Thanks for a look at the comparison of these two using a small pot. I may be wrong on this, but I think that the Pocket Rocket works better on small pots because of the smaller diameter burner, which probably doesn't cause much heat to wrap up over the edges of that pot. I'd really like to see the same comparison using a larger pot (like a bush pot). I think that there may be a better flame pattern and more focused heat with the jetboil stove under a wider pot base. Just curious about that.

Thank you brother, I have both systems. All though I use and like both, I tend to use the MSR pocket rocket most, I like its simplicity, ease of control, super light and and less bulky. I will look at the jet stove piece.

But if u wanna boil water with a jet boil u wouldn’t use the pot stand u would use the whole system as Intended and boil water even faster so I appreciate the comparison but it’s intended use (pot stand) is for cooking

That pocket rocket is sweet, don't do a lot of camping but that looks like a great backup for when power goes down. You can at least cook something in a pinch.

I have had several black outs here in DFW Texas do to weather. We used our MSR Rockets in the kitchen to heat up beverages and main meals, one rocket for each for several days. Bomb proof IMO.

@@alancarter4270 How long does the fuel last?
@alancarter42705 жыл бұрын
@ThisisPrettyLongName We used the large canister. Used it about 3 days. 6 times to heat a 2 cup stainless water kettle and 6 times to heat ready made meals we premade in pint jars. Run time for use was between 4 - 5 minutes. We now use the Butane canister single burner Mr. Stove, we get about 2 - 2-1/2 days and is more conventional for wify.

chalk and cheese pocket rocket is a focused flame spread into a narrow pot take the wide spread jet boil on a narrow base and you loose heat put it on a wide base kettle you will see the speed jump by at least a minute

What was the drip coffee system shown in vid? Have tried a lot of these things ...never happy. Your system w/filter seemed to drain quickly through the filter ie. not go cold before finishing brewing. How long did it take to brew for how many scoops of ground coffee....how much water? Thanks

Hey let's face it, any of those burners is going to boil water pretty fast. It's a useless comparison. What I ALWAYS have issues with when I'm actually cooking in a pot or pan is temperature control. So, if you wanted to do a useful comparison, you could have checked to see which one simmers best and has better flame regulation.
@Coltron_Actual5 жыл бұрын
For the cost, I'd venture a bet that the MSR is still better at flame control than anything Jetboil. Any of Jetboil's stoves with a regulator are drastically more expensive. But I think the best for the lowest of simmering, is a $20 Primus classic trail stove, it's heavier than the MSR, but it is shaped like a small kitchen stove burner, and isn't a "rocket" or "jet" at all, so you won't get a hot spot in the center of your cooking pot.
@walkerone98335 жыл бұрын
I agree but also worth mentioning much more susceptible to wind blow outs. Best to plan on using a wind screen. @@Coltron_Actual
@dhands1005 жыл бұрын
I agree. If the Jetboil is the older version it was advertised as having an "adjustable " burner. If it is the newer one it is touted as a "boil only" system. The purpose of the pot support in the broadest sense is versatility, how about a test on each stove with a broader pot/pan then try to simmer on each, maybe make an egg or something. In particular I think that it would be interesting to see if that could even be pulled off with even a new flash burner at all. Thanks for this video.

Hey Aaron! Give the Kelly Kettle a try brother. I think it's more of a campsite tool as opposed to a lightweight hiking option but I was just given one by a friend and I'd love to see what you think of it. I got the Ultimate Scout kit, the kettle itself holds 1.2L of water and boils it pretty fast using only the natural fuels found on the forest floor. Cheers mate, hope you and your family are keeping well.

Kiwi Comanche I’ve seen what your talking about people seem to like it but I have a pot and it cost much less also idk just not for me but if people like it cool looks well made and does the job just seems like it’s more than needed.

Are you able to use the jetboil pot with a different burning element like the pocket rocket? My thought is to use the jetboil minimo as my primary cooking system and have a small standalone stove as a backup on the off chance the jetboil burner ever failed in the Backcountry. Thanks!

A bit too many disconnects planning wise plus inconsistencies topic-wise. Seamingly the intro notion or needs had prefaced on trying to achieve boiling something with larger capacity/volume on a Jetboil using the optional pot adapter accessory vs. the integral jetboil flux-ring pot in original configuration. Somehow the subject matter loses focus... drawing conclusions from a Stanley cup w/ limited surface area, poor stability as well as adaptability, plus about as inefficient a design available for a boiling container. Food for thought... I had totally the opposite results performance wise using a 750ml TOAKS titanium pot. This video needed more proving ground examples while remaining consistent with the reasoning of adaptability when using the stand for larger pots --- some with and some without the flux-rings could be options. This is not a put down... it is just that your work is not done yet. Flame control, flame protection, and simmer could also be reviewed in better detail preference wise.

Normally I find your videos very informative and enjoyable. However, this video was pointless and a waste of time. You begin and end the video talking about or inferring using a large pot. Then you conduct a comparison test using a Stanley pot. That’s just nonsense. If you own a Jetboil, why would you use a Stanley pot first of all. Secondly, why not do the test with a large pot like the one you’re holding in the video. It’s like comparing apples to oranges and grapefruit. That last sentence might not make sense to you but that’s the point. Neither does the comparison in this video. Maybe you could do another video using the large pot that you’re holding in the video. You can clearly see just by looking at the 2 different stoves that the Jetboil is going to be at a disadvantage in this comparison before you even conduct it.
@gideonstactical5 жыл бұрын
Uber Jim in DC I am sorry you didn’t like the video. Not everyone can be a winner I guess. I used the Stanley to see what the smallest diameter pot the jetboil stand could handle. I believe the test is fair.
@uberjimindc6135 жыл бұрын
I don’t believe the test was unfair just unnecessary. I don’t understand why you would start the video talking about a larger pot then don’t test a larger pot. If you own a Jetboil, you’re not going to use a Stanley pot. You’re going to use the Jetboil pot designed to work with it. Your last video comparison with the Jetboil convinced me to buy one. I didn’t think it was worth it before that video. Using a larger pot would be the only logical reason to buy that otherwise useless $8 accessory. So why not do a comparison that justifies buying extra stuff? Why not do a comparison usually larger pot? Why not answer the question you, yourself, asked at the beginning of your video? How does the Jetboil burner compare to the MSR Pocket Rocket 2 when you cook with a larger pot?
