Once I get the seat time, definitely want to join my club’s “travel team” (lovingly referred to as “the idiots” 😆 who hit the reds here in the NE and 9-pluses out there) and head out to Utah, Colorado, Cali, and maybe even the PNW.

The tail lights on that Lexus are the coolest understated taillights I've ever seen!!!! Whenever I had Toyota rock crawlers I intentionally did not modify the engine because the benefit was that I couldn't overwhelm the drivetrain I've even if I got bound up so I literally never broke anything in the drivetrain unless I did something completely dumb(which I was still capable of once in a while.)🥴

The Lexus LX450 is rated at 4.5L (212 HP) basically a Toyota Landcruiser. I think it did a good job for the trails it was on. Those are big ole' rocks!

OK, then it’s gonna be time for Kevin to do the “8-wheel-drive Stepchild” mod… that’s a “gravity switch power divider.” When you get over enthusiastic and flip it, the over-head additional 4 driving wheels kick in and Stepchild just keeps on keeping on until you flip it back! That’s when Ol’ George needs to hold your beer!! ;^)

horse power and torque are different horse power is for how much work can be done like generating electricity or how fast you can drive, torque is twisting force so how much force can be applied to a tire to make it spin, the Lexus isn't a horse power or a lack of torque problem more would help but lower gearing would solve the issue better

Definitely needs better gears. It could have a Briggs n Stratton with proper gears and run just fine.

It’s got t-case under-drive gears(3.3:1) and 5.13 axle gears. Axle gears were chosen with the intentions of going LS in the future. I haven’t had the power/torque issues at lower altitude, I think Montrose is 8k feet of altitude, which is ~24% power loss

@@gregsmith717 that makes sense. Just saying even with the 3.3:1 tcase. I believe that trans first gear is 2.7:1 and that with the 3.3 and 5:13s nets you a 47:1 final drive crawl ratio. With 42s that's faaaar too high. And even with more hp/torque that'll help slightly but only to a point. Throwing bigger motor will help push through a bit but will mainly build heat in the trans more than anything. I run a LS in my Tacoma with th400/atlas5.0:1 and 5:13 with 40s. Since my gears are proper I basically idle through everything. Power is never a factor. All in all I dig the Lexus I just feel gearing is more important than power. Especially with crawling.
