I go there and my husband I both went to traditional Churches which were nice- but I felt after coming here our relationship bloomed and blossomed in our faith- love the church so much! The staff was 100 percent there for us when we both lost family members past year, always checking in with us, and the church is so fulfilling! I was always weary of many mega churches and have been to many. This one-just feel the love of Jesus and it truly feels like one big family!

Honestly, this video helped me “get it”. I truly loved the heart he displayed, clear mastery of scripture old and new and a focus on what I think Jesus would care about: transforming people into better images of God. I also loved the ecumenical aspect he has. Sure Catholic, orthodox, high Protestant, go for it but all those who would never step a foot into your churches for all the silly reasons, they may feel at home with us. I actually really love that and I think that is a way more biblical way of looking at the body of Christ than the old church streams acting like it’s an institution.

Much respect for Chris for putting himself on display like this. What an incredible Brother in Christ and his heart for people is extremely commendable. Somethings he said that were troublesome: "I dont' see myself as a Pastor," "We didn't want this to look like a Church," and "All the Churches that Paul planted looked radically different." All of these are misconceptions. The Churches throughout the 1st-2nd century were dedicated to cohesiveness and common traditions. Here is a couple observations: 1. The early church sought consistency in doctrine, practice, and structure, as evidenced by the Didache, Ignatius, and Clement. 2. Paul’s churches were not wildly different; he emphasized maintaining the traditions he taught. (1 Corinthians 11:2) 3. Modern seeker-sensitive churches deviate from historical Christianity by prioritizing cultural relevance over consistent practice. Throughout all of Church history we have never seen anything like the new "Mega Church" Model. 4. The early church viewed innovation in worship as dangerous and heretical. Kicking people out for coming up with new practices that were not passed down by the Apostles or Scripture. Even John Calvin insisted that "worship should be reverent, orderly, and focused on God" 5. The church was never considered an evangelistic tool. It was always understood to be created by believers, for believers. All Paul's cultural conversations were outside the Church. The Reformers saw evangelism as the responsibility of all believers, who were to share their faith in their daily lives. To believe that the Church was just the wild west with no structure is a false perception. They were extremely detailed and intentional with Church Structure. We actually see this with historians outside the Church when they were observing Christians. They all had common observations and Christians were set apart. The Apostles believed that if we all looked "different," no core identity, we would parish. All of this SOUNDS good. But man, we are alone throughout Christian History.

@Ekstol
@Ekstol 20 күн бұрын
Facts, the church is where believers come to worship God, receive the sacrament and are equipped by the word for good works (2 Tim 3:17). It should never be about what is going to appeal to the unbeliever. Evangelism is done outside the walls of the church and then people are brought in. This is a big problem with modern “evangelical” Christianity.

Explore orthodox churches, these are churches that keep the traditions from the apostles and are the original church, the service is based around prayer and psalms and the eucharist, doing confession and taking communion, plus the way they look inside is like an amazing temple built for praise and worship, these protestant, charismatic/evangelical churches don't even have a cross to commentate our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ anywhere, yet they claim to worship him, I just hope for more people to realise that church isn't meant to be a rock concert and a ted talk

God led me to church 30+ years ago when the Seeker Sensitive movement exploded to save me from myself. Yes, risky behaviors ended, but I never grew spiritually, thus unable to move forward in my life, government-dependent. Recently, I woke up to the reality that even though I was making better choices, my pride and self-centeredness, fueled by emotionally driven messages and many other concerns, kept me from becoming who God created me to be. This church, driven to please people and my own poor choices, is a stark reminder of what I don't want to return to. Yes, this megachurch is changing, but much is the same as what I have experienced as what is presented in this video. Having watched this, I'm saddened and frustrated.

To Marcia, don’t feel frustrated. The Kingdom of God is within you. We were made to reach higher and Higher but remain rooted to the ground for now. You’ll be fine. Those who boast about THEIR church and their works are also trying to make it. The people aren’t “bad” people, they simply truly believe throwing a rummage sale or a barbecue will raise funds to help...who? How? If it turns into a Ladies Guild or some type of Association, people will not remain humble. There begins the control and power struggle: from where booths or chairs should go to how to price items and who’s gonna trash the left overs. People tend to make Homeowner Associations out of anything. Put up a row a cardboard boxes and see who will make rules for the use of those boxes. First and foremost: Guard your heart. Guard YOUR Peace and create within your Kingdom of God within you. No church or cult necessary.

