After reading all the horror stories, I was expecting terrible terrible pain, but it wasn' that bad for me. Idk if this is comforting or just more scary, but everyone is different. You might experience pain, you might not, the only way to find out is to have it done. Hi ladies, I just had my 4th Mirena removed & refitted... my tip for you all is this: take a strong pain relief at least 40 minutes before the procedure. Next when the process starts - breathe deeply, think meditation / yoga - go to a quiet place in your head. Trust your body - remember deep breathing can get you through childbirth. As the Mirena procedure is working in the same senitive areas, breathing deeply will really help relax your insides. Good luck ladies & be gentle on yourselfves when its over 😚

My wonderful obgyn told me to cough as hard as I could as she inserted it, and it was the best thing ever, I couldn't feel the sting for the first seconds or so, giving her time to get it in place and do some of the painful stuff, and in hindsight I really wish I'd kept doing that for a while longer. The worst part imo is having the legs spread apart when the cramps and pressure starts, I just wanted to roll over on my side and walk around, and I wasn't allowed to get up as she thought I was gonna pass out x)

I’m scared because I don’t want a IUD, I never did but with my Endometriomas it’s this or surgery and my doc said they may not even do surgery till I try this and honestly, I’m more comfortable with surgery, I hate being touched, I’m 17 and I haven’t had a exam and I feel like the two options suck and I’m just so upset, I’m not even sexually active so if this IUD doesn’t take away my pain then it’s useless and I have to get it taken out, ALSO! If I get it, I have to wait like a year of pain or anything to see if it works before doing surgery if needed

Suzanna Russell girl i feel this. i use to end up in the ER all the time with my cramps and they haven’t found anything but i’m CONVINCED its endo. the doctor in the ER said to try mirena because it would stop my period and is more effective for women with endo or bad period cramps. I had been on the pill for about a year and a half and it was useless. my mom was very against it at first but once i turned 18 there was no way i was going to continue putting up with the pain so i got an IUD last month in oct. the insertion for me was so horrid i threw up. over a month having it now and i’m doing okay. i get random cramping but it’s nothing an advil can’t fix. i don’t bleed anymore and don’t have a period. i’m 19 and so far this is the most effective thing i’ve tried! definitely give it a shot and if you’re scared, speak up! that’s my biggest regret cause i endured so much pain that could have been lessened. if it’s not for you, get it taken out but definitely give this a shot before surgery!

I am now at home dealing with the cramps with some pamprin and a heating pad and I am fine. My physician was knowledgeable and answered all my questions and I felt fine. I am just getting home from failed insertion. It hurt like hell. I was in tears. The pressure was unbearable and she tried 3x and I was begging her to stop. It literally felt like someone was ripping my uterus out of my body. I have had 2 back surgeries, a tummy tuck to remove 17lbs of excess skin from weight loss and a breast reduction so to say my pain tolerance is above average would be adequate. I would have all 3 of those surgeries done at the same time before I’ll ever think of attempting an IUD again. To say that there is cervical resistance is an understatement. I did 2 pills the night before to ripen my cervix and 600mg of ibuprofen and a Valium 40 min prior and it was still torture. No thanks.

My experience was nothing like any of the comments I’m reading! I expected severe pain. I watched reaction videos, read experiences, and had been told by friends it was the worst pain they’d ever felt. I didn’t do anything to prepare. No ibuprofen. Wasn’t given a cervical block. Nothing like that. So I was sure it would be excruciating. My insertion was painless. I felt a little pressure. But that was it, not even any real cramping. IDK about everyone else, but the procedure itself was not bad at all for me. The cramps that came a few minutes after were excruciating. Approx time for sounding: 10 sec. Approx time for insertion: 5 sec. Take a pain killer BEFOREHAND to avoid major pain after and take DEEP BREATHS during the procedure!
@xena4396 жыл бұрын
I would rate the pain a 7/10. It does hurt a lot but the deep cramping only lasts about 10 seconds. It was enough pain to make me grimace, but not scream or cry. It's a good idea to take the rest of the day off to relax because more moderate cramping continues throughout the day. Mirena has made my extremely heavy periods stop so it is definitely worth it.

I told my mom it was a close second to my kidney stones and thankfully I still had painkillers left over to help me through it. I was told just to use some ibuprofen and that was it. I have no freakin clue how you guys do it with just ibuprofen. I couldn't walk. It was worth it though! I'm 25 and mine will last 5 years so I'll be about 30 by the time it needs to be removed. Perfect age to decide at that point if I want to have kids. If you're still on your parents insurance (like me) and it's about to run out by age 26, I'd do it. My doctor told me I have a ridge in my cervix that made things difficult so he tried to go in, couldnt, and had to dilate me. Then the actual insertion took place and I swear I felt the IUD arms expand in my uterus. I have never been more aware of an internal organ in my life. Right after the procedure, the pain was gone. Just like that. Had some very mild cramping and spotting but my regular period cramps hurt way worse than what I experienced post IUD insertion. My butt hurts from clenching so hard, and I tried.. I really tried to relax but god it hurt so bad. The process of insertion honestly was traumatic. It was blinding.. literally. The weirdest thing about it though is that.. I mean yeah I had some brutal cramping for a few seconds after the IUD was placed but then the pain was just gone within seconds. I haven’t really had any pain or cramping since. It didn’t make sense to me that I went through that hellish pain and then it was just gone.

