yes I've learned my lesson already. I stopped using Drano a long time ago. I bought a small snake for simple clogs.

Found this on a document on the net. It is estimated that about 76 million homes in America have cast iron pipes that must be replaced. These 76 million homes risk severe plumbing problems. At a low estimated average of $10,000 per home, we are talking about $760 billion of damages an repairs that need to be made. This makes cast irons a massive problem for insurance companies.

30, 60 and 90 days! Hmmm, I can't imagine Drano staying in the pipes for that long.

I've seen cast iron pipes with a huge hairball in then. On the sink side of the hairball the belly of the pipe was corroded to hell. Not the hairball. Try a shop vacuum, try a pistol snake.

the draino gets diluted so quickly in that belly. its a non issue so unless you poor it then go on vacation.... nothing will damage the piping.

Exactly. It's acidic. Especially when someone takes a shower everything will be neutralized with no issues,
@MessyPointedBlob9 ай бұрын
@@SupaTrendingDailyno, it's caustic, super basic rather than acidic. Either way lye is non reactive to cast iron, what causes damage is the water in the drano mixture which the pipe segments were left stewing in.

Why would you unclog a drain and then not try sending water through it? What does iron pipe look like after soaking in a 2% concentration of Drano for a day?
@sddirt684010 ай бұрын
Use sodium hydroxide and hot water. It works wonderfully
@psiewert839 ай бұрын
And this is why the instructions say to wash the drain out after 30 minutes........

My wife constantly clogs her sink drain in our bathroom and feels the need to give it a dose of draino every couple months. We have PVC pipes though
@RogerWakefield9 ай бұрын
why not get a catch all that will catch the hair before going down the drain?
@SteveO323210 ай бұрын
Drain O might only work at the P trap. In that case, just open up the P Trap, anything else, just use a snake.

so what’s the solution for a clogged drain? just snake it every time?
@RogerWakefield10 ай бұрын
Or a plunger…

in my sink? 🤨

Or use enzyme drain cleaner, a lot safer for pipes

My son used Drano (without my permission) in the second floor bathroom down the PVC pipes that connected to the old cast-iron pipe in my basement. and I had a major leak with Raw sewage leaking inside and outside of the cast iron knuckle in my basement. The saw sewage was up to half an inch high, off my basement floor! and I believe it was because the damage that was done when my son to use the Drano and those cast-iron pipes were installed between 50 and 70 years ago! I hired a plumber and he used (2) 50 foot detachable Milwaukee snake reels! He ran it over 75 feet since there’s no indication on the reels of how much snake he let out! but he ran it through once with the the teeth that you attach to the snake one on either side went through the first time cleaned out a little bit of Roots ran it through a second time with a different headpiece and when he pulled out came out with string, they came out with roots wrapped around 4 to 6 inches long around this three-quarter inch snake or half inch snake and once he did that everything went through and I haven’t had it any issues for a week but I’m sure within the next few weeks or months it’ll have to be cleaned out to get it eventually replaced but it’s a very expensive job to replace 75 to 50 feet of cast-iron pipe and to trench at 3 to 5 feet underground since I live in a very cold climate. It Hass to be a minimum of 3 feet below the frost line.
