Nice intro to the service. I have been working on this and went the do it yourself route. It takes more time, but I was wanting to learn some more in the process and didn't mind. I have noticed that my information appears to be gone from the sites that I opt out - but if I do a google search it still has results that point to the sites that I opted out. If I click into them, they are gone - so it appears it is more of a search engine indexing. I figure you may be in a similar situation with the paid route, any idea how long it takes to get de-goggled? Just for reference, I started about 11/11 so it has been about a month. Currently opted out of ~75 sites ;)

What are your criteria to determine if a site or company is trustworthy?
@AllThingsSecured2 жыл бұрын
That's a really, really good question. And I don't think there's a definitive answer to that. A lot of people trust Apple. A lot of people adamantly don't. A lot of people trust trust Facebook. A lot of people adamantly don't. In the end, for me it's a combination of transparency, history and communication. In this case, I know who runs DeleteMe, they've been around for many years without issue, and they communicate via email and social media well. Until one of those breaks down, I'd rather put my trust there than in these data brokers.

Core Dream Studios; I suggest your friend put a security freeze on his Lexis Nexis/Sage Stream credit report and request a copy of your report, do it via certified mail, do not do it on the phone or online. Lexis Nexis/Sage Stream are collecting all public records from the courts to county records, and they supply this info to Transunion, Equifax and Experian. As for a felony I believe the law says they can only go back 7 years, so if its 10 years old you should have no problem removing it from lexis Nexis.

@diomedtmc21242 жыл бұрын
Do not use it. You have to give your information to them so they can “take it down”…really??? They take it down one month, then it’s back up in 3. You stop your subscription, and everything goes back online. Heck, they might even be victimizing you (like, what a “better business model” to collect the info under the guise of trust and then extort you to take it down)
@AllThingsSecured2 жыл бұрын
If that's your threat model, I'm not going to try to convince you otherwise. But for everyone else out there, "giving your information" that is already freely available on the internet is hardly scary. What's scary to me is allowing that information to remain out in the open.
@diomedtmc21242 жыл бұрын
@@AllThingsSecured Definitely, but Americans should wake up and get these privacy laws changed. I should have to opt in to my public facing internet record instead of some service scrapping it and doing it for me. Further, I should be in charge of its accuracy and the information it displays. Lastly, that listing should be regulated such that I can take it down just as easy. There should be a single source of truth that’s accurate. Not 1000 partially accurate fragments competing for a purchase of me!!! (isn’t it sick just saying it? - I never put myself up for sale. It is no better than Human Trafficking, and I believe - it’s all same people) Some might feel strange about this, but we really have done a crap job of updating our privacy laws to protect ourselves - EU has GDPR, and we have DeleteMe - a business!!! In fact, the only real privacy protection is for businesses, you know, those agreements we never read when using the software, but allows them to walk away guilt free and harm anyone they want. (And the victim becomes the one to blame) We can access information and each other too quickly for it to all be available to the world. (Whereas my mother’s “white pages” were out of date by the time it hit my doorstep, and it took 7 minutes to find just a name, blah, blah) Anyway, that’s my rant. I’ll quit bugging you, but I’d personally avoid this service and instead petition your congressman and/or senator. Also, if you have access, talk you your local law enforcement agencies to get an idea of how to handle such issues. Keep reporting to federal agencies, and then some!
@gloing2 жыл бұрын
@@diomedtmc2124 The only way it's legal for companies to post our private info online, is because we are given the option to opt out. It's a loophole, the system is broken. It would have been nice to mention what “Laws” (Federal or State) that empowers this service to remove data (in other words, I’m sure that sites/brokers don’t do this out of the “Goodness-of-their-hearts”). So if you (Josh) or anyone else out there can tell me what power (and/or Law) gives this company (or anyone) the “Right” to request/order companies to remove info then I’d be interested in knowing this (THANKS👍).

There is no single law and it changes from state to state; however if you ask a company to remove your info and they do not they are always going to do it so they don't risk getting sued. They don't care, they have billions of records and hardly anyone requests to stop. Sometimes they will do updates and re-enter your info and you will have to request it taken down again, but if you request they have to take it down in most areas.
