Gizzy has been exemplary in the Aussie super cars. He and Scott Mclaughlin were having great battles but Scott went to Indycar a couple of seasons ago and Gizzy seemed a bit bored since. Street races are his forte so not a big surprise that he was dominant. If he does go to NASCAR then hopefully the pack catch up with him on the street circuits as they will likely own him on the ovals initially.

@@ceelothatmane9421 This isn't normal NASCAR, it's typically oval racing. Different set of challenges to drive in, but to viewers, it looks like it's just racing in circles. However, when you know the Gs being pulled, how much the draft plays and such, oval racing is actually fun to watch. It's that chase and the slow creep behind bumpers, bit by bit. In terms of action, street circuits hold more of that for general viewers, which I guess is why NASCAR is trying it out here. I'm thinking it paid off as it looked like everyone enjoyed it.

I'm pretty sure the Erebus team wouldn't agree that the new cars are bad, lol. They seem to be the only team who has got a handle on Gen3 so far. And young Broc Feeney ("Mr Sunday" as they're calling him now) seems happy enough. I don't think the new cars are "bad" per se, just that they are REALLY different from the previous cars and it's taking a little while for everyone to understand them. Given how good SVG is as adapting to different cars I was expecting him to kill it this year but for some reason he's not happy. It's a weird one. With 888 boss Whincup now talking about letting SVG out of his contract at the end of the year I wonder if there's some friction within the team or something. Maybe they want him gone. I dunno.

I didnt even know SVG was doing a nascar race until I saw the headline that he'd won. Then I read the article and it said "street circuit, in the wet". I dont think there could have been a more favourable condition to him. That is literally his forte. Seeing him school the field at their own game was glorious. SVG is an absolute legend, give him anything with 4 wheels and a steering wheel and he'll put it at the front of the field no questions asked.

Trackhouse is really coming into its own now. In just two seasons with two full time drivers, they’ve grown into making Ross a championship contender, making Daniel a race winner, granting Kimi Raikkonen a career revival, and now making Shane van Gisbergen a race winner in his debut! I’m really impressed! Hopefully, Shane can make a full time debut someday. He’d be great here, if he keeps this performance up in any other future starts he makes.

Wow, I liked F! racing and admired Nascar, but NOW I am hooked! I moved out of Chicago in 2020, but I still love the highlights, sights and all of the great things you can do in Chicago. Lake Shore Drive is awesome, and to have this Nascar event there as a City event was great. I wonder how many people made it down from Wisconsin, and especially Indiana? We had Australian NASCAR race around Surfers Paradise for Indycar. There were 29 3,300lb cars in the 1993 race

How can it be an upset? The guy was fast in practice, qualifying, and then the race. He's no pushover.

Once qualifying ended and people took notice of how good he really was, his stock shot up. Entering the race he was tie with Martin Truex with the third highest chance to win at +1600, prior to qualifying he was +4000.

The main feeder series for NASCAR Cup drivers was USAC Sprints for the longest time, maybe the teams will start recruiting drivers from down under.

Australian Supercars is not a feeder series for NASCAR. I think Shane just proved that. However, they could make good road course ringers for NASCAR

It's obvious he was going to do well, his weekly job is driving cars very similar to this on tracks very similar to this. Its nascar's first street race, so the drivers are adapting

I'm a big SVG fan, I've never watched a full NASCAR race before, but I watched this entire race more than twice. I watched the onboard camera of Giz, I was impressed with Kyle Larson. SVG passed him and then Larson followed in behind passing everyone until he got to P4...I'll be watching more in the future, Larson is now the man I'm following on NASCAR!!

Larson and SVG are greats of their respective series running for the best teams in the series (Larson for Hendrick, SVG for Triple Eight). Nothing short of great can come out of that

SVG is a beast. While on many level's it's astonishing that he just showed up and won a cup event, I think NASCAR fans need to get familiar with V8 Supercars. He's been throwing big, heavy, high horsepower V8's with sequential shifters around for a bit now. Is a Supercar just like a modern cup car? No, but they are similar in a lot of key ways. They also race on a lot of street circuits. Pushing a car like this around a street circuit is SVG's bread and butter. I'm not shocked at all he had this much pace, though winning the race is definitely shocking.

Van Ginsberg is a Bathurst 1000 legend. This Chicago race is a mere afternoon stroll for him. The American car racers are just hopelessly inept and never/rarely win at Bathurst. This Chicago race is something like we have in Oz/New Zealand, called Supercars or Touring Car. Complex tracks with plenty of spectacle and opportunities for surprise.