@@christinesotelo7655 I assume you’re directing your question at me. For those frustrated or confused by concert lighting and sound, I always think of the tech person: where is someone gifted in tech going to use their gifts for the kingdom if not in the church? I’m a worship leader, and I’ve seen tech people worship from the tech booth - one hand in the air and the other on the lighting board, I’ve heard them whisper spirit-fueled prayers into our in-ear monitors before mixing the loudest church service you’ve ever heard, and I’ve seen them take what they do very seriously with humility and focus as their offering for Jesus. I agree with those who are saying church is for God and not for us, and I think many tech people would say the same.

A pastor who doesn't want to embrace the title of pastor is a concern/red flag for me. Though you can get a sense of how dedicated many people are, and well intentioned ultimately what are the people attending seeking? Especially when Ruslan asked about people living in sin serving in the church the answer was very vague. There was a time that this style of ministry was so appealing to me, and I helped create and served in a church with a similar mindset. But ultimately the "change" we were seeing in people too often was just an emotional and temporary response. Though I pray this church is reaching people and true salvation through Christ is found, too often we (and I mean all believers) take for granted that it's the power and simplicity of the Gospel that changes lives unto salvation. The Gospel doesn't need anything extra.

I was also concerned about this. I hear what he's saying and I at least appreciate that he understands the role of Pastor requires time, energy, and effort that he can't provide to 7,000 souls. I didn't see any lack of the Gospel message here. What I saw is a leader who is not concerned with titles and positions more than he is reaching people. The Church has far too many leaders who build their church around themselves. A pastor-centric church is not biblical and is the reason so much corruption and abuse has gone unchecked in the Church. True humility is sorely lacking and the Church has suffered greatly at the hands of leaders who elevate themselves over the congregation.

I simply avoid churches and walk with God in Nature. I don’t care for the loud noise like clanging cymbals and sounding brass yet no love to the homeless or mentally impaired or hungry or the person needing rent money help, etc. There are folks neglected to death in Nursing Homes, unfed children, a complete community of people who need visiting and ministering to. Well-placed furniture and whiteboards and drawings on whiteboards--save the money and go out and sit on the grass, gather people around you and pass out bread and water and let children sing. Pass your basket to them! I dunno. I just can’t relate to more Real Estate and expense. You could minister better at a very large Cafe and Soup Restaurant for the poor, offering hospitality and a warm place to go for awhile. Or not, I’m not a business leader. Do your thing.

The New Testament doesn’t provide a clear outline for how churches should conduct worship, particularly regarding music style or church settings. While the Old Testament describes how priests worshipped, we don’t see specific instructions for the covenant community we don’t see how songs were sung. This suggests there’s freedom in music style and worship expression, as long as worship is directed to God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit and if the words are biblical. The focus should remain on the substance of worship, not the style.

Those are one time purchases that last years or even decades (I’ve performed in the edge over a decade ago) a church with a 20+ million dollar budget, those expenses are minor and not recurring. Equipping small group leaders and making sure those groups are cared for is on going.

@RuslanKD a 20+ million dollar budget is amazing. I'm torn on this. I'd be lying if I said I felt great about building a concert venue and flashy things to attract people. I realize it's a very small ratio of the overall budget. It's just hard for me to believe, if Jesus was running a church that that's what he would spend the money on. I'm not against it necessarily, and if it truly does bring people to christ longterm, it's a win. Like I said, I'm torn.

@@ddff5242 Hey, your bring up a valid point. As someone who attended North Coast young adults for years meeting in the Edge venue (the super concert-ish one) I can say I have witnessed many lives of my peers and myself changed through that ministry. I totally understand how people can look at the venue and see how it seems way overdone, but as someone who has been in that room when hundreds of young adults are singing out to God with their hands raised in full abandonment is quite a moving experience. I know it's not for everyone and I think that that's actually a good thing, but I can say from personal experience it is a place where these tools are being utilized to move souls closer to God, all glory to him!

@the_behr that's amazing. Great to hear. My only push back on that is I have been in auditoriums full of thousands of people singing acapella with no sound system or lights and have had a similar amazing experience. Like I said though, if people are saved in that environment through that,ultimately, I'm all for it.

