Regarding the first caller, Planet Fitness right now is overflowing with teenagers because they are running a program where teenagers can work out free for 3 months. I know it's a marketing strategy but at the same time, I feel like I have to praise them for trying to get teenagers to do something healthy rather than playing video games all summer.

You think Planet Fitness give a shit about teenagers health? 😂 they want to hook them in, tie them into a contract and take their money every month knowing that 95% will get bored and never go back.

Throughout the year, I’ve seen a lot of wannabe-trainer dads working out at PF with their sons. With the summer promo, I’m now seeing moms and sons working out. (And some of the moms are really kicking butt and giving solid advice to the boys.) Anything we can do to encourage this is great, even though I had to shift my workout time bc of all the extra activity on the weight machines during my usual time. (At $10 a month, you can’t be too picky.)

This is so true! I have never really enjoyed working out unless it was when I was playing soccer or the sports I loved. As soon as I switched to lifting and feeling strong, I began to change and love working out. I will never do running and all cardio again. I finished Anabolic a couple of weeks ago. I just started Muscle Mommy and dang! I'm so excited. The first day I was feeling the exercises where I wanted to feel them. Not that I didn't enjoy building my arms during anabolic, but the split squats and all the different novice exercises i did I was feeling them in the areas that i wanted to change or develop. So thankful. Three days a week is perfect for our schedule. Love what y'all are doing, you have changed my life. The scale hasn't moved and sometimes gone up, but my body comp is totally different. It's just life-changing. Thank you.

Rucking is more fun. I consider it Zone 2.5 cardio, and it also provides some hypertrophy on the deeper parts of the skeletal muscles like the hamstrings the glutes the upper back it also gives your traps quite a pump

How much weight do you carry, like what percentage of your body weight is it? And how far do you go? I bought a weighted vest that is 6% of my body weight, which I know is pretty light, but I feel that any heavier and I will mentally not want to do it because I'm not very cardio focused so I tend to be a little lazy about it
@drip369
@drip369 Ай бұрын
@@irisk934 I do it roughly once a week as a form of recovery because all cardio should be pumping blood throughout your entire body at a really good rate, which can help you create more vessels as well as more muscle because it will increase your work capacity which can increase your strength over time and it's not being done to the point that it's a workout. Firstly, I use barefoot shoes, and for the longest time I only had two different weight vests that worn together would give me 30 lb, yet I took a bar loaded vest, using my tailoring skills I made it into an adjustable plate loaded, reinforced to hold more than its 80lb max, and recently rucked a 5k for the local fireman training facility, with 50lbs on, secondly, with or without weight I still walk at 4mph and i enjoy 4-9 miles on a trail that's got multiple low grades uphill (it's an old railroad track route covered in shale). For me it's recovery. Full body is warm&loose, it takes away any DOMS and I often get DOMS in the traps from rucking, yet I fuel my muscles more nutrients creating more pathways to stay on my plans. If you don't like walking forget about my comment. If you change your mindset around LISS, then feel free to ask anymore questions
@drip369
@drip369 Ай бұрын
@@irisk934 will cardio has its purpose and value as a supplement via being a recovery method, which of course is a full body movement pattern that increases the blood flow to the entire body at the same time which can lead to more nourishment to the muscles, especially if they are sore, and that improved access for the blood can lead to improve hypertrophy and overtime improved strength. I myself use different forms of conditioning in cardio for recovery and rucking is one of them. Firstly, I do it in barefoot shoes on a shale covered railroad path, that's slightly changing through multiple grades, secondly, with or without weight I move about 4mph, using my hamstrings to pull my foot into the ground and my glutes to move me forward, and, thirdly, I've had two sand-filled vests I can wear together for 30lbs, and would go 4-9 miles, barefoot at 4mph, yet, recently, using my tailoring skills, I turned a bar-loading weight vest and converted into an adjustable plate-loader, reinforced to likely exceed its 80 lb max, and with it, two Saturday ago, for the fire company training facility I rucked an easy 5k with 50 lbs on. If you really don't like walking all that much, ignore my contextual answer, because this is a protocol I plan to grow over time, but, if you do change your mindset about increased blood supply, and therefore increased nervous system access, then feel free to ask anymore questions. You likely could handle 20-25%BW for 2+ miles, with a mindful breathing rhythm, and notice a stronger upper back in the squat or row.

I like to mix up cardio modalities. 1) 3x p/wk after full body lifting, I'll do three rounds of heavy sled push for one min with a two min rest. This gives a bit more leg volume and takes my HR to the red zone. 2) 2x p/wk I'll do 30 min of continuous stair climbing on non lifting days to maintain an aerobic base. Typically, my HR is in the 130-140bpm range. 3) I walk 15-20K steps every day year round, and I'll break it up over the whole day. This is what allows me to have a high maintenance calorie intake of 4500 per day.
