Philip Rivers had the better individual accomplishments. He threw for more touchdowns, accrued more yards, finished higher in passer rating, etc. If you're going by stats alone then yeah, Philip Rivers deserves to be in there. There's definitely guys who made it into the Hall of Fame with less. But Eli Manning accomplished two things Rivers didn't: Eli Manning won a superbowl (twice) and he beat Tom Brady. Philip Rivers never did win a game against Tom Brady. Brady always proved to be his Kryptonite and yet Eli Manning, the worse QB on paper, always seemed to match up well against Brady. The only QB who beat Brady more reliably than Eli Manning was Nick Foles, but that is a story for another day. These two shortcomings loom over Philip Rivers' bid into the Hall of Fame.

We got washed up reggie bush and Adrian Peterson. And they were probably stafford's best two besides jhavid best that he lost to concussions. He was promising but no telling if he was good enough to take them anywhere meaningful. Then look at the failures of our front office. Stafford had to deal with some of the shittiest draft picks ever.

I think that’s a good way of looking at it. There are players who come and go, but only a few players make an impact. I feel like Rivers did that. He made a lasting impact, left a lot of goodwill behind, and it’ll be weird not seeing him on an NFL field anymore

He's barely even in the Top 10 of his contemporaries (Peyton, Brady, Russell Wilson, Rodgers, Brees, Stafford, Big Ben, Eli...), and you don't put the "very good" caliber players in the HOF. Eli has him in terms of team success with the superbowl wins, but that is a team award. rivers shits on eli in terms of qb talent and performance. really depends on what the hall puts ahead - team success or personal success. I think at any other position it would be a no brainer, but with qb i dont know. to put someone who threw 60 less tds and 40 more ints in before would seem a little disrespectful. Also note that eli was .500 as a qb, while rivers was 28 games over .500

I'm not even sure what Rivers record is but it's not anything worth mentioning. Eli had a mediocre regular season but had two historical Post season runs. Not to mention he stopped a team from going 17-0. So out of those three borderline QBs Eli deserves it the most.

QBs tend to get in, Receivers get shafted. Rivers was the new Marino in many respects and a top 10 NFL career passing leader--hard not to make him first ballot. Rivers on NYG? Rivers on Pitt S? Rivers on any team that does not gut its roster every 4 years? He was ACC all-time pass leader at graduation and it was not for passing every down at NC State where they ran the ball often. Just imagine if he could actually run.

Yes . He is a Hall Of Famer . Had the Kicker not missed a crucial FG , and a couple of dropped passes , they may have beat Buffalo . Rivers had a pretty good game . It wasn't his fault .. The Colts are improving . I was kind of surprised that he isn't coming back next year . He's definitely a Hall of Famer . Best to him and his family in his retirement .

There's really never gonna be another QB like Phillip Rivers. From this dude's personality, his trash talk, all the way down to his throwing motion. Very unique player in NFL history, also arguably the best QB to not even make it to the Super Bowl. He made more pro bowls than both Big Ben and Eli as well. 2013 CPOY is also very notable. It sucks, I was really hoping he'd make at least ONE Super Bowl run with the Colts. Either way, it's at least cool he went out on a high note, going 11-5 and to the playoffs. Much better than if he retired after his 5-11 2019 Chargers season.