His point is that a Pastor, shepherds the congregation. Each venue, which is its own congregation, has a pastor. Each ministry has a lead pastor. Your small group has a leader or host. Those people shepherd the mass people. While he shepherds his own small group and the people on staff he's not the shepherd of everyone in the church. He's pointing out that a church of this size is has multiple shepherds cause you can only shepherd so many properly

I really appreciate that he said he wasn't a pastor to anyone, that he is a Teacher and a Leader to the staff. I don't know anything about their church, but this is something I've seen in megachurches in my own city, except most people don't make the distinction between Pastoring (Shepherding specific people) and Teaching/Preaching and Functioning as like CEO of the Church. I would like to see what the Shepherding looks like in the small groups...like how mature are the leaders, are they fully equipped to Pastor/Shepheard people at all stages of life. That's one area of larger churches where they just seem to forget that whole aspect of church. Shepheard a specific group of people, that you know, through different phases of their lives.. One of the issues I have with this age specific, and season specific groups is that there is not much continuity for the individual...

If God’s given you the resources to reach and accommodate so many, why not take full advantage of that for the kingdom?

@@hoplashosh North Coast has been my church for 20 years and you are incorrect. Fun is not the focus. Building relationships within the body of Christ and savoring the abundant life of Jesus with church community most definitely creates fun times, even for the persecuted church. North Coast is about our Father’s business. We are focused on being Light to the world thru generosity and service and using those opportunities to advance the gospel and Kingdom. Fun is a byproduct of our blessed life, and yes, not living in a persecuted state makes that easier, but that’s not our focus.

I was Born again and Regenerated under this ministry Easter 2021. Love Chris Brown, its amazing how he can keep his small church humbleness with this big of a mega church. I think what make Chris Brown different then the typical Mega Church Pastors, is his knowledge of the Bible. Chris Browns messages are very theologically sound, but at the same time, his message is easy to understand. God bless you brother Chris 🙏

Thanks for making this video, Ruslan! North Coast Church Vista has been our home church for nearly 20 years & my husband’s for 27 years (since he was 10). I grew up going to CC Costa Mesa. I love and respect both churches. We’ve seen a lot of families change churches over the last 5 years and we appreciate NCC’s stance that families need to go to wherever they are being fed and fueled best so their walk with Jesus is stronger. This video was straight about that-NCC is not for everyone. Some have said that the weekend messages are a little shallow compared to other churches and honestly it depends… sometimes there are ‘filler’ messages that maybe don’t hit as hard, but the majority are incredibly thought provoking and guide us into a deeper and closer walk with Jesus. The series are very intentional and planned out many months in advance. What we've experienced is the weekly messages and homework is the minimum for getting in the word, but as a believer matures, we start to be hungry for more. I honestly never thought I'd be one of those people who talks about that hunger for God's word, but it's an amazing thing when you just start with obedience & then before you know it, God has changed your entire being. We're excited for the newest series being more apologetics-focused, as we typically look to books & YT-apologists for that. It's all about what you consume, friends! I appreciate Chris being open about messing up or saying things that get taken out of context… I’ve seen this happen so many times in the last few years. Some instances have spurred a few families to immediately leave. What’s unfortunate in those situations, and probably just the nature of a big church, is that in each of those situation that I caught wind of and was equally concerned about, most do not lead in and talk with the pastoral teams before leaving. I was able to take a few issues directly to leadership for clarification and to verify the accuracy of what might have been said or done. In several situations, they were rumors on social media or amongst mom groups :( Most of the time, things are simply taken out of context. I’ve been able to speak with and have email communication with venue pastors and/or Chris. Some were hard convos about hard cultural issues, but they were willing to have those convos. The pastors heard our concerns, received feedback without pushback, always looked to the Bible for direction and asked that we join them in praying for God’s guidance in certain situations. I hope more church attendees do this when they have questions or concerns, rather than just leaving or (worse) spreading rumors. And I hope more churches respond in this way. We’ve been involved with Growth Groups/Life Groups at NCC for 20 years as leaders, hosts, and now just attendees (season of life with 4 littles!). Chris is spot on that THAT is where the church is. That’s where we truly go through life together with other families. And those are the people who show up with meals and ready to clean your house when your husband blows his knee out right before Christmas when you’re just hitting the 6 week pregnancy nausea and can barely keep it together. It’s those people who help bring purpose to your pain when you realize that something hard you went through and that God healed in you can now encourage them as they go through something similar. It's those people who celebrate the big and small gifts from God. It's those people who consistently pray for you and your family. It's those people who become like family--a family that constantly points you to Jesus. That's the church, friends. I could go on and on about the good things we’ve witnessed from NCC. The fruits are obvious and abundant.
