I feel like the explanation of the AWD leaves a lot to be desired in this video. The system is set to always activate from 0-6 mph. It will activate up to 43 mph, IF SLIP IS DETECTED. If there isn't any slip detected then beyond 6 mph it will just default to front wheel drive. It's not meant to be some killer AWD system, it's an electric motor in the rear - no drive shaft like a Subaru. It isn't meant to compete with a Subaru. It's just meant to help get started around town in inclement weather.

I think I actually preferred the way it looked before the refresh. the taillights had that long vertical shape which was weird but very unique. I think the problem is that the car has a odd weird shape and then with this refresh they tried to make it look a little bit more normal in the front and rear that just made it look more boring, but kept the odd overall look. One thing that does help this car a lot is to pick a different color, I saw a pre refresh model in pearlescent white and actually it looked a lot better than I was expecting. that particular color seems to hide some of the odd angles and accentuate some of the better aspects. I currently drive a 2008 Prius with 310,000 miles on it and it still gives me 45-50 MPG It's not an exciting car, but it's reliable spacious and practical. I use mine for work so I really don't care how itl ooks I care about its efficiency and cost of ownership. personally I think the third-generation Prius is the best-looking of them, they made it a little bit more sporty than the second gen with the headlights being a little cooler... and in the level 5 trim it came with some pretty decent-looking alloy wheels also.

I have my toys, but my prius is money saver. it cost me only $900 for 365 days of driving. The new Prius can get much higher. Ya it may lag power, but the point is to save money. I am saving ad least 2 to 3G from My SUV, and Prius is an excellent daily work car. Toyota warranties the battery for 10 years. 10X 2G a year is well over 20Grand in savings. A truck fuel costs are like $7000 to 10grand a year. Imagine saving 5 to 6 Grand a year from a truck, maybe even more. Now that gas is really low, I am getting more savings. Once a month fill up in the summer. The money saved can buy me parts for my truck and my sports car. Prius for the win. Not everyone is rich, hybrids are money savers for everyday people.

The Prius was popular because people believed they were saving the environment. The high efficiency of the car paired with near silent EV mode in city driving made drivers felt they were polluting less. The fact is, they're just saving money at the gas pump. Mother Nature doesn't where you emit your greenhouse gases. The mining, transport, and production of the batteries burn diesel. If I get a hybrid Toyota, I just think of it as saving money. But not emitting that much while driving in the city as the car switches to EV mode when it can.

I have a 2016 and love the aggressively futuristic design. I can understand it’s not for everything but I love how the design is consistent. Like the interior door treatment crossing the exterior body crease. And the taillights are amazing. Love the neon effect of the signature line. Now a lot of interesting car designs get neutered with the mid-gen refresh due to people making a stink, resulting in a more mild ‘safe’ styling. This is all for the haters who don’t plan on buying the vehicle either way. I saw this with the gorgeous B9 Tribecca that looked like a poor man’s Porsche Cayenne that turned into a mild uninspiring first-gen Rogue lookalike. For this mid-gen refresh I don’t mind the revised headlights, though I prefer mine. But what really disappoints are the taillights. They went from futuristic, dynamic and expensive looking to really cheap old fashioned and simple...boring.

So it has AWD that's really only effective up to 6mph. Just buy a regular one and get snow tires. What a waste
@marco.morel045 жыл бұрын
No, The Prius AWD system will activate no matter what from 0-6mph, if the vehicle detects slippery conditions then the car will kick it back on and the system can work up to 45-50 miles per hour, to which it will disengage to save battery power

Okay. The new ones look so good to me. Idk why people hate them so much. I guess I'm just insane. Hate the tires tho. But I really really like the new ones.

Given that a POS like the Prius was never appealing in the first place the answer to the question is of course no.
@carterdavis27935 жыл бұрын
@Stereo Typist I love your answer. Even tho I hate a lot of the people that drive these cars, the cars themselves are actually built really well considering that they're a low cost super economy car.

The rear cladding isn't to look rugged since the FWD model has it too. IMO it's the biggest design mistake on the car, the front and side don't bother me, but the rear is terrible. I actually think this is still a very compelling vehicle, especially on the west coast where gas is approaching $5/gallon, but the Prime is more for the same or less money after incentives. IMO Tesla is not really comperable to a Toyota. Some early adopters will go, but I expect it's mostly Toyota's other hybrids cannibalizing sales.

Front looks better, but can't believe they got rid of the taillights.... they were one of the coolest taillights on the market, new one has no design at all...

I don't understand why everyone shits on the Prius so much. It's like Nickelback. There's absolutely nothing wrong with it but everyone feels like they have to hate it. It has to be ugly. It has to be slow. It's none of these things, this car looks incredible and slick. Just because it doesn't look like a LaFerrari doesn't make it useless. I got one in Blizzard Pearl and can't stop staring at it at night.

8:55 why does he act like 1 touch is a feature? It doesn’t require anything more from the manufacturer to include it, just slightly different programming, The only reason certain cars don’t have it is by choice because it’s annoying

Hi there. Amazing video as always. Please keep up the great work Pleases I need you advice. My commute is about 180 each way. I was thinking of the Prius bc of it MPG. But I like the look of the Corolla Hutch. Now most of my commute is 99 percent highway. But on school days there a good amount of traffic. So it takes me about 2 hours In the evening the traffic isn’t as bad so I’m able to do about 75 to 80 mph please give me what advice do you recommend should I just go with the regular gas engine on the Corolla or should I go over the Prius that won’t help me with the mileage thanks for any advice and help that anyone in yourself to give me

The Prius line is one of the ugliest production car lines of the last 25 years. It amazes me that people would drive a car as ugly as a Prius just to save a few hundred dollars a year in petrol.

I own two second Gen Priuses (2007 and 2009). In some aespects, the second generation is better designed than 3rd and 4th. I’m more conservative in terms of design. I was thinking of buying a third generation, but in the second generation I somehow feel better. The fourth generation is too weird for me, the redesign has improved it a bit and it looks nicer.

Great review as always. Looks a little better but, I would rather have an ioniq. Better looks overall, has android auto and better warranty.

Yeah, I think I'd still go for the Ioniq. Current model fully loaded gets better MPG 55/54 or base at 57/55. Plus it looks much better and the 2020 refresh is even more attractive.

I had a 2005 Hyundai Elantra and the chassis rusted in each quadrant at 70k miles and the entire car bottomed out going out over a railroad track. Fully bottomed out. The body.fell.off.the.chassis. I had to pay $75 to have it towed and cubed. Good old upstate NY weather vs. garbage cars. Then my husband bought a Kia Sorrento & his problems were even worse, lol.

I have a old Prius with over 200,000 miles on it. I live in snow country, and the Prius is terrible in the snow. I had to get studded tires in order to be able to drive in the snow. I wish you'd tested the AWD in the snow. That's what it's for, to get you out of sticky areas. No one's going to buy a Prius for performance.

Toyota should’ve given the Camry Hybrid an AWD option. Would likely improve sales and be more appealing to people in colder climates. Skip this if you need AWD get a Rav-4 Hybrid
