The caste systems has existed in India for a very long time. The British only manipulated it to benefit them. The old divide and rule policy. But you should understand even our Prime Minister comes from a backward caste so officially it is outlawed but a some die hard villagers do practice this but is rapidly disappearing. You should know that in the US blacks even in the early 60's had no voting rights and Jim Crow segeration laws were in place. India after independence in 1947 all citizens could vote irrespective of caste or gender

This is rather misleading. The blacks already had the right to vote all the way in 1870 with the fifteenth amendment. The Jim Crow segregation just like the name suggest is a segregation for the people of color and it only occur in the southern state, not the rest of America.

Nice video on confirming the caste system from a local Indian population’s perspective. It’s interesting to learn from your video that the caste system is normally first divided through religion and not lineage or skin color which I learned from my history class, my history professor happened to be of Indian ancestry. It seems like the newer generations are not concern in fueling the old caste system so it’s nice to hear progression.

Caste is reality in India Almost everybody has a caste. But in cities less/no discrimination especially among young people. But when it comes to marriages still 90% of marriages happen within the same caste. But as time passed, intercaste marriages were on an increasing trend. Govt divides many castes into 4 groups based on hierarchy. Upper castes(15-20%) Backword castes(50%) Scheduled castes (15%) Scheduled tribes(8%) Since 75 years the last 3 categories have been receiving reservations in govt jobs and medical, engineering seats.

In the eye of law all are same. But every one is culturally different. That is what makes India a diverse sub continent even today. Unfortunately the communist thinkers have skewed peoples mind to think that caste itself means discrimination and is bad. It gets reflected in what these kids are saying about it. As they grow out of college in few years reality stricks back.

In early vedic period caste system is called varn system Varn means groups There are 4 varns in early vedic society. 1. Brahmin - philoshphere, teacher, scientist, priest etc 2.khasatriya- warriour, king etc. 3.vaishya- businessman, tradsmans etc. 4.shudra- craftsman, engineer etc. In rig veda varn system define by brahm body (Brahm is like supream personality) Brahm head is brahmin Hand- khasatriya Leg -vaishya feet -shudra Varn system based on job/ work If a person he bocomes teacher is brahmin If become warrior is khasatriya .... In later vedic period varn syatem became rigid So person did not able to change there job/work. In later vedic period it is based on birth in which varn person birth . In british period , britishers follows "divide and rule policy " they creat more division among all religion and varns pakistan is the result of divide and rule policy. In 1950 when indian constitution enforced indian gov. Creates 3 category st, sc, obc to overcome caste system. In gov. Jobs a person who belongs from these three categories is preferd. In universities, colleges seats are reserved for these 3 categories. In present caste or rigid varn system is still exist in mostly marriages. At present india's president smt. Droupadi murmu is belongs from st category( tribe). and prime minister mr. Narendra modi is belongs from obc category (shudra). So caste system is slowly vanishing from indian society.

Caste discrimination is rooted not in religion but culture. Caste was an ancient system of occupational class delineated in Hindu texts that over the years developed into a rigid social hierarchy. Manusmriti text was never implemented as a law code in ancient India. The lowest castes, or untouchables, were marginalized and faced persecution. Caste-based discrimination is not intrinsic to Hinduism and should not be thought of as religiously sanctioned. the poorer workers involved in 'unclean' occupations such as sweeping or leather work were historically segregated and banished outside the city limits. Over time, personal cleanliness came to be identified with "purity", and the concept of untouchability eventually spread to the rural areas. The caste system as it exists today is the result of developments during the rise of the British colonial government in India. The British Raj furthered this development, making rigid caste organisation a central mechanism of administration. By 1860 the British formulated the caste system into their system of governance, granting administrative jobs and senior appointments only to Christians and people belonging to certain castes.

Like any old world like in UK or Germany, for instance, you will find people grouped by profession, it was very common everywhere in larger and mature civilizations. Most "civilizations" got over it during the Industrial Revolution. However, in India, it continued until freedom from Britain. Britain used this "caste" system to divide and rule, and keep people uneducated. The literacy rate when India got its freedom was 18%, today it is 78%. As you can imagine awareness has eradicated this caste system in India for most part.

caste system is introduced by British to divide and rule India. they modified India's varna system into caste system with the help of some brahmins. in every section of life people were divided by caste. even elections were held separately for different castes. they introduced another section of people called the untouchables. during their rule people were kept uneducated so they believed what was being told by the corrupt brahmins working under the British. unfortunately India's history written by the british. now caste based discrimination is mostly present in backward villages in India. India's previous president was from so called lowest caste. India's current president is a tribal woman. India's current prime minister is from so called lower caste.

