There's a book series called Villians by Serena Valentino and it's about various Disney vilians including their childhoods and their relationships with other characters. You'd love it! However Gothels book, Mother knows best, is the fifth one in the series. But it's great and *very* much worth the time.

Oh, I’d never seen that night mare scene until yesterday. I meant that the character details for Cassandra were so similar to Gothel that I immediately thought Gothel had found some convoluted way to bring herself back to life, and cut her hair off in order to “disguise” herself a la Team Rocket Style (the viewers can catch it from a mile away, but somehow it goes right over the protagonists heads). Mind you, this is back when they were just showing small clips, character art, etc. once they gave her a bit more backstory (and quite frankly, had her do something on screen, because that makes all the difference) it was definitely clear she was her own character, but I definitely think the similar designs are deliberate on Disney’s part.

Haven’t watched the video yet, but I’ve seen this theory going around since the first trailer, and currently, i don’t think Cass is mother gothel’s daughter, but I do think she is Eugene’s long lost sister. They foreshadow it a lot in the episode where Rapunzel locks them in the dungeon. The only thing I question about this siblings theory is I don’t know how they would find out. Eugene is 8 years older than Rapunzel, and Cass is between them. Since Eugene remembers his parents but not a sister, it is possible with their ages. After watching the video: convincing, but, you would have memories at age 4. Especially something as tragic as your mother abandoning you. *I’m not just trying to be a skeptic, but I really like this show and I’ve been thinking about these two theories for at least a year, and just wanted to let my opinion be known

Alternate idea for why Gothel abandoned Cassandra ~ Maybe when the flower first got taken she was unsure if she’d still be able to use the magic of the flower, meaning she’d die really quickly without the magic. She could have abandoned Cassandra in a place the guards would find Cassandra so the baby wouldn’t be completely alone (in the event her attempt to get the flower’s magic didn’t work and Gothel died) or left her behind in a panic trying to get back to the flower and abandoned her in desperation. Gothel leaving her daughter because taking care of two children would be a little too much work is a little weak for a character motivation. If it was a sacrifice for Gothel’s own survival though that would be a much more compelling story.

I see one problem that no one seems to notice though. I don’t think Mother Gothel went to the castle with the intent to STEAL Rapunzel. She takes a pair of scissors with her and cuts Rapunzel’s hair BEFORE she takes her. I think that she thought she could take a snippet of the hair and use THAT as a replacement for the flower, but when the hair turned brown and lost its power, she realized she HAD to take rapunzel. I think the reason why Rapunzel trusted and believed, and befriended, Cassandra it’s because Cassandra’s eyes resemble the only eyes that she had seen for the whole first 18 years of her life. She trusted those eyes at first, but took many years to realize Cassandra is not who she is (although that happened in a bad timing). Maybe Rapunzel felt a subtle hint of something, comfort?

I LOVE this theory. I have a bit of a stretched extension here, what if maybe this is why Rapunzel and Cassandra are so close now? They might have unconsciously had some connection, like Cassandra wants to protect her as her pseudo-adoptive big sister, and Rapunzel looks up to her in parallel, with neither actually having been together that long. This relationship would be so interesting for the story if it turns out to be true!

My theory: Mother gothal want to steal the flower for cassandra (and make cassadra magical like rapunzel) but the flower get taken by Rapunzel's parent so she take rapunzel and leave cassandra somewhere (srry for bad bad english)
