Does Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated Live Up to the Original Game?

The clothesline move requires you to double jump to doge the arms and legs. It’s pretty stupid, since you would think double jumping would result in hitting the arms. It goes against your instincts as a player, especially if you’ve played the original

This remake always struck me as them (not with the devs themselves, but the restrictions Nick most likely put on them, as we have precedent to believe) pretty much doing the bare minimum. Like, the graphics are better than the original by virtue of the time that has passed, but they're considerably less polished and many minor elements like the cutscenes transitions just aren't as fine tuned. And it feels like such a missed opportunity to not fix things like the Joe Whyte voices. And sure, that doesn't change how fun the game itself is, but I'd probably much prefer going back to the original because I frankly find that the better version. It really could've been so much more.

@@Shiloh_Shepherd so do i, voices had to be skipped due to some rule stating that every voice would have to be redone, and since all voice actors grew up and their voices changed, it would be as jarring to go from the original to the remake just as it was going from bfbb to cosmic shake. and with how limited they were with time when making this remake it makes sense with how they werent able to polish some of the simplest things, but at the end of the day they did an amazing job

I do feel like that they rushed the game out to coincide with the Sponge on the Run movie (even if the movie ended up being delayed and releasing later on) but for what it is, they did an alright job being faithful to the original (even if they kept the Clancy Brown impersonator instead of redubbing Mr Krabs properly).

voice acting rules are always kinda dumb, if they wanted to replace just 1 voice they quite literally would have had to redo all of them at that period in time. considering theres still more voice acting protests going on today, i wouldnt doubt it will get way worse down the line

The reason the Thunder Tiki keychain is brown is cause that was its original design in the remake but it was changed to be more red in the final after it got criticism from fans. Because of how merch tie ins for this sorta thing are handled they probably didn't have time to change them to reflect their new color scheme.

I think the missing line from the squidward’s house thing can happen because it’s possible to accidentally skip the line when you’re mashing the jump button, I know because I got the line to trigger for me when I played it myself.

10:25 Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't you supposed to hit the bubble bowl spinners on the other side? Like you're spinning it clockwise to bring the platform down so since the platform can't move in that direction anymore, neither can the spinner. You'd have to spin the spinner counterclockwise.

I haven’t played this game yet but I do love the updated graphics but I do agree that from what I’ve seen some of these changes seem to lower the excitement like the boss battles.

I never played Battle for Bikini Bottom during my childhood, granted it was my brother's game and he has the right to tell me no if i wanted to play but still. I do plan on getting the game on my switch when i get the money and see for myself how i would like it. I've always wanted to play it, and now that it's available on the switch I'm excited. Though I'm still angry that the Mr. Krabs impersonator is still there, but that's something i can kinda look past.

I have the rehydrated version of battle of the Bikini Bottom that is the remake on the Nintendo Switch and I love it even though it's hard and frustrating with the robots, I love the graphics and it's very nostalgic to the show and for me and I'm stuck at the king jellyfish part and this game is only Spongebob game I have I don't have the others and I never played the original. Also I love the toys that look so cool and I love the unboxing part. I love the video and I hope you do unboxing stuff for the Pokemon games if you do play Pokemon I do. I don't have those toys and I love the socks you have from the box.

This game looks way better than the original, especially in the graphics! They don't look to weird, unlike the original graphics in the game! And the overall animation looks so good! And good of the staff to reuse the voice lines in the game remaster!

The one thing I was hoping from this game was some sort of inclusion of content from the "sequel" to BfBB, the movie game, like alt costumes from that game like the Goofy Goober versions of Spongebob and Patrick or Glam Rock Spongebob from the final boss of that game.

Yes I think it does. Shame they took out little quirks here and there but I think the game does exactly what a remake should do: modernized a classic. The graphics were really the only thing Rehydrated needed to update as everything else was perfect the way it was. Well except Joe White as Mr Krabs and Mermaid Man. They should have hired someone who could do a convincing impression of Clancy Browns Mr Krabs voice and someone who could do Ernest Borgnines Mermaid Man voice

I do gotta say, I think the unboxing should be at the end or in a separate video. It’s ok, but felt disjointed from everything else. The original version is still one of my favorite platformers of all time...Many kids had Banjo-Kazooie, I had this! For any SpongeBob-loving kid, it was truly the gold standard for a game based on our favorite cartoon. It was released at just the right time, it was well-designed and felt just like the show. The game just worked on so many levels! I've been thinking about buying Rehydrated for a long time. Considering I sadly no longer own the original game, this is as good an opportunity as any for me to re-live the BfBB experience after so many years through this remake. But from what I've seen, some of the aesthetics just aren't the same. Like the boss battles are much less epic-looking now, and warp boxes don't animate when you jump in them. It's the little things that matter, y'know? Still, I won't discount that the whole package looks great, and Bikini Bottom has never looked better! And the fact that they bothered to remake the classic game at all came as something of a pleasant surprise, let alone actually do a solid job of it.
