I confessed to a girl in high school at graduation. Though she didn't answer yes or no. Later on she gave me a call and we met up again. She said she'd only willing to answer yes if we both finished college. Have a job and have a stable life. At that point in time I thought im here for a long run.

@@BloodDragoon i would say that sounds wise if you start a relationship in highschool/college you have basically zero time to spend on that relationship and they almost never work out if she says after college that sounds to me like she wants to make it work but is scared to start the relationship now because she wants a stable relationship

3:51 I actually have a cousin who married a girl he was friends with since kindergarten, so I guess the childhood friend trope does happen, it's just really rare, which isn't surprising because staying in contact with friends from kindergarten is hard in general, but being fair longlasting high school romances aren't super common in real life too and that also is a common trope in anime so at least the medium is consistent in choosing improbable romance tropes for the sake of a good stories

lol, I was actually friend zoned by my late husband first. He was my bestie and I had such a crush on him but he was still married but going through a rough divorce. A few months after his divorce was finalized I saw how much of a rough time he was going through and waited a bit longer. Finally when things mellowed out I got the nerve to confess to him and a year latter we got married. His proposal is a story in itself but then a little over three years latter I lost him to cancer.

I've met people who married childhood friends, so that is a real think (at least in US/UK). I've been married 27+ years and love rom-coms (but always feel bad for the odd one left out in a triangle...why I loved Girlfriend, Girlfriend) and yes, it gives you unrealistic expectations of love. But so do all non-anime rom-coms. There are as many ways to start a couple as there are stories in anime. Just celebrate the joy of romance. Oh, secret favorite romance is from two older ones, His-Her Circumstances and Eureka 7. Just liked both couples and their development. Well, that and the OG romance, Rick Hunter and Lisa Hayes.

I would say anime doesn't give you bad or unrealistic expectations because those characters are not you. yea I'm pretty bitter and grim on the topic of romance. I guess it's that dying alone is in the back of my mind when thinking about it. I'm just gonna close with the obvious that anime romance doesn't work in the real world, the best you can do is lift your chin up, shoot your shot and plan for rejection, really, if I see someone rejected they often don't know what to do with themselves, there wasn't a plan

I think i have 3 childhood friend and I didn't know what their feelings to me 2 girls me and the gay one the team I was 15 that I realized their a attempt on telling they like me I was like five or something so what expect ok to continue the story theirs a dragon the princess and I realized the superman is my dad and Batman is my gay mother with her friend Chad that also a transgender that also an alien that wanted to destroy planet for them stealing his cheese cake.

I always dreamed of being something like that likable but also can be that hero to protect my friends if necessary. anime only give me those dreams of maybe one day it may come true who knows. if there's another life after this one kind of idea.

I've never been rejected, I've also never confessed. Atleast you had the courage to confess lol. That's a W in itself. Especially after having been rejected before. Eventually we'll find what we're looking for. We just have to make sure we don't fixate on an idea of something happening that afterwards wouldn't have been the best that could happen in the first place. In other words, your desires are understandable, but don't let them turn into obsession that cloud your rational thinking.

I don't think the romantic type of love is special. And I am started to think that the romantic type of love isn't real. I mean about more than half of romantic couples either break up with each other or divorce each other, while most platonic best friends remain friends until death. I think that having a platonic best friend is a lot better than having a romantic partner or spouse is. Having someone who's like a sibling to you is a lot better than having a romantic partner or spouse. Also, you are more likely to be much more closer to someone who's like a brother or sister to you than you would be with a romantic partner or spouse. People tend to fight with their partner or spouse a lot more than they do with a platonic best friend, and you never fight with your best friend the way you fight with your partner or spouse. Partners and spouses are just temporary. If you break up or divorce them, it's hard to go back to them. With your platonic best friend, you're going to make things work, because they are your best friend, they are your go to partner. It's always easier to make amends with them than it is with a romantic partner or spouse. Also, there are a lot of toxic romantic relationships, while there isn't that many toxic platonic relationships. Like an example is that abuse happens a lot in romantic relationships, while abuse is rare in platonic relationships. So there is a lot of abusive romantic relationships, while there is isn't that many abusive platonic relationships. Why do you think abusive romantic relationships have a term for them called "domestic violence", while abusive platonic relationships don't have a term for them? It's because abuse in platonic relationships are very rare, while abuse in romantic relationships happens a lot. And also, a lot of people cheat on their romantic partners with someone else, while most people won't do stuff like that with their platonic best friends. Also, I heard that most people can live a life without romance and can still be happy. But most of the time, if someone doesn't have any platonic friends in their life, it can effect them really bad mentally; much worse than living a life without a romantic partner. In today's world, less people are dating and getting married now, and they seem to be more happy being single rather than being in romantic relationship with someone. Also, you're going to have a much deeper spoken understanding and connection with your best friend than you are with a romantic partner or spouse. So those are other reasons why romantic love isn't real or special, while platonic love is.
