Want to START a business? Go here: skool.com/games
If you’re new to my channel, my name is Alex Hormozi. I’m the founder and managing partner of Acquisition.com. It’s a family office, which is just a formal way of saying we invest our own money into companies. Our 10 portfolio companies bring in over $200,000,000+ per year. Our ownership stake varies between 20% and 100% of them. Given this is a YT channel, and anyone can claim anything, I’ll give you some stuff you can google to verify below.
How I got here…
21: Graduated Vanderbilt in 3 years Magna Cum Laude, and took a fancy consulting job.
23 yrs old: Left my fancy consulting job to start a business (a gym).
24 yrs old: Opened 5 gym locations.
26 yrs old: Closed down 6th gym. Lost everything.
26 yrs old: Got back to launching gyms (launched 33). Then, lost everything for a 2nd time.
26 yrs old: In desperation, started licensing model as a hail mary. It worked.
27 yrs old: "Gym Launch" does $3M profit the next 6 months. Then $17M profit next 12 months.
28 yrs old: Started Prestige Labs. $20M the first year.
29 yrs old: Launched ALAN, a software company for agencies to work leads for customers. Scaled to $1.7mmo within 6 months.
31 yrs old: Sold 75% of UseAlan to a strategic buyer in an all stock deal.
31 yrs old: Sold 66% of Gym Launch & Prestige Labs at $46.2M valuation in all-cash deal to American Pacific Group. (you can google it)
31 yrs old: Started our family office Acquisition.com. We invest and scale companies using the $42M in distributions we had taken + the cash from the $46.2M exit.
32 yrs old: Started making free content showing how we grow companies to make real business education accessible to everyone (and) to attract business owners to invest or scale their businesses.
34 yrs old: I became co-owner of Skool.com to help the many people who want to start a business online do so.
Today: Our portfolio now does $200M/yr between 10 companies. The largest doing $100M/yr the smallest doing $5M per year. Our ownership varies between 20% and 100% ownership of the companies. Many of them we invested in early and helped grow (which is how we make our money - not youtube videos).
To all the gladiators in the arena, we’re all in the middle of writing our own stories. The worse the monsters, the more epic the story.
You either get an epic outcome or an epic story. Both mean you win.
Keep crushing. May your desires be greater than your obstacles.
Never quit,
Alex
FULL DISCLOSURE
I make content to make money - just - on a longer time horizon than most. I want to build trust with business owners so we can find the best ones and help them scale. And if they’re awesome, write them a check and go all the way as partners.

I’d say it depends on timing. Every wealthy person I know had kids in their 40s. They spent 20 years getting where they wanted to be and then had kids. We had kids in our early twenties and it’s tough. Paid $600 for them to register in school and it hurts. Took them on vacation and had to dip in to savings. Paid for a broken arm and braces. There’s a certain level where kids can make it harder to do the things you want to do because your torn between being the best parent or the best you. Sometimes those aren’t the same thing.

Did those billionaires have kids before or after they got significantly wealthy? Do they actually spend time with their kids? If the answer to both is yes then that means having kids would have costed them wealth in the long term. If the answer to both is no then that means having kids would not cost them wealth in the long term because they already have it and the amount they would spend on their kids is insignificant to their overall wealth and/or the time they spend with their kids is insignificant to their overall wealth. So I don’t currently believe this point is a good one. Please correct me if my thinking is wrong. Thanks

Its just prioritization. Personally knowing people at different parts of the income spectrum, each either with kids or without, ive found the most dedicated have multiple kids AND spend time with them. They just have more drive in their working hours, then spend the last few hours in the day with family. From personal anecdote, his point stands.

Exactly. The other thing is every single one of those at the top was male. Even if they have kids, they probably have a current or ex-partner looking after them. As a woman, with kids - Alex's argument falls flat.

Well that depends on a) what kind of parent you want to be and how the situation with your partner is. And b) how successful you want to be/ how fast you want to achieve that. - Benzos is putting a bigger focus on family rn, but he is only able to do so because he is able to delegate alot of work. His personal attention is probably only needed for strategic desicion mankind and the occasional (urgent) crisis situation. If you are needed for operational side of business it's a whole different ballpark. Kevin O leary says in multiple videos that his greatest regret is that he did not spend more time with his kids while building his business. But would he have have been able to get as succesfull if he had done so?

Hit the nail on the head. I am a woman with kids, running my own business. Couldn't put a lot of time into the business until the kids hit school. Not a lot gets done once they get home from school or when one of them is sick or on school holidays. They are my priority and that does mean that the business often has to take a back seat. Notice how none of the people at the top of the pyramid Alex showed were women. There's a reason for that.

Can someone offer me some advice on putting yourself or others first in life? What should be the ratio?
@edheldude
@edheldude Жыл бұрын
You always fulfill your needs first (unless it's an emergency). You cannot serve others unless your own cup is full. When it's full or overflowing, you can share from it. Most people try to help others from a self-serving place because they're needy. They're seeking validation, trying to please or manipulate, or compensate their wounded ego. If you're fulfilled when you're helping others, you can remove yourself from the equation and effectively focus on others thus being able to help them better.
@testing6753
@testing6753 Жыл бұрын
@@edheldude Thank you. A lot of the stuff you mentioned had applied to me. I was always putting others first from a place of yes from good heart but also from self serving places like guilt, a bit pathological sense of high morals and sense of validation and such. Ironically, this only made my resentment grow bigger and the relationships were ruined. I now realize there has to be a balance. I still feel a bit guilty just sensing all the selfishness and hypocrisy in myself and the world (how people believe we are good and some believe in "God" yet we justify everything we do for ousrelves only, not others and put no effort into makin the world a better place) But you are absolutely right. Thank you.
