The road course race that I would alter, whether that means changing the configuration of it or taking it off the schedule, is the Indy RC. Personally I think they should alternate between the Oval and the RC configuration as intermediate racing is on the up and up.

I am a long time (most of my life) NASCAR fan. I was at Bristol when Dale Sr won his first Cup race but it was far from my first there and N. Wilkesboro. I've seen races at Talladaga and Daytona. That being said I love the road courses. They are really the roots of NASCAR. You really don't think moonshine runners just made left turns do you? A dirt road/paved road mix would be the ultimate of bringing the sport back to it's true roots.

I think that road course racing is a good thing for Nascar for a few reasons 1: The current cars do drive slightly like sportscars (according to McDowell) 2: It allows for more areas of North America to be reached as many international markets primarily have road courses 3: It can bring in international intrest even if there are series' in Europe and Canada 4: International drivers can now enter more races since they are used to road courses, we can even widen it to GT, Formula E, and Brazilian Stock Cars 5: If some tracks don't work, there are other options, tracks like Texas are highly disliked nowadays and if Nascar wants to keep racing in certain states/provinces, they can use road courses

The thing about NASCAR racers nowadays is that they are similar to the Trans Am road racers were back in the early 1970s; which primarily consisted of Ford Mustangs and Chevy Camaros . . . sounds familiar? Ppl had positive things to say about NASCAR at COTA. An aspect they may not have considered: That race at COTA was an SCCA Trans Am road-race in disguise; as there were Mustangs and Camaros in the mix.

To be honest before they added them to the schedule I never really was interested in the road course races even though Watkins Glen is my home track. I'm all for having more road course races, especially now with the current cars that are more suited for road courses than before. HOWEVER they must get rid of the stages when they are at road courses. You simply cannot have pre-determined cautions in road course racing, that's idiotic. The undercut vs. the overcut or 2 stops vs. 3 stops, etc... these are the things that make road course racing interesting and fun. I can live with the stages at ovals but not at road courses.

When it comes to road courses I'm old school. I've been watching and following NASCAR since the 90's and I would prefer to see a limit of only 3 or 4 road courses, at most, on the schedule. The major changes that NASCAR has implemented in recent years have only served to push me more and more to watching winged sprint car racing, where there are no road courses or playoffs. There was a time when sprint car racing always played second fiddle to NASCAR for me. Thanks to the changes implemented by NASCAR that is no longer the case.

I think good option would be making some sort of sub-series/championship, something like "nascar road course tour". Yes, it would cost money and other resources, but you would have a choice between classic nascar on the oval(which wouldn't be oversaturated with roa courses), or something new with road courses (and street circuits) only. If this would happen, the road course slots could be replaced with some fan favourite ovals.

No, perfect as I got into NASCAR for track diversity, these drivers race on the most diverse schedule in motorsport with short track (which I pray they fix the package for short tracks) intermediate tracks, road course, dirt and super speedway. I think COTA, road america, Sonoma, Roval, the Glen and Daytona RC is perfect as if we’re revisiting legendary tracks, minus we’ll make use of a new layout. This package has provided first time winners on the RC and seems to be providing great racing whether it’s three wide at sonoma or epic finish at COTA. Though I’m part of the people who believe texas should go, texas is awful racing in every package and use COTA to represent the texas NASCAR fanbase

Honestly, probably the worst road course on the schedule is the Indy RC. I know some people liked that race, but I didn't like it because I didn't see much passing most of the race besides the crazy last 20 laps and NASCAR's bs on not throwing the caution for not seeing debris when MTJ spun. I might give that track another chance but I'd rather see the Brickyard 400 on the oval again even though it hasn't been great for a while.

Another reason too is for the Canadian market, we only have short track ovals here but we do have active street courses. Why not buddy up on the Honda Indy Toronto weekend when Indycar comes down or hey even the Canadian GP weekend when F1 is here for a visit like what’s happening tomorrow. So I've been watching NASCAR seriously for 21 years. In 2001, the first true year I got into it, and before the Daytona 500 started, I put together a fantasy schedule for a fantasy series I wrote (including my middle school peers as drivers) and, given how it was influenced by NASCAR 2001 (which had more than 5 road courses), I initially included 8 road courses in a 32-race schedule: WG, Sonoma, and six fantasy courses including a season-finale street course at New York (which I scrapped because I was 12 and sensitive to the 9/11 attacks). But ever since then, I've remained convinced that a third or a quarter of the schedule is what road courses should occupy. Outside of that, the previous generations of cars made it hard to justify the bevy of 1.5-milers when Watkins Glen and even Sonoma at times slowly developed into must-watch races. If there's anything I'd add, it's that each road course needs to feel different from the other. COTA feels like its own thing. Indy RC is a great course (watch the 2020 Xfinity race and tell me I'm wrong), but Charlotte already owns the ROVAL card. Road America is awesome and it rolls through a forest, but Watkins Glen already does that (and has more memorable turns like the inner-loop and the penultimate Turn 10). A street course would be a wonderful-looking addition, but once the road courses become too samey, then you run into the same problem you created with the rise of the 1.5-mile tri-oval.

