It's important to keep gearing in mind as well. Good power to weight ratio with bad gearing will still perform badly.

You started off with power to weight ratio and went to how easy the bikes wheelie😅😂😂😂
@xxsuhhxx1475Күн бұрын
Well title says "does power to weight ratio matter?"
@OnlyTheReal_RPMКүн бұрын
@@xxsuhhxx1475 yeah It did, but it more matters in a sense of how fast the bikes move a little bit that has to do with how they wheelie never said, I disagree!!!😇

Shorter wheel base too helps.
@carnonPL2 күн бұрын
also about lifting the front wheel up, ut is also important to think about the location of center of mass, because Ducatti is much lighter you are a bigger part of mass and so the centre of mass is much higher
@tomwxrd27812 күн бұрын
also the sprocket set up and the gear ratios
@carnonPL2 күн бұрын
@@tomwxrd2781 yup, also that, but that doesn't have to be changed with enough torque produced by the engine sooo idk
@xilvendicatorex189421 сағат бұрын
Torque, gearing, wheel base, center of mass also make difference in wheeling, power/weight is more relevant in acceleration

Its important to understand that hp and torque are not the same fucking thing
@hornhunter72 күн бұрын
Torque is a major factor in play. When you talking about HP numbers you only talk one aspect about the power. The BMW and pretty much most I4 engines make almost nothing at the low end. It only produces about 20-30 Ib-ft of torque at idle, and only kicks in at about 9,000 RPM which is slightly lower than your Ducati's rev limiter. where as the Ducati has a very linear power band, and is tuned for low end torque, to mid range torque. Thats why it's easier to bring up the front wheel. HP is used for top speed, and torque is for getting to it in a hurry. Power to weight ratio does matter and is the biggest thing, but it also depends on the power band too. I4 engines while can be tuned and be made to use mid range power, pretty much any supersport bike will be tuned for the high end high reving power.

The entire premise of the question is flawed/misleading. It’s like asking on a pop quiz how much does peanut better and jelly ratio matter and then coming out of left field to clarify you’re talking about making smoothies not sandwiches, therefore everyone fails 😂 your question needs to be reframed to “how much does power to weight ratio impact the ability to have fun on a bike (or to power wheelie, in this example) Asking just “how much does power to weight ratio matter for motorcycles” w/o clarifying you’re asking about it in a singular context is illegal and I demand you give us all A+’s as a result. For the entire semester.

You are kinda Right, you forgot sometzing really important, the angle that each motorcycle balances when you hit the gas… cause of way much more drive of the rear axel of the Ducati this bike curves in a way that gives you the ability to wheelie it easier and trust my you don’t want your bmw to have so soft suspension cause if you change it I think in the first 4 times that you will hit the gas you will have an accident and I don’t think you want that

Wheel base, center of gravity and torque to weight is a lot more important to wheelies then horsepower to weight

Dumbest explanation ever…thats single cylinder has more bottom end torque and weight is distributed completely differentl than a super bike.this dude is super deleulu
@MarissaTheMuse2 күн бұрын
Power to weight is basically all that matters, at least in the context of time slips. You can have 1000hp and it will be meaningless if your bike has the weight of a star collapsing in on itself & expanding in mass 5-fold 5,000 times per minute Likewise you can have a power figure that most people would laugh at, but on a super light bike or a car like a little eg hatch or whatever example you like, it will destroy heavier and more powerful vehicles that most people would assume would easily win. If people appreciated/valued the importance of power:weight ratio more and peak hp/torque figures LESS, the automotive market would be in a much better place and people would finally notice that for the most part although yes their bmw 3 series or 5 series or whatever is gaining hp & torque in impressive fashion over the years…the weight is going up so much that the actual performance levels are usually minimal, and sometimes even regressions. Improved transmissions and gearing, improved traction control, AWD, launch control, and better tires are often where you’ll find 80%+ of the actual improvement between generations of a given vehicle, and the power increase is just necessary to keep it at similarly capable (aka at a similar power to weight ratio)
