The other day on Facebook under a post someone commented “I’m 9” and there were so many replies saying “me too” and I was shocked that no one was telling these kids to be careful. I replied “You should probably be careful with details you share online, especially Facebook.” I saw that someone else also replied to that comment and said something along the lines of “You are way to young to be on Facebook” and these kids were attacking him saying “all of my friends also have it” or just them trying to act more mature than they actually were. I feel like media awareness needs to be practiced more in schools, in 6th grade we did have a unit on that but not all schools do that and clearly kids are not getting the hint and parents are not being aware of what their kid might be doing online. I’m so grateful for what you are doing, I hope maybe the kids who do have unlimited access to the internet find your content.

I first got on the Internet at about the age of 8/9 ...in 1999/2000. 😅 But even though the Internet was slower back then it was still kind of dangerous. SO many creeps in Yahoo chat lmao.

Wow, I didn't even know young kids still use Facebook. Most of them are on TikTok and IG
@MaroonLemonade14 ай бұрын
@@sydsinternet the kids who aren’t given phones by parents can access it easier by their parents phones too, that doesn’t make it any better though Edit: most of these kids had actual accounts though, all you had to do was click and see their age school and city displayed 😟

People who show their car with their license plate is crazy. Even when people censor their own but show the plates of other cars around them is crazy. Normally these people are in the US so it’s so easy in either of these situations to know their exact state and when it’s clear that the creator lives in a city, sometimes there is only one city they could possibly live in. Also some people do have access to ways to search up people or their neighbour’s license plates and they can sometimes abuse that power.

I will never divulge my surname online. People ask why i have a fake name on FB and they think i have a fake account and I say it's because I don't wanna have to sh--t anyone. I'm not trying to sound hard or tough or whatever, it's because my nieces have the same surname as me and I do not mess around and deranged people DO exist and i take life seriously. Their lives above anyone in this world to me. My older niece tells my younger niece that if any one has a camera/phone around or tries to record her or take a phone/video (they're 10 and 5) to NOT put it online. Obviously im talking in the context of friends/family etc. My dad innocently made that mistake once when he put a video of my younger niece dancing to him playing guitar) on his youtube page not realizing it was literally public (he thought it was set to family or something) and he instantly removed it once we explained it. But we're all very keen about that shit. sorry abt the long comment

I feel like a lot of people (including myself) and especially the youngest generation were never taught about internet safety because we were expected to automatically be internet savy from growing up around tech. I am a new KZbinr and I've had a lot of reservations about sharing myself online because of the potential dangers and your internet safety series has helped so much. I'm so happy you are speaking up about this and helping people keep themselves safe 🩷

I'm living for this series! I've been making a comeback to socials after being stalked and harassed online and irl. Deleting everything for almost two years felt amazing but I realized during that time that I do want to be online. I agree! We must be careful with what we share online. I once googled my name and city and all my information such as address, number, and names of relatives were all on this website! Thankfully, there is a way to take off your information. Since then I deleted my linked in. I also refrained from sharing my first & last name when I had social media.

One example of less-than-ideal sharing I saw recently is saying you share a birthday/DOB with another person (eg. a celebrity or friend/family).
@peachxtaehyung4 ай бұрын
I may give my month and day of birth but I'm not giving my full dob
@gabriellegeorge26484 ай бұрын
If you say when your birthday is (day and month) and then say you're [x] years younger/older than someone, or you're the highschool class of [x] year then it's easier to figure out your date of birth. I think of kids commenting under those weird posts that are like, "tell me your birthday and I'll tell you your favorite color."
@peachxtaehyung4 ай бұрын
@@gabriellegeorge2648 yeah I never say I'm __ years older/younger than someone or what school year I am or that I'm in or out of school. Most I ever give is the month and day I was born and it's to those who want to be able to wish me happy birthday. I don't give any more info than that

I made many of these mistakes when I was younger and have improved significantly the past 4-5 years or so. Most of this seems like common sense, but so many have made and still make these mistakes. ❤

So much of this seems obvious, why would you state your city, your car, where you are while you're there etc? Like that's just asking for trouble. Especially if you're in a smaller city

I want to share something syd.. It was 2019 , I don't know who did that, I was 10th grade student with both Facebook and Instagram handle.. most of my school friends were in my friends list . One day one of my friend said that a boy in our class put my photo and made an account and had a conversation with a guy friend of mine. I was shocked. Somebody made a fake account with my photo. After that still now 2024 I'm still not comfortable posting my photo online freely. I want to be a model but you know what I'm still scared of these.. what if it happens again? And there are people who said go to cybercrime and all. But how? I was just a 16 yr old kid.. my mom dad is not supportive enough. Even after that I said my dad that this happened. He told me ' so what can I do? Go and study for exams and throw your phone away ' typical Indian parents.. CAN YOU PLEASE MAKE A VIDEO ON THIS TOPIC SOLUTION??
