If you picture a bunch of molecular paper stacked on each other it would make more sense, the reason people might be confused is since people simulate it with the paper still being the same size but stacked on each other. This is so you can witness it visually. The width would decrease drastically per fold the length would increase rapidly, you would need a microscope to see it theoretically if it did happen.

you supposed to double 1 to 2, 2 to 4, 4 to 8 that just folded 3 times I'm bad at english so I hope you understand lol
@thealchemist01 Жыл бұрын
Let me try to explain For simplicity let's assume the thickness of the paper to be 1mm. The thickness will 'double' when you fold it one time. Again to make things simple let's consider what happens to the thickness when we fold it 3 times. 1st Fold: 1*2 = 2mm 2nd Fold: 2*2 = 4mm 3rd Fold: 4*2 = 8mm So if we fold it 3 times it will be 8mm thick. Now if we do it in the way you said, If we stack 3 papers each of 1mm thickness what would be the total thickness? It would be 1*3 = 3mm right? Even if you double the amount, let's say we stack 6 papers each of 1mm thickness. The total thickness would be 1*6 = 6mm right? The thickness is still not 8 which is the total thickness that we get when we fold it just 3 times. If we use the equation in the video for this case it would be (1mm * 2)³ = 2³ = 2*2*2 = 8 I hope this helps you out. Feel free to correct me If I'm wrong😄