Sorry to disagree. Many indians are into this sort of confusion. British did not introduce caste system. Caste and discrimination are two different things. What british brought in was enhanced discrimination to divide and control people. Divide and rule was their colonial strategy. Caste as system itself is not bad and it has been our system from very long time before british. Probably the educational propaganda or lack of knowledge on it has confused the people regarding castes really.

STILL HONOUR KILLINGS AND UNTOUCHABILITY ARE ALIVE IN INDIA....these younger generation do not think how to defy and kill caste prejudice instead these people are fed to think to 'End reservations to end caste system' ironically it's like a doctor saying to remove oxygen supply to the patient and then I will operate....

no one follows varna system. cast issue is prevalent in society because of west's racism towards indians specially hindus as well as it is prevelent due to discriminatory reservation system in india and that is why they always mention cast system when talk about india and hindus. moreover western racist media always explain that as part of hinduism and they cleverly hide the fact that it exists in all other religions of whole indian subcontinent and there are sperate mosques and churches too. this so called cast system is british made issue where they wanted to divide society so they can rule and such resources. it is british who brought cast based census and other things. there is lot of material on it. when foreigners ask about cast system that also shows their racist mindset either intentionally or unintentionally. we explain them with guilt but with time after staying and reading things in west i started to understand their mindset and how racist media write about us. it is interesting that they only see hinduism through lens of cast but not through yoga, meditation, ayurveda, mathematics etc which is more famous all across the world. and we should not forget the role of filthy christian missionaries who add fuel. islamists and christian missionaries want hindu society to stay divided so they can create fake victimhood for conversion activity. which can be easily seen since british times where they come with fake terms like adivasi. india is the only country in world where british did not able to kill and convert indegenous hindu people so when they cant defeat they defame. and that is what they did and doing it. new role of those british has been taken over by americans and further followed by their slaves like canada and other european countries. several european countries does not even recognize hinduism in their country they give lecture to the world about religious tolerance and human rights. it is so imp for us to know geopolitcs and many other things going all across the world to get all answers.

Caste is portuguese term now let me explain caste system existed in west too if you look back in history like the clergy, nobles, commoners still they add things like blacksmith to there name.social division existed in all parts of world and so case was in india but british in order to divide hindus made hardcore and maintain these things in paper for eg a carpenter son will given surname of which implies him to be carpentry to uneducation people thought that people doing low category job like washing clothes, cleaning toilets as low and hence impure but its was never part of our culture and religion. People in west associate it with hinduism but hinduism basic teaching is that your varna(so called caste) is of your profession not birth and everyone should be treated society Present condition of caste in india its merely on paper i dont see much discrimination yes it exist in village but only done by uneducated one. It will completely perish in next decade. Yes so called low caste people have reservation like reserved seats in politics and education they get lot of government subsidy too. But our governments worked on stopping this discrimination by giving the so called in the lower rung of society a quota for govt. jobs. 10:25 When the British came to India, it was nothing less than a boon. Even though the British came to rule, Shudras and untouchables got a chance to study due to their arrival. The British opened schools, colleges and hospitals here. Due to English education, Dr. Br Ambedkar could become a great human being. These Brahmins used to consider Sanskrit as the language of the gods. Only Brahmin had the right to study. Even women did not have the right to study. Casteism came only when the influence of Buddhism waned. In the 9th century, the influence of Buddhism decreased. Divided into many branches. Then the arrival of Muslims in India, the rise of Brahminism, and casteism became like this. Casteism was fully established after the 12th century during the Muslim rule. But casteism was created by Brahmins only. It seems to be an alliance of foreign Brahmins who entered Buddhism and the invading Muslims.

Look at older texts you will see it existed long before British rule. The corrupt British elite merely used it to their advantage when they ruled India. Just like any country a few bad apples doesn't mean all the people are bad.

Our students knows only what is in their text books, they don't know who is the chief minister, who is the education minister etc. For proper information please watch the videos of sadguru about any matter. Basically in hindhu religion they have 4 castes, 1) Brahmans are the teachers, preasts, writers, intellectuals. 2) vaishyas are the business people 3) soldiers and, kings belongs to kshathriya caste. 4) Dhalits are in to cleaning job like street sweepers, drainage cleaning and etc. But apart from that india has many other casts like Goldsmith caste, blacksmith caste, weaving caste, yadhavas are into dairy business, Sheppards are different caste, honey collectors are a different caste, wine makers are a different caste.

What I'm saying that western people with their puny mind cannot understand great civilization like us, they are thinking caste system is bad, but they don't know caste system was not originaly ours, it came from outside, probably them, because there was varna system which classified society into four groups according to their profession, later on as invaders came they polluted this system with their undeveloped brain and started calling it caste, now our fault was that we got influenced by that and destroyed our own system, ofcourse you can blame upper caste for that, but as an oldest civilization we came to know our mistakes and now as all invaders are gone we are coming back on our track and fixing what was wrong, it's time to get what belongs to us again, all the looted wealth and glory.