One of the reasons why I love stock cars is their ability to run on many types of circuits. They can run on road courses, short tracks, superspeedways and they still can put on a good show. I like the bump and run style racing and that has happened at every type of circuit. I think 5 is the sweet number of Road Courses. I especially love COTA and Road America. Indycar would be as equal to NASCAR when it comes to circuit variety if they added more ovals specifically what NASCAR fans would consider intermediate ovals (ex Kansas) to the schedule. Instead Texas (which is horrible for Indycar in my view), Indy, Iowa & Gateway are the only ovals they race on currently although there have been talks to get Homestead back on the Indycar schedule within the next few years. No, the schedule should be as diverse as possible and right now, road courses aren't even 1/4 of the schedule

I for one do enjoy seeing NASCAR having the current number of road courses on the schedule. Adding the Roval shook up the Chase a bit, to which I really think they should have two road courses in the Chase just to really mix it up. 6 of 36 races is not too bad. Most of the tracks visited were 1.5 mile tracks for years. The cookie cutters just really made the sport a bit less exciting with each season. With a few less of them and a few more road courses, things do feel slightly better balance wise.

for the last few decades Nascar has tried to turn itself into F-1 , this is American racing not Europian racing , give us back our oval tracks but make them varied in size and layout .

Why can't we have both? I grew up around the Saturday night short track, worked on stock cars all my life. We'd go to Watkins Glen every year for NASCAR. I got into SCCA autocross because it was what I could afford to do with my daily. I've come to appreciate circle tracking and road course/sports car racing. I appreciate NASCAR mixing it up, I feel it attracts fans of both to our sport, and other motorsport.

As someone who started watching during stage racing, and adore stage racing I definitely think that's what's hindering road courses. In racing games strategy on fuel and tires along with testing your skill on how deep you want to send it into a corner, that's what makes road courses awesome. So I say take the stages out of road course....I was going to share my "just don't throw a yellow" plan but then I realized we might still get the same problems as we have now

They totally brought into many at a time. Add to that they had to race the Daytona infield because of California regulations last year. Go ahead and take away some of the cookie cutter tracks but don't make them all road courses

When intermediate racing was bad (especially last year), more road courses were a clear improvement. Now that intermediate racing is way better, it kinda sucks that we're going to the Indy RC and Charlotte Roval instead of their oval layouts.

For almost 30 years nascar had basically one road course on the schedule in their entire season. Then they added a second road course that would stick around, and that lasted for almost 30 years as well. in the last 4 years we've added 4 different road course races to the schedule, and have even raced at a 5th different road course as a replacement for when another road course wouldn't let us in due to outside circumstances. I feel like having this many road courses in stock car racing is somewhat absurd.

I think 6-7 is the right number, and it was done to quickly. I think the Glen and Sonoma were 2 good to keep, the roval is such a unique event that it fits the schedule well, and road america and COTA are great tracks with roots and ties to both American and international racing. The only change I make is move the Indy RC back to the oval, and maybe rotate in the street race for say the texas playoff race (the street circuit shouldn’t be in the playoffs but take that texas date and give it to the street circuit

Absolutely not. Road courses are must see TV. They're always my favorite races to see. Not sure how they are in person though. Get rid of the cautions at the end of stages though at road courses.

The increase in road courses was nice with the gen6 car, as it meant we didn’t have to suffer through as many 550hp 1.5 milers. With the NextGen, the 1.5 milers have produced great racing (outside of Texas), so I don’t want to lose any more of them. Also, I’d rather have a few more short track races than road courses. Honestly, I’d rather get rid of Sonoma and just stick with Watkins Glen, COTA, Road America, and the Charlotte Roval, while also giving Charlotte 2 oval dates

I think this is perfect amount, maybe take off 1 or 2 in favor of short tracks like you said. I've always liked road courses, but I don't understand the street course hype. They just about always suck in open wheel racing. People want close, hard racing where you can pass, and street courses don't do that. And we saw how bad the Pro Invitational race was, nothing happened except lap 1 And Johnson actually didn't need the win there to advance, he just wanted to break the longest winless streak of his career (that continued 😭) iirc and first full-time season without a win

I think they have the perfect number now. Look how many mile-and-a-half races that the cup series used to have…….. I never used to like road courses, but once they added the Roval, my views on them totally changed.

I am a rare case of an older Nascar fan (50 years old) who is embracing many of the new changes to the sport. I like the playoffs, I even like stage racing, and I'm loving more than 2 road courses a year. I'm not advocating for a ton of them, but I would like to see the cup series at other courses. Don't do the same 6 or 7 every year to open opportunities for others like Laguna Seca or Sebring to host a NASCAR weekend. I would love to see what happens when you get four or five cup cars close enough to throw a blanket over headed into Laguna Seca's infamous corkscrew, or see who has the nerve to brake later headed into one of Sebring's hairpins at the end of a long straightaway. Is Road Atlanta still in operation?

i think they need to have a set number of slots for them, 3 of them guaranteed for Sonoma, The Glen and The Roval, and then rotate the rest every year depending on how many slots you want to alot , you get the staples and then showcase other road courses around the country

They could get rid of a few, but I really enjoy some of the road courses. And I have gotten several of my friends into watching NASCAR by showing them the road courses. They assumed NASCAR was only ovals. I never could have got them into the sport by showing them a short oval track.

NASCAR should go for a 50/50 split between road courses and ovals. But they need to stop the stage racing AT LEAST for road courses.
