I was just talking to a friend about this last night. Every church has two types of believers: 1. The believer that serves wholeheartedly in the church, but doesn't care about those on the outside, but only the 4 walls of the church. 2. Those that evangelize and bring folks to church until they get saved. After they're saved, they don't maintain a relationship with the person they invited out.

I actually agree with his ideas! The church is a fellowship for believers, and scripture makes that evident! It has gotten confusing for the non believer and the believer; we became lazy in our discipleship. Inviting non believers to church is not biblical; we should give them the gospel Rather than relying on the fellowship for believers! The Bible speaks about a non believer walking into the fellowship, therefore they are welcome, but it seems that there are alot of confused non believers attending church who do not know their need for Christ. That's super terrifying to me! Church or Fellowship has always been for the Born Again Christians and not a public event.

I agree to a certain extent but Jesus cares about the lost too. The terrifying thing about "believer's only church" we only care about ourselves and our needs. 😂, I hate this debate in the church. "Should church be only about lost people or only about church people?" Jesus cares about both. We need more churches that fulfills both. It's not one or the other it's both.
@charissa66483 жыл бұрын
@@anthonymiller9785 Of course Jesus cares about the lost as that was the entire point of God becoming a man; salvation for mankind. However, your in error regarding what fellowship is for. It's not for the lost rather for the Body. We are to live and preach the gospel 7 days a week and not just once on Sunday. According to scripture church is for believers as is evident throughout the Old Testament and the New; light cannot fellowship with darkness. Fellowship can only be done through the indwelling of the Spirit of God; it's not a flesh meeting or a place where people come to hang out. Name one place in scripture that will confirm your ideas of how the Body of Christ is supposed to fellowship with non believers or a public open forum? Edit; The only exception is when Paul is speaking about someone being married to a non-believer; they are sanctified through their believing spouse and welcome to fellowship. The public is welcome to enter as well, but it is not made for non believers as it is impossible for light to fellowship with dark. I believe your misunderstanding fellowship and confusing it with relationship.

@@charissa6648 Ok, 1 Corinthians 14:23- Therefore if the whole church comes together (you see that?) and all speak in tongues, and there comes in those who are uninformed or unbelievers (this is the Apostle Paul) will they not say that you are out of your mind? The Corinthians was a church gathering together, blowing up. If it's all about believers, we can do whatever "believers" understand and don't have to give two cents about what lost people or unbelievers think. That's not God's heart. The church is called to win the lost and make disciples.

I want start by saying I'm biased in the fact that I am a fulltime Family Pastor (youth & children) and I am only 24. I also want to say I respect Andys humility and that he clearly is saying he doesn't have all the answers and that he could be wrong. I think there is practical wisdom in what he's saying in regards to people being paid in ministry can cause problems and that people over the age of 30 tend to be more mature. I would classify his advice more as a proverb, as it is true some or most of the time but not all of the time. I think people can abuse money in ministry but I also think there is biblical precedent that some people should be paid for ministry and some should be bi vocational and have a separate job. Also, what I've learned is while age is a good indicator of spiritual maturity some time it is the best indicator whether someone is able to be in ministry on a more full time basis. Age should just be one factor that we should look at when assessing someone's spiritual maturity. Again, I'm biased and I don't think everything he said was completely wrong I just think there is a fuller picture.
@anthonymiller97853 жыл бұрын
Andy didn't mean any harm. I'm not listening for his theology. It's true Jesus began ministry at 30 years old. Here's the problem, very few understand the reason behind that. The Jewish culture of those times. It would be a lot to unpack but this is the reason for indepth study of scripture. Most biblical scholar's believe the disciples were in their 20's when Jesus chose them. Most of the prophets and apostles in the bible were young men. The majority of our pioneers in Christianity started in ministry earlier than 30. Pastor Charles Stanley started ministry at 14 years old, he's 88 years old still ministering. A lot of older preachers are for young preachers because they started early. I say eat the meat spit out the bone.

Let me share a quote with you from a book I’m in. “The present structure of the typical local church, which is more like a spectator sport than its biblical counterpart, with a few people doing everything and the rest just cheering, will not survive much longer.” ~Rick Joyner I don’t want to be overly critical of the Church. I do however believe that the way the Western Church is constructed both in its government and culture is not according to the Biblical pattern. So I don’t believe it should be a shock if it hasn’t been all of what God intends for it to be. Andy is absolutely correct in what he’s saying and even unbelievers and have seen and sounded the alarm on this stuff as well. I believe God has shaken and will continue to shake everything that has been built by men and not built by Him.

@lift89523 жыл бұрын
I don’t think he was necessarily complicit. I think we have to remember how church culture was back in the day. When Lecrea and a lot of these guys were first coming out it was beneficial for both parties because churches having hip hop artists on stage was counter cultural during that time. Having a good christian rapper perform at a church would actually bring in alot of the unchurched and was a unique way of evangelism, but it’s necessarily not anymore. It’s all about growth and recognizing that things are changes and it’s time to adapt.

Somewhat off-topic, but do you think the songs we praise and worship to may help form a incorrect image of who God is and help shape that view of him subconsciously?
@praisemovement3163 жыл бұрын
If you are listening to it subconsciously. All "worship music" that is presented as such does not give accuracy of the nature of God, but some do. You have to consciously listen to the lyrics and know what you are taking in and know the Word of God that accurately depicts Him to compare it to.

I agree with Andy on going smaller. I’ve always preferred smaller churches to mega churches. It’s easier to get to know all the members and fellowship. It’s probably easier in small churches for a pastor to become something of a tyrant or cult-like leader, but having elders can help offset that.