Present days Politicians are diving Indians for their vote bank. Also, I can clearly see all the ppl you've spoken are from the top of the hierarchal chain of the Varna system. To know the pain & discrimination of caste system you should talk to those at lower parts of the varna (Caste) system. a week back a group of upper class hindus mixed human feces in a drinking water tank of the lower caste hindus, it's all over the news. That's the real Indian caste system for you.

Caste system and discrimination are two things. Caste system defines the social structure and the caste system that India has is a civilizational social structure. Its very harsh to term it as its fckd up. Caste system itself is not bad. Me being from a generational craftsman community cannot make it bad right. I have to be proud of the community I am from and I really am. My ancestors have built so many historical structures that India is proud of. Why should anyone be disgusted about it. Discrimination is something that is been thought about seriously in india from last 75 years and its almost non-existant in cities and exists to some extent in villages and is a matter of time. This has also become a political ploy for vote banks.

There is one more misconception. There is nothing called as hinduism. Its called as sanatan dharma and there is no conversion system or baptism kind of system in it. We have vaishnavism, shaivism, shaktism, sikhism, jainism, boudhism, lingayatism, etc etc which can be called as religions but everything falls under one roof called as sanatan dharma. Hinduism is a british coined word. Its just a common sense that how can the name of the river be name of any religion? Right. Anyone who lives in the land between himalayas to oceans is a hindu. How can a deep islamic country afghanistan have mountain range called as hindukush mountains? Right.

Based on the first video, I think this is way too complicated based on my exposure to the caste system. It is not clear cut as a race based system, which is still practiced in the West and tolerated by so called democrated goverments. Just like in the West, many challenges and mindsets. People love to create tribes based on anything, this does not change. As long as people are treated on their merit and behaviour that is the best I think we can hope for. There are poor Brahmins begging for food, and there are rich "untouchables" who live in lovely houses. We tend to pick the stories that conform to our bias and will not listen to other sides. With time, education and opportunity things change, given the British looted the wealth and destroyed the education system only 70 odd years ago, India is doing a decent job, just look at the CEOs, Doctors, Business people, etc around the world. Imagine after another 30 years! I often read about how the Europeans destroyed countries and killed natives, I thnk in comparison India is a million times better!

Elections in India are fought on people's castes. Governments are formed. Laws enacted. People of certain castes get favoured by the Governments in education and employment. Rest study and work in private institutions and companies. Some of them migrate overseas in seek of better education and employment opportunities. Most unlucky migrants call abroad their home. Few lucky ones are forced to return to India because their host countrymen and women tell them that they don't belong there. These Indians are then made to run pillar to post in search of jobs in India. Meanwhile, Incredible India grows leaps and bounds clocking double-digit GDP growth. Simple. 😊

Add up all the big cities, thats where you will find almost no discrimination. But even adding all the big cities, that will only make up a very small percentage of whole India and still its not 100% non discrimination. Even in big cities, people of certain caste will not allow people belonging to other caste to live around them. Be it higher or lower caste, everyone does this. There are many more layers to this. It envelopes every sector of human society. And if we look at the rural side, thats where its gets bad. All the rural areas, be it smaller or bigger villages, even many districts have dominant perticular community. Tiny villages are 90% of the times are made up of only 1 single caste community. These villages will not allow other caste person/family to live there. If there's a 1 village of higher caste and few villages of lower caste, then the 1 village with higher caste will have more dominant position all over that area.

Caste system wasn't invented by any foreigner, it had been here for more than thousand years. It may have started as a system based on the job you do, but for centuries you belongs to a caste by your birth itself. Those who are ignorant of the history, it's impact on present life of people from different castes and the way it works in present Indian socioeconomic and political context may say that, caste is not there anymore. Majority of Indians still doesn't marry someone from a lower caste, there are still people who hesitates to share food and space with them, there are still people who do favor/discriminate others on the basis of caste. Even electoral politics is based on caste/religion based vote banks. Look at any high profile jobs in India like Ministers, Government officials, Judges, Doctors, Engineers, Teachers etc. , you can see a clear supremacy of higher castes, even after all these years of reservation (an affirmative action which guarantees a certain percentage of reservation in education and jobs in government owned enterprises for groups subjected to historical discrimination based on the caste). Caste is such a menace that even if you are well educated and well salaried, people may not marry you and may not share a glass of water with you. Yes, there are such people in India even today. Being a foreigner, it is better not to discuss this topic in public places.
