Does Eyelid Tape Work for Hooded Eyes?

I didn't even know eyelid tape was a thing, but now I am intrigued! I think I might give it a try just to make my eyes look more "awake" because dark under eye circles + hooded lids = 'OMG, you look SO tired!' (lol) There is that weird factor of having tape on your lids...do you just get used to the feeling, or do you not really notice it once they're on? Is the adhesive pretty gentle/irritant free?

I don't really notice it once it's on. It's very comfortable. And I have annoyingly sensitive eyes. After my PRK surgery (vision correction surgery), it hurt to wear makeup, rub my eyes, open my eyes underwater etc. All of the callouses on the eye that I'd built up before that surgery were removed.

@@Phyrra Thanks for the info! I just had eye surgery a few months ago myself (cataracts) and my eyes have become so much more sensitive and dry.

@@stacyharvey1383 Did they prescribe you drops? I use Blink eye drops to help with the dryness.

@@Phyrra They didn't give me a prescription; they just told me to use a lubricating eye drop that was preservative-free if possible.

I am definitely going to try this! I love just a colorful liner sometimes and actually I can see going with metallic liners that would show up well.

Not being able to wear makeup over them is what stops me from trying them at all! Aside from the lid heaviness, the skin around my eyes is still in quite good condition, so I'll just continue to rely on makeup to "reshape" my eyes for now. But if I came into some money, I'd just go for a blepharoplasty!

A blepharoplasty is definitely in my plans for the future. And there’s apparently a type makeup works over that someone in the Phyrra Nyx group mentioned, so I’m going to look into that type!

Oh wow I had no idea they came in different sizes! This is a revelation! ETA: Eyelid tape also comes in a mesh type, I wonder if this would take to eyeshadow better? Something to try also would be placing eyeshadow on the lid and *then* applying the tape. You'd need to be a pro at positioning with that though!

I'm going to try applying eyeshadow and putting the tape on top and then sharing in a KZbin short! Yeah the positioning will be challenging.

The surgery is definitely in my plans for the future. I can't use smaller than 7mm eyelid tape now or it doesn't even get all my excess skin out of the way.

I have seen it used once in a youtube video, but didn't really think about trying it. But I'm intrigued. They may bug me too much, and sure I can deal with some pretty eyeliner days but I do like shadow.

I've had a few people tell me that they can wear their eyelid tape over makeup but I've tried it and it has never worked for me. When I asked them to share the brand they're using they never responded. I do love eyelid tape for minimal makeup days!

I sorta heard about eyelid tape before, but I didn't know what it was for or how it worked. Some days I like to do a dramatic wing and (soon) a dramatic lip, so I might give 'er a go.

My concern is wearing this tape on a regular basis will cause lids to sag wores

I genuinely don’t know how long term use impacts the eyes. Mine are very hooded and saggy and have gotten progressively worse every year.

So can this be worn with eyeshadow? Would you apply it after or before eyeshadow?

Like I mention in the video, you can't put shadow on top of this eyelid tape. I've tried Contours RX Lids by Design eyelid tape and they sell a special primer that is supposed to work on top of the eyelid tape, but it loosk really weird and really obvious with eyeshadow on top and did not work well. I'm going to test these eyelid tapes on top of eyeshadow this week and see what the results look like and I'll update in a KZbin short.