I just got mine done today. These comments are very validating!! LOL It hurt like the dickens and made me light headed and queasy. The 600 mg of ibuprofen taken an hour before did NOTHING before and after. I had a lot more errands to do so I did a lot of walking which helped distract me, but only if I kept moving. Now this evening with 400 mg of ibuprofen and two hot water bottles, it now just feels like bad period cramps. I'm excited to not have to worry about getting pregnant, though! 10/10 would do it again. 😂

I have fibromyalgia so my whole body is always tense just because that's how fibro is and I've had it for over 10 years. I tried to get it last week but my cervix just wouldn't budge open, so they told me to come back later and take a pill to soften things up down there an hour before my appointment. But yeah I screamed at the top of my lungs and it hurt horribly. I feel like there isn't enough representation of what it's like for people with different chronic pain illnesses, like endometriosis and fibromyalgia. It definitely hurt like hell! Happy others in this video didn't have that experience, but yeah it felt like falling crotch first on an ice pick. I had a really intense vasovagal response, my arms, hands, calves and feet all went numb and my entire body was sweating intensely. I curled up in fetal position and sipped a sprite for 10 minutes before I could get up and walk around. I bet it will be worth it, I just wish there was more information about what to expect when you already have chronic pain.

Have you ever got a cut on your finger or any other body parts with a knife????? That pain is similar to the pain to feel at the time of mirena insertion. Pov: did this made clear about the kind of pain during the insertion of mirena????

My IUD insertion did not hurt at all 😐, the only thing that was SUPER uncomfortable was the speculum opening my vagina. I honestly believe if you’re super tense during the whole procedure, obviously you’ll feel triple the pain than it really is...

Got my Mirena IUD today. Wanted lighter and easier periods. - Took 2 Advils 1 hour before procedure. No other medication. - Went on 3rd day of period. - Didn’t bring anyone with me. - Painful 3sec burning sensation on insertion of both the initial sonogram stick and then the clamp thing to open up vagina. - Uncomfortable crampy pressure that increased when sonogram stick and clamp thing reached some kind of wall. - The pinch was just another kind of uncomfortable pressure for me. Not painful. - So far feeling crampy and like I need to sit on the toilet and either poop or menstruate. A little bit of nausea. Update 5hours later: - Cramps have definitely ramped up after Advil effect. Taking Advil again. Update 24hours - Advil helps. - Get bad cramps for an hour. It settles down for a couple, and then they start again. - Spotting.

The hardest part for me was definitely the clamp they put on your cervix. The measuring/insertion I didn’t feel because of the clamping pain

I wish the video had a more broad spectrum of experiences, I’m sure majority of women’s experience is cramping, short pain. But thought I’d share mine too. I had an iud inserted 8 weeks post partum, the dr had a lot of experience inserting them but I reacted poorly. I passed out and threw up post insertion (I had delivered my daughter naturally so generally high pain tolerance) The week post insertion I was in a lot of pain, cramping, barely could walk at times but got used to it. One year later: I got PREGNANT with it in, the IUD perforated my uterus, I miscarried my baby, then had to have laparoscopic surgery to remove the IUD because it had migrated from inside my uterus to up by my belly button.

These reviews don't fit how my experience was at all. The insertion isn't a walk in the park for everyone. It took much longer than 15 seconds. I had a full conversation with the MA about her birthday while the intense cramping started. Never had I had cramps that bad. I was given a med to help relax the muscles and took ibuprofen for pain but I didn't believe either did anything. The cramps were off and on for the next three days.

So I’m just saying if anyone is watching this video and is about to get an IUD insertion I promise you that most these videos are just going to traumatize you before you go get it inserted because before the night of me getting my IUD I watched many KZbin videos about these people saying they cried and screamed it was the worst pain of their life but if you take at least three ibuprofens if you go in there with a positive and strong mind like hey this is totally worth it it’s five years of birth control I’m going to be OK trust me it will all work out I came to the hospital and since this whole corona thing my mom couldn’t be in there with me so it was very stressful on my hand and I’m also 16 but when I got into the room and talk to the doctors about it they were extremely helpful and caring and they talk me through it I got the mirena which is a bit bigger than the Kylenna When you get onto the bed the doctors made me feel super comfortable they were just super caring and they were there when it you know I was shouting not loud I just said a couple swearwords and I just felt like too cramps just too cramps that’s all just too painful cramps and it was over with so no you’re not gonna scream and cry you may if you have a very high pain tolerance and if you don’t take ibuprofen but if you take ibuprofen it’s still kind of have a high pain tolerance trust me everything will be OK just take a deep breath go in there strong knowing that it will all be OK

The insertion of the iud is not what hurts! It's the tool called the tenaculum that hurts! They use it to pierce the cervix to hold it in place but it doesn't have to be used in most cases! I had the copper iud placed without it and had no pain!

