Does matching number matter for cars? Do you think it is case by case??

I had a 1964 Malibu SS in 1972. I believe it had a 283. It was worn out despite the fact that it had less than 100K miles. I bought it for $300. At the time I was a commercial fisherman and I'd haul my catch in the back seat in plastic burlap bags. For some reason, no one ever wanted to ride with me. :)

Makes no difference for 95% of ppl. It gets you more points at shows and affects value in an appraisal a bit.

Been in the used car business all of my life . Even when the 1964 Chevelle came out I don't think Chevrolet ever made a 6 cyl. Super Sport in anything

I’m a mechanic and love cars. Never saw an SS with a 6 cylinder.

Starting in 1965 the SS package was available on any engine and transmission setup on the Chevelle. From the GM archives.
