I was 33 when I started in 2018. Pretty recent, but I feel younger at 38 than when I started! It's amazing. This podcast has helped a lot with my recovery and resistance to injury.

Same. 35 here. Generally in good shape but feel broken after every practice. Can barley make it out of the bed the next day. Lol

Started 3 months ago at 37 years old. Push pull legs rest repeat for weight lifting, mon-thurs + sat jiujitsu.. not that much soreness anymore. I just feel strong

If you're sore after any training - the problem is hydration, nutrition, and lack of flexibility. yeah you're going to take your bumps, but your active recovery is critical. fish oil, gelatin, and plenty of rest helps with the hand and joint cramps.

Started in my 40’s, not ideal but it is when I started my journey. Am I sore, yep, do IGAF?; nope ! You just have to push through it

I've seen people in many sports destroy their bodies. It's a labor of love for many of us. As I see it, in your 40s are the most dangerous times because you are young enough to go really hard but old enough to get really hurt.

done some research and it does appear that BJJ is more taxing on the body compared too other martial arts. Why is it then referred to as the "gentle art" ?

When efficient, controlling your opponent can be somewhat more gentle than head kicking the shit out of them. However, that requires you to be good, so white belt death matches of maximum strength and minimal skill still exist.

It is a "yielding art" for sure, but sometimes you want to win (or not be submitted) which is the story he tells here. Check the ego at the door, keep one foot on the gas, and the other on the brakes!

Stop holding onto the gi. If people yank, just let go. Else you're quickly on the path to arthritis

Just damn near blew out my left knee going for a takedown. I don't think I tore anything, but it's been about 3 weeks and it's still extremely sensitive.

51 here. BJJ is a youngman's sport. BJJ is a strongman's sport. BJJ is an athletic man's sport. With these attributes, soreness might never be an issue. But since we lack some of that, we're more likely to suffer from soreness, minor to major injuries, etc, etc.

So I have a question, I'm a new white belt, I'm a bit overweight, and I feel like its affecting my ability to do BJJ well, the main reason every time I go to class (I can only do 7am classes) I get through the warmups, then the techniques, but just before we do live rolling, I have to throw up. I've never had this issue with before, and I can go quite hard on cardio at the gym and don't run into this. I wonder if it's just a conditioning thing or not, but it makes it really difficult to keep going as I hate having to leave the mats because I need to throw up, and I don't want to roll afterwards because well, I feel kinda gross. Is there anything anyone would recommend?

Dehydration and low salt levels. I had the same problem and found using something like a lmnt or metilyte tablets helped with this alot. When I did evening classes back to back I would try to get something in me between classes

@@espartajodesastroso7892 This is what I usually do, when I end up throwing up, I rarely bring anything up, it's mostly just wretching.

@@leborhal7450 You think more hydration before and during? I tend to bring water with electrolyte powder in it.

@@Mrflatlife no idea then maybe you will get used to training with time. The only other advice i have is losing weight, all the people i see vomiting usually have unhealthy lifestyles. Be honest with yourself if that is the case, and maybe breathing and meditation could help, the mind is really powerful
