panic button” that had the characters being like, “Don’t panic… on second though, PANIC!” And it would make us laugh endlessly. I would push it when I missed him and it would make me smile.

Oh my gosh I have this panic button!! My mother in law had it from years ago and gave it to my son. I stumbled on this video after someone saw the button and said “Oh that’s Hoops and Yoyo!” It goes “Stay calm, stay calm… on second thought, panic!!” Thank you for sharing such a nice memory. Wow...I just remembered Hoops and Yoyo today. Seeing them while I am at an older age is a pretty interesting experience since I am now seeing them pretty differently. I remember Hoops and Yoyo not necessarily for their ecards, but more for their physical cards and their merchandise. I was exposed to Hoops and Yoyo in that fashion as a young child. Ever since that time, I remembered the name of the green rabbit, but not the pink cat. I started to really pick up on the name of the pink cat just today. A Hoops and Yoyo Welcome to My Room door hanger belonged to one of my sisters (that door hanger has a heart). I never knew they were male until today. That day, at a low-price store, I came across at least one card featuring Hoops and Yoyo. While my mom told me that the pink cat was probably Hoops, I told her what I thought was the green rabbit's name, Yoyo. When I looked up at least something like "Hoops and Yoyo" on the internet, those two characters popped up. It is interesting to really get to know the franchise. Edit: I also like your video; it is informative and humorous at the same time.

Fun fact, when I worked for Hallmark UK as a web dev, I built the uk version of the Hoops & Yoyo website as we tried it over here for a while. Didn't quite resonate with the British audience but I loved them. The Halloween stuff was always really fun. I flew over to KC to see Bob during that time, nice bloke and of course he does one of the voices. I forget which, I always got them muddled!

I got my best friend a Hoops and Yoyo card for his birthday or Christmas when we were in elementary school. It had a speaker in it and I would open/close it relentlessly before giving it to him because I thought it was so damn funny. 😆 It very much fit in with the “lol sooo random” sense of humor at the time and I couldn’t get enough of it (the card or the sense of humor). Apparently sadly, one of the guys who voiced one of them, (it was Yoyo's voice-actor, Bob), got fired from Hallmark in 2015ish, I forget why, but I THINK it had to do with money or something), but that's why the characters been kinda dead and silent for 6 years since then, and I don't think we'll see them again unless if Hallmark rehires him, ( HOPEFULLY in the near future), and I think THEY own the rights to the characters too, so unfortunately, I don't think Mike and Bob are allowed to bring them back unless if they had permission and got the rights and etc. from Hallmark. :( (Apparently, Mike (Hoop's voice-actor), still works at one of them, according to Bob, I read it somewhere.)

My family LOVED Hoops and Yoyo!! We would get my dad the physical cards for every birthday for a solid 5 or so years straight, and we have two of the ornaments! I'm a '03 baby and my brother is a '06 baby, so we were kids at the perfect time to become obsessed with them, but our little sister was born in 2010 and missed most of their existence. Despite that, she was still obsessed with constantly turning on the ornaments we have of them as a kid to hear the little jokes and songs over and over. I definitely remember the onslaught of merch in the Hallmark stores, and honestly, these little guys are packed full of nostalgia for me!

And I started watching these goobers around a certain phase because I liked them. I wish these silly little guys could come back. These guys were an EXTREME hyper fixation for me as a kid, for a good 5 years or so. Every birthday or holiday I always asked for “Hoops and Yoyo” cards. I even had the music album! Don’t know what made the fixation die out, honestly probably cause they became more difficult to find over time. I’m a big fan of SpongeBob. Back in the day when they premiered “Its a SpongeBob Christmas” on CBS they also showed Hoops and Yo-Yo’s Christmas special. So of course since it’s somewhat related to SpongeBob I’ve got the DVD in my collection. In all honesty I just think they’re pretty cool too.

I loved... Hoops and Yoyo!! The cuteness of the name "Yoyo" halfway inspired my kittens name around that time. My Yoyo turned out to be the best cat ever, I miss him! I'm so glad someone else remembers Hoops and Yoyo.

I have some core memories of hoops and yoyo. On the website my favorite section was the animation where they had the “manners” videos, the “sugar vendor” podwalkin’ music video and that melancholy black and white video ”thinking of you”. I literally think of that video specifically when I’m sad. Also, that marshmallow dude and Piddles were the best
