I remember watching your videos before medical school and now I've just matched for residency this past month. Time has flown by.

For mainland MD’s it usually doesn’t matter, but better schools often have better resources 💪

so do you think regarding being able to choose a "top tier" residency or even specialty matching, is where you go for medical school a significant factor?

What you are saying about going to Harvard, Stanford, or University of Washington applies more to MD PHD students than regular MD students.

Hey doc, there are some issues I was hoping you could shed some light on. Up to now I thought med school ranking does not matter that much when it comes to matching for competitive residencies. Biggest factors listed were USLME scores, letters of rec and personal statement. Med school rank did matter, but on a moderate to low amount. However, now step 1 is a pass/fail, and I have been hearing rumors that there is this unspeakable bias for top med school applicants and that it matters more than one thinks. I'm at a crossroads pretty early on right now: I'm a graduating high school senior with the option to attend Stanford undergrad with not much financial aid, or an accelerated BS/MD program for New Jersey Med school with a full ride for undergrad (no option to apply out). Do you have any suggestion as to where I should attend? Stanford would open doors for me, and I can for sure get into a higher ranked med school with the regular route, but I'm not sure to what extent it helps in regards to the field of medicine. I'm looking to work as hard as I can wherever I go, but I hate the idea that I would be missing out on resources and better chance to match in competitive residencies later on.

oh hey, i remember you. i will be attending a "low-mid tier" us md school, and research opportunities is the big thing that worries me. i would like to go into a surgical specialty, and in the past, most applicants who matched have like 5+ publications. i know its not going to be impossible to do at my school. but if i had been accepted to a bigger research institution (esp at big name school) i wouldnt have to worry as much.

Does doing extremely well on the STEP 1 exam overlook an applicant's status as an IMG and allow for a greater choice of specialties to get into during residency?
@CXY965 жыл бұрын
Ryan Razzak It certain helps, but not much. Residency directors will look at MD, then DO, then IMGs. You’ll want to make sure to apply to as many programs as you can, and don’t expect too much from the match process.

I disagree. one only needs to look at residency match lists to know where you go to medical school absolutley matters
