The amount of people who complain about auto steer amazes me. And farm down here in the delta you use auto steer. It makes it more efficient any sized field from 10 acre to over 300 acres. The spray rig has auto steer. The combines have auto steer. And the tractors are all fitted with auto steer. Love the farming content and don’t stop using the globe it will make your job much easier.

My son uses auto steer to cut hay .The employees and myself don’t. Two weeks ago we made the 2nd cut of the new seeding. Full of weeds, we had to cut it.Our crop advisor said that that would solve the problem like you said. We have had a lot of rain and heat. Alfalfa and weeds love it.

So many times when the next generation takes over a family farm, they try and spend their way into the next century. You, Mark and Greg are spending wisely to make one aspect of the farm more efficient that can also be used for your cash crop operation which helps the dairy tenfold. I think that you are going in the right direction.

Alfalfa is a high protein forage and depending on it age high to good digestibility The weeds are poorer in both Depending on the percentage it may make a difference Forage testing would give you a good idea of the value of the forage One of the feeding advantages of tmr is consistent feed day after day The weeds may effect the consistency A heads up when changing feeds do it in a stepwise manner to allow for the rumen to adapt

Thanks for another interesting video in the hay field cutting. You were Asking about auto steer in the hay field. I am old enough that we didn’t have that. Think I would sure try it if not for the age situation. You hay field is looking pretty nice 😊. Nice time of the year for doing hay. Thanks for the video Kip. Take care. The Iowa farm boy. My one grandpa use to talk about that well broke team of horses. He said if they were broke good enough, you didn't hardly have to touch the lines until the end of the field. Well he was born in 1918, pretty sure it was after ww2 when they got their first tractor. A few videos ago, you mentioned something about breaking up an alfalfa field and probably planting it to corn next year. Thats something i completely understand, seems lile if you go with beans, you either have to raise the head up or send plenty of dirt through the combine because of the pocket gopher mounds. Small grain can be hit and miss with the pocket gopher mounds. With corn, atleast if theres mounds, you dont have to worry about the head as much. Whether it's the chopper or combine, they're still noticeable. As for how your grandpa would look at things, hopefully he'd see it as progress instead of being lazy. Im guessing that he went from milking by hand to using the back strap buckets, then to the step saver. All depending when they decided on the parlor.

Hello sir...asking a dumb question...with as many acres you cut yearly, how come you don't have a self propelled unit? I find it's much more efficient as usually cutting 12 to 16 mph I can average 24 acres a hr rather consistently. Running a w235 with sf1 auto steer. Keep up the great work!!!

I got a used green star setup last year for my 7530 with pottinger double mowers. Didn’t buy it for cutting hay but it is nice especially with kids along. Where I really like is spreading chicken litter or fertilizer and reducing point rows in contour strips.

NH center pivots center on the passes better than JD, the latter swing wider to the left, so you have to adjust for it, Autosteer doesn't very well. I prefer hands on with the mower. I never slow down on the turn around, and only have to reverse on the outside corners. After that, it's full speed turn arounds. But everyone is different, and you run how you know what works. Great looking alfalfa!

Can't beat the technology. Too bad I don't think it would work on our John Deere A maybe the 3020??? Maybe some day, auto steer would be interesting on our oddball shaped fields. Technology is pretty smart if it is applicable to your operation. I'd have to look into that, educating oneself is pretty smart.

@@KipSieglerFarming1 I went home to help 2 years ago, first time in years my fall vacation actually worked for harvest. I don't think I could run the combine anymore, so I was delegated to drive the only tractor left from the 80s, the 4050. The tech in farming these days is incredible, and I say that as someone that works in the computer industry, and has been since 1995.