I got mine today and was hopeful that it wouldn’t be too bad. I was very very wrong, I took painkiller, which was all they recommended before the procedure, and it was still the worse pain I have experienced in my life. The insertion wasn’t the worst of it, it was bad but i definitely was not prepare for what came after. My cramps were so severe I started sweating and almost passed out, I turned white as a ghost and then got cold and could not stop shaking the entire time. Thank god my bf drove me to the appointment because there was no way I would’ve been able to drive myself anywhere. We got home quickly and I took a lot more painkillers and prayed to god for the pain to go away (I’m not even religious) and finally after what felt like hours (it was only actually like 30-45min) the pain subsided. Now I’m laying in bed terrified the cramps are slowly going to come back. If the insertion was anything close to what labor feels like there’s no way in hell I’m having kids. Anyways good luck to anyone considering this option, I personally wouldn’t recommend it unless you have a doctor who’s prescribed cervical block/softeners

It's honestly some of the worst pain I've been in, I'd heard some scary stories from friends and I have a pretty high pain tolerance and I'd seen content like this but I was not prepared at all for the extreme cramping afterwards.

It’s interesting that everyone has different experiences regarding the pain during the insertion and the cramping afterwards. I had mine fitted yesterday, both the insertion and the pain I have been experiencing afterwards has been an absolute nightmare. My cramps are much much less now and just feel like a bad period. Thanks to the painkillers I’m taking. But yesterday when I walked out of that clinic I could not stop crying, I was rocking and writhing in pain. I had never felt such intense pain before. I’m happy though, as long as it doesn’t move out of place and cause problems then I’d do it again, but I would definitely take something before going in next time, and I’d definitely choose a different doctor.

I was given one pill to "relax" my cervix, other than that I had nothing else. The pill did not help at all in regards to opening my cervix or making it easier to keep it open. My OB tried for an hour to get it in before I finally asked to pay 300$ for a cervical block, it was excruciating to begin with and the cervical block was also excruciating while it was happening and finally it was able to go in. It was expelled from my body not 6 months later, also extremely painful, so much so I had to go to the emergency room. It's not always sunshine and daisies!

I got mine day before yesterday. Man guys, I can honestly say I've only had one other experience in my life that was more painful than that. It hurt so bad! It took a while to complete, and the doc apologized and said mine was more difficult to place than usual (I'm guessing because my uterus is tilted). When they walked out of the room after it was done so i could get dressed, I just started sobbing. I couldn't help it. Nobody had told me to take pain meds before, so I hadn't taken any. Believe me, I defintely will next time. I'll probably even request a very strong one from the doctor just to be sure. I had an hour long ride home after, and it was a pretty painful and crampy ride. I was so happy to get home and lay down. But the good news is I'm only two days into it and the cramps are getting better already. No spotting or anything yet. I will say that even though it was excruciatingly painful, I would do it again because the reason I got it is to hopefully regulate my cycle so I don't have periods that last 2+ months long. Anything is better than dealing with that. But yeah, it hurt terribly. So brace yourselves. And if you're a lucky one that barely feels it, I'm very happy for you. Yikes.

I had 2 babies prior to getting mirena. The day of insertion I found out I had endometriosis. I will agree with everyone you cramp for days after then you feel bloated and blah. I'm going on 11 days now. I have had light bleeding since. And nice warm baths with epsom salt seems to help relax my muscles. My obgyn said mines good for 8 years I just hope that I'm part of the 40% of women who will no longer have a period.

Short answer: yes, like hell. 1g paracetamol and 1g Ibuprofen still made me cry and scream. And you can't move. Got it and right after blood pressure droped and I blacked out. Oh, I also got panick attacks from my body rejecting it's presence there. Worse weeks of my life. I was miserable. Removed it and am now on pills. If you have sensory sensitivity HAVE A TALK WITH YOUR THERAPIST AND DOCTOR FIRST!

For any teenagers, I had a different experience than the people in the comments. I’m 17 and JUST got my IUD YESTERDAY. Being completely honest, it is NOT the worst pain in the world and because I am a virgin, it even took slightly longer than normal. BUT, I had my mom talk me through it and the most pain was on the outside not the inside. I PROMISE it is not terrible. I only have very minor cramps afterwards and not having to think about taking a pill everyday is a relief.

I am a family physician and I have undergone the IUD procedure and I also perform the procedure in the office. My experience was 8 out of 10 pain during the insertion, but cramping afterwards was not bad. I cried during the procedure because the sounding or measuring part of the procedure was not successful. It took 3 different doctors to try the insertion. Was a horrible experience. So, my experience in performing the procedure is every woman is different. Some hardly feel anything and others nearly pass out from pain.

Just got it today and it did not hurt whatsoever, it was only slightly uncomfortable. Ask your doctor what their policy is on insertion. Many will force the cervix open if its closed and that’s when people will experience awful pain.
