Your "bomb cyclone" yell always makes a chuckle. So true...the local news around here made it like it was the end. Ended up with an inch of snow and wind..even with the "big snow amounts". One of the many reasons why the news is rarely watched around our house.

In the Cincinnati area it's known as " WHITE DEATH "!, ever since the blizzard of 1977 &'78. The talking heads on the news, make out like an inch of snow is going to cause the elderly to starve to death or run out of toilet paper. I've seen the elderly driving in a foot of snow without a problem, because they are the only ones who still remember what tire chains are for, and aren't a bit shy about using them.

My favorite Tesla meme is of the car on the side of the road charging off a Honda gas generator. Like if you feel compelled to lower yourself to do that, just buy a plug-in hybrid, you get the same overall functionality without having to embarrass yourself by charging on the side of the road cuz the engine'll do it for you while you can keep driving.

They're status symbols with a lot of built-in caveats. You see them and they get you to look and stare, sure, maybe a bit of envy when you think about how high fuel prices are, and then you remember that it only takes you about five minutes to fill your tank yet they have to find something else to do for an hour.

The Prius people were smug to when those came out. This old pot head hippie dude i know from a old job, his daughter bought a Prius. She would go on and on about the environment. Any how she bought that over priced piece of shit, three years into payments the battery took a shit and Toyota i want to say quoted her like $6k to replace it. I have another friend thats super cheap, he was looking between the Yaris and the Prius for his old ladies new ride. He worked out the math , his conclusion was if you paid the high premium for the Prius you would have to drive it damn near ten years to break even on the Yaris savings. The Yaris was $10k or $11k cheaper to start.

If you’re talking about the orange stickers that the State Police put on all of those cars, those aren’t to let people know they’ve been taken care of. They’re tow orders. Once the State Police puts that orange sticker on your car, you have so much time to remove it before tow companies can come and take it. And then you can retrieve it at your own cost. 😊

Also it depends on whether it's a newer model with a heat pump vs an older model with a resistive heater. The older models get more heat but far less range, while the newer models retain more range but heat pumps lose effectiveness the colder the outdoor temperature gets.

Had seen a video recently about charging EVs in really cold weather that the US is getting. The EVs all had the same problems, it took multiply tries at different charge points for the cars to be recognised and it took different amounts of time for the battery to be warmed up to a point where it took a charge.
@pyrioncelendil
@pyrioncelendil Жыл бұрын
It'll take even longer if he's set it to both heat the cabin and precondition the battery while he's away. Ultimately it's the recharge time of those things that makes buying them a fool's errand, because if it took an hour to fill our gas tanks, internal combustion engines would've never caught on either. If/when we get to the point that we can put a full charge into a battery in five minutes without killing its capacity in the process, then EVs might make some sense, but not right now. Like if you want to jump aboard the electrification bandwagon right now, plug-in hybrids make far more sense than pure EVs. The meme of hauling a generator and gas can in the trunk of your Tesla proves why it makes more sense to just have the generator and gas tank built-in to the vehicle such that you don't have to stop on the side of the road to recharge when your battery runs out of juice.

@@pyrioncelendil I don't think it will ever work, unless they start building cars with a Pantagraph, and put pantagraph lines above the roads. Teslas are fascinating, and how drivers don’t read the manuals or online tip forums. PlugShare app has community reported status of every charger, to report broken hoses, slowness, etc. The battery must be prewarmed to take a super charge, otherwise it’s slow to warm up. GPS navigation handles this for you, if you use it. Charges typically are 20-30 minutes to get enough juice to get down the road. Yes, Teslas have heat from the HVAC system, plus electric heated seats.
@tjroelsma
@tjroelsma Жыл бұрын
There are some video's another KZbinr did on this charging problem. He found out that even though the apps said all chargers were working at three! different chargepoints, the chargers themselves refused to charge his car, each one giving an error that pointed at an isolation leak. So it looks like the cables/charging plugs don't like the snow. That might be a small problem for EV drivers in winter EV manufacturers don't inform them about.

Bought my wife a new car as hers was clapped out. Interest rates suck bu wanted to get what she wanted as I do not want to get stuck with electricit one. As far as diesel vs gas for your truck, I got a diesel by default due to "shortages" I didn't mind when diesel was same as gas but man filling up hurts now.

The guy with the towing contract on the toll road is looking at all those cars as money in the bank. So glad I don't have to run that road anymore. The carnage in the winter time up through there is ridiculous.

Electric car in this weather😄😄😄, hydrogen and E-Fuel (synthetic fuels) that's the future. But nothing beats Cummins CAT Detroit Diesel, Diesel Power 🙂👍👍👍. The problem in the USA and Canada that the vehicles have no winter tires and snow chains, only all-weather tires because you can't get any further in such a weather.

I don’t have to deal with below freezing temps in Phoenix. But I do have a hybrid for local driving only. 5.7 in my Sequoia for long trips.

Yes they have heat but if you are low on charge and run the heater it really cuts into miles available to drive. If battery is warm enough to take a charge it my take an hour to get enough to get to next charger or could take 3-4 hours.

He bought a Tesla; why would he have the intelligence to learn how to back up a vehicle? More money than brains I reckon. Thanks for going to help Timmy Gentry!

It stunk you had to deadhead back to WI and were on the road on Christmas Day due to the fudge up in Baltimore. At least you got a paying load back to Baltimore. I also notice most of the vehicles that go 'off-road' in storms are AWD/4 WD vehicles.

Another thing teslas will warm the battery so that it can take a charge. It is common to be plugged in but not charging as it is preparing the battery to take charge

I guess the Tesla drivers were trying to improve the range by not using the heater? I wondered what the draw on the battery can be? I going to keep repairing my 25 year old diesel car and keep staying warm every winter. Take care out there man 👍
